Hi All, how often do you check on your rigs?  I notice that I get anxiety when I check them -- as if I'm going to find some rigs down.  This has happened a couple of times.

Other times, it has been smooth sailing.

I find myself not wanting to check some times fearing I might see some bad news.

I'm wondering if anyone has a strategy for checking their rigs without it stressing you out.

The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

You could set them up to email/SMS you when one goes down or the hashrate drops below a pre-determined level. That way you can quickly take action.

I don't know why you would be anxious about checking them, I would want to keep them going all the time. Does changing a burnt out light-bulb cause you anxiety too?

I'm checking one in particular because of instability, but generally speaking I use email alerts to not be worried to constantly check, especially when I'll fix the stability issue.

I find myself checking less and less. At the begging I would check every few hours which prolonged to once a day. Nowadays I usually check once a week to be sure everything is working.

I have a folder in browser toolbars called 'morning'. There I have list of urls which I check every morning with the coffee. Of course pools are there. So I check my rigs once a day, but I have a tool to restart them if some got stuck.

I use mail notification for inactive workers, rarely check their operations via Teamview, and about each 1 month I come to check the system, and do cleaning.

yeah, 5 months ago when i started i checked  every hour, now once a day if that. Flypool sends me an e-mail, if something stops working, so no need to worry.
Configure bios to start by itself and taskmanager to start mining once windows boots and just forget about it.

I also find myself checking it lesser these days..
But i do have the apps on my phone also simplemining os to keep my eyes on everything.
When i first started i did check often, a few times a day. These days i would check in the morning and before i sleep. Sometimes a few days now. I dont freak out anymore when i see a rig is down. Or has went down and started back up, lol i think after awhile you just get immune to worry too much. Sometimes it would take me a few days to stop by and turn on the rigs that are off. Haha maybe im just slacking these days.
But i think for everyone whos been in this game for awhile, dont go flying to your mining facility just turn on a few rigs anymore.

Depends on the rigs. The AMD rigs mining XMR on Nanopool, I don't check much. Nanopool sends emails if there are issues, and so does the Claymore Manager so I just let'em chug.

My nVidia rig I need to babysit more. You just never know when the damn ccminer might crash out of the blue. Also constantly having to look for the next shitcoin to rape is more time consuming. So yeah. Several times a day.

If you are going to stick with any one coin for mining, probable I would monitor couple of times a day to make sure everything is working fine. Normally I switch to different coins based on the Difficulty levels, sometimes I end up in monitoring / switching 20 times a day.

However you can also setup email alerts when the rig is not running property.

Once a day when I'm usually online. In my bookmark I have a link to Ethermine so I can easily look at the status of my address. The same bookmark/link I have on my phone. Frankly, yesterday was the first time that has happened that I noticed that my RIG stopped and that he didn't work for 2 hours. I just restarted it via remote control and the problem was resolved.

I check once a week i think, only track coin profit changes, rigs will be automatically notified if something wrong, so no need to check that.

Not much really. Maybe once or twice a week.
At the beginning (which is about 3 or 4 months ago) I was so excited but anxious that something would fail, so I checked every two hours or so.

The mining pool sends an email if the rig goes down so that's enough. Plus I just casually put my hand near a card and feel its heat which means it's mining Cheesy

It's only in the summer when it gets too hot that I login to increase the fan speed of one specific card that I know is not good with cooling. Having the bookmark of the mining pool page on your phone is also a good option if you just wanna see how stable your rig is.

When I started I was just sitting next to my rig and looking hashrate for sometime Smiley You can set up email to inform you when your worker is not working, but I do not do that also. I just check my rig once a day via teamviewer and cleaning it once a month

I'm using Windows. Control their rigs using team viewer 1-2 times a day. Reboots I have but due to the fact that there is a difference between day and night temperature I have to control the fan speed of the GPU. Night I reduce their speed to reduce wear. I have a few times a year there are cases of failure of the HSE who require mechanical of the reboot. For this is fixtures but I don't think profitable to buy them. They will not pay for.

I'm glad to see so many other people used to check their rigs alot early on, but then skip it when they get more experience.  I guess for beginners we worry more, but over time it will get better.

I notice someone say they use Flypool for notifications when workers stop hashing.  Do all pools offer this?  I use SimpleMining OS and Dwarfpool is the default.  Do they have the notification feature?  Or is something like Flypool recommended?

I generally never check them unless I get an email saying a rig is down. That's when the stress happens and I want to drop everything I am doing to go check. Unfortunately I did get that email today, and cannot wait to get home to check!!

I check mine once a day but that is a normal routine check and really isn't needed. My rigs powered up by MSI or GIGABYTE motherboards are running with latest Legacy Nicehash (not the new 2.xx.xx version) from months without restarting or stopping. They keep going without problems. Maybe because I have all processors of the rigs not Celerons or Dual Cores although they work, have min core i3 and up to i5 in each of the rigs I control (not all are mine).

I used to log every day using teamviewer to check for temps.

But I'm lazy, so I coded my own custom tool in order to monitor my rigs, check if they are online, show hashrates, show 24h profits per rig, temps, fans, send custom alerts ...
Since it's my tool, everything related to rigs is hardcoded (rig ip addresses, miners for each rig, alerts to send for each rig)
I have a dedicated screen in my office which displays 24/24 a single web page :

My wife checks her rigs 3x per day (once in person and twice via TeamViewer) and records all statistics, hashrate, algorithm, and power consumption (via metered pdu or wall meters). We keep all of this information every single day, partly for our own records, but mostly for tax purposes. If you guys aren't keeping records you're going to have a hell of a time when the IRS decides to audit you.  I guarantee that they are keeping an extra close eye on anyone reporting mining income and you need to you all of your expenses accounted for in detail or you're gonna get boned up the ass.

*USA taxes, other countries may be more or less easy to deal with.*

I just monitor them at the pool whenever I have the chance or online, I am looking primarily at their hash rate, when it goes offline it notifies me thru email, when somethings is not right like drop hashrate it is visually detected at the pool then I can go remote them for checking.

Periodically throughout the day...If I am on my phone, ill check. I used to check all the time, but now 3-4 times per day ill check the ethOS panel for downed GPUs. Sometimes less if I am busy.

If i Have a rig that i am troubleshooting, that is a different story.

I check up on my 20+ rigs about twice a day, less if I'm busy with other things.  My goal is to eventually automate everything so that I only need to service them for upgrades or hardware failures since they are located at a warehouse.

One of them went down yesterday and came back up by itself during one of its scheduled reboots.  For more stubborn issues, I can VPN into one of my UPS devices, cut power to a PC and then wake-on-LAN/wake-on-PWR.  I can't do this with all of them right now, but it's getting there.

Checking RIG in my opinion is a necessity because of the performance and how the RIG situation will affect the income we will get. If you are someone who has a job in a company I think installing remote access to RIG you have is the best way, you can monitor any time RIG you have from the office where you work. I am sure it will curate the anxiety you have. remote access is not able to show you the hardware you have, but you can always monitor how your RIG works and also whether or not running the mining process that you do. but if you are a person who does not have other work I think spend some time and keep optimizing the supporting components is the best thing, you can add some hardware and also always maintenance RIG you have, it can always clean and also make sure the hardware can work well .

most of the rigs are using smos.

I check  them  in the morning.

I check them before I go to bed.

linux  is so stable  61 days 0 restarts

I'm seriously considering switching from plain Ubuntu to SMOS, but first I'll make decent wooden frames for my 1060 rigs

When I first setup a machine, I check it every day.
Once things are working, I barely ever check it.

One day, the only way I knew a machine wasn't running was because the room wasn't really warm Smiley
Since then, I set up pools to send me email if mining stops.

It was pretty easy to setup email notification on ethermine.org.  It says the feature is "beta", but it seems to work.
Since I've enabled that, my rigs have only gone down when I've stopped them on purpose, so it's hard to know if it's working perfectly.

nanopool supports email notifications if a worker goes offline. I find it to be one of the best ways to see if a machine goes offline.

Also i bought a couple of TP-Link smart plugs and i can power cycle machines remotely with an app on my phone. Saves driving to reset hung up machines etc if you don't have them close by.

Did you made the notification settings from the  targeted network pool's dashboard you are using? If I am right this is really a good move who are all spending more time in travelling and official works.
Since, doing one rig GPU mining on ethereum. I use to check the morning and time I am going to bed. Threshold push the payment to my wallet once it cross it.`

If you mine on nanopool you automatically get email alerts whenever your rig goes down. Albeit it's not real-time as to the exact time when your rig goes down but you can expect the email alert to arrive within 30 minutes from when your rig stops mining.

As to me, i check my rig status online 3 times a day. When i get to the office. During lunch. Before going home.

I check my rigs a few times a day. In the morning when I get up, lunch time and usually before I go to bed. I also mine on a pool that will send me an email when my workers stop working.  Grin

Sometimes my rigs will run for a month straight without any issues whatsoever -- and sometimes they will crash three times a day (usually right around the time Windows pushes updates).

Not sure why you are so anxious. But I hear they have medication for that.  Cool

I don't understand what stress you are experiencing? If the towers are working, they bring you income and that should please you. If you have earned more or less all the money you earn never. I checked their rigs just to make sure that they are digging. This does not affect my mood.

I'm currently using SimpleMiner so that I can manage my rigs when I'm away. Also, like what other people suggest, look for an email or sms service that can notify you once a rig is slowing down or being shut.

In my case, I do have a day job and I connect my office computer to my miner thru RDP or TeamViewer (my cousin help me out with this). I also do get anxious from time to time but you'll get use to it once you followed my suggestion.

I check all of mine out fairly often, and shut them off for a thorough dusting off about every 2-3 months, or whenever I see a large buildup of dust.

almost pools can provide API,  so that you can write a python script to monitor your miners. That's so easy .

almost pools can provide API,  so that you can write a python script to monitor your miners. That's so easy .

The monitor application will give how much hash rate been used, How many blocks is been mined yet and number of cards or ASIC you connect to mine with the network pool. This query is about how often you check your rig directly.
If you need to reset the miner means you cannot do that by moniter right. Manual reset would be good to manage the heating issue in your miner rig.

We have scripts setup to do that.  We still run about 40 rigs out of the old server room that we no longer need.  It is a mile from the main office, but we have a lot of scripted checks and rechecks, plus one server that acts as a network access point of sorts that we can SSH into them from anywhere.  But, generally once per week now that they are configured perfectly.  In the beginning, once a day.

several time per day I have to do it!
I have about 3 rigs to watch out!
and to my expertise all is working smooth and steady if temperature in the room is about 20-23C and all is good with a power level ( no spikes )
then it is working rock solid.

Claymore's monitoring tool works good for me. When i rig stops playing, some loud music starts playing upstairs. This happened this morning. The wife was getting the kid ready for school and it started blaring. She then woke me up, and i resolved the issue. Issue resolved! Only 10 mins of down time. Back to bed for more zzzz.

Once or twice a day. I do have some restarts and I'm not sure what's causing it. Maybe Windows update.
But I have my miner on startup as well as overclock in software. So if it restarts, it's all back up again usually at full speed without me actually having to do anything.

At the beginning I didn't do anything else but watch mining Smiley With time got bored cause this isn't best activity. After all I treat it as a pasive income. Of course email/sms allerts are usufull. But I tend to look at it depending how profitable mining currently is. The more profitability the more often I check it and try to keep everything running. But when rig is set up properly it runs smoothly for months.

My miners are way too far from where I am. Haven't checked them for 2 months but they work good. I know 2 months is too much but if you set up everything well then there is no need to check it often.

with your good skills you will able to set it up properly and you dont need to monitor it in a daily basis i like they way you treat mining as its just another
way of source of profits not to lean on it for a daily expense, its everything for future gain.

If I was better at programming, I would make something like a simple web dashboard which shows things like temps, fan speeds and hash rates.  Some type of notification if the miner stops reporting or if the hash rate drops would be nice.  My miner runs Linux, so it has to run on that.  Python would probably be a good choice.  I suck at python programming though.

Anybody what to try this?

If I was better at programming, I would make something like a simple web dashboard which shows things like temps, fan speeds and hash rates.  Some type of notification if the miner stops reporting or if the hash rate drops would be nice.  My miner runs Linux, so it has to run on that.  Python would probably be a good choice.  I suck at python programming though.

Anybody what to try this?

You can use Claymore's software.

If you configure your rigs without maxed out overclocking and good cooling then you will have no problems running 24/7 smoothly without problems.
But if you squeeze all the juices from your cards and not set additional cooling then you need to monitor your rigs once a day.

Often, there are certain malfunctions, I have to regularly look and collect data. If there is no problem then I check statistics in pool website

I check about 3 times a day. When i wake up and my afternoon crypto news and prices.. once again before bed.  Had to run out a few times to go and restart the damn rigs because they fall off. Not alot, but once in awhile. Or the internet connection falls off. A quick modem reset does the trick. I still need to learn some new solutions so it can be more remote access and automated..

I think think this remote resetter may be good for fully remote managing:
