As the topic title says - what music do you listen to while programming/developing things?
Seems like there are a lot of programmers/webdevelopers/etc. on here Smiley

I usually listen to music from Jamendo, specifically instrumental music. Especially Roger Subirana Mata, zero-project, and Filthy Kicks are some favorites I often have playing when working on things.
I also have the Trine (from the Humble Bundle) soundtrack playing now and then, but most of my music comes from Jamendo.

I find it nice to code listening to soundtracks from strategy games, such as StarCraft or C&C series. Also, I've had a coding night with this looped: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-ecvLRxb3MU
It was... Fun.
But usually I just put all the music I have on my PC in my player and set it to random.

Most music will distract me if I listen to it while trying to program, so I usually go for things without vocals. Just lately, I've been listening to NIN's Ghosts I-IV and Maserati's Inventions for the New Season a lot. They seem to be a good mix of energy and ambience.

Strangely, listening to music has an opposite effect for me. I usually focus too much on programming when listening to music, so much that many hours will pass and I will not realise it. It was a good thing when I had an 8-5 job.

Can't program without some Hilary Duff! Mostly I listen to rock or metal while programming though. Erm, not "screamy" metal, more like At Vance, HammerFall, Kamelot, or even Within Temptation.
Oh, and Mandy Moore - Only Hope, one of my favorites. Soft piano helps :-)

Reminds me that Edguy and Lordi are great programming band when you want to push out a lot of code (quality may vary Tongue)

Ah yeah, Edguy has some nice songs. Never heard of Lordi though, guess I'll look into that.

Maserati very much reminds me of the music in the Death Note series.

That's how it works for me, but only with the right kind of music.

Maserati very much reminds me of the music in the Death Note series.

I remember one of the Death Note OPs would always make me laugh. I only watched part of the series. Bet you can guess where I stopped Wink

I usually put 'Death Cube K - Maggot Dream' on repeat for like 12 hours.

or 'John Frusciante - Before The Beginning'

to many words in the music and I get distracted.

Also, if I stick to just a few songs I really like and put them on repeat I dont jam out too much

No music here, I prefer TV on in the background.  Usually BBC news 24 or sky news, although getting a bit bored with it at the moment with all the talk about Rupert Murdoch here in England currently.

The "Ghosts" albums are great...very minimal, I purchased the CD set on release directly from the NIN site.  Once you have listened to all of them a few times listen to the "Social Network Soundtrack" you will hear so much that was taken directly from Ghosts.

Rage, SOAD, Nightwish.. the harder the better. "redrum radio" on live365.com is what I tend to go to, or a local radio station site for something a bit lighter, sonic1029.com. The faster the music goes... the faster I type. And louder, but the music is usually too loud to hear that.

VPS, shared, dedicated hosting at: electronstorm.ca. No bitcoin payment for that yet, but bitcoins possible for general IT, and mining/GPGPU rigs. PM for details.

Trance, but it has to have no lyrics.

Nothing annoys me more than hearing some beautiful tune get absolutely ruined by some cheesy gay lyrics about stay by my side sweet darling I miss you oh oh oh. It's amazing how many trance producers turn 5 star instrumentals into 1 star pop bullshit.
