The Bitcoin network protocol was designed to be extremely flexible. It can be used to create timed transactions, escrow transactions, multi-signature transactions, etc. The current features of the client only hint at what will be possible in the future.

While I'd like to believe that this is at least a legitimate effort to sell a product, there are several factors that have not (yet) been addressed by HashTech:

1) Requests for escrow on deposit
2) A lack of Avalon chip order proof
3) Haste and lack of attention to detail in creation of the company

After we get this out of the way, then we'll want to see things like pictures of the design, prototypes, and the facility. There may be more of course, but until these points are addressed, the average member of these forums will continue to be skeptical.

I also don't think this is worth the risk because there is nothing special. There are many others assembling these chips.

Hi all,

Apologies for not replying sooner, I didn't see the replies until I got into the office.

Let me clarify a few queries made quickly. The way the website and system has been set up is that once an order is placed it will be held for a period of 24 hours on the system until such time that we have marked the order as paid. After the 24 hour period has elapsed the order is then released and then added back to the list of available orders. Nothing sinister I can assure you. There does however seem to be a problem with out ticket count. As such orders will be closed until we have resolved the issue.

20 units have been paid for.

The following order numbers have had their deposits paid:

1, 4, 7, 11, 14, 15, 16, 18, 22, 25, 28.

Apologies for the poor authentication mail. This is unacceptable and will be resolved immediately. I'm ashamed to admit that I did not pick it up earlier.

As for escrow we feel that that having it for the remaining full price is only fair. The deposit allows us to make sure the order is valid and legitimate. Unfortunately we have had some rather disgusting orders as well as spam attacks.

As for the chip payments, I am not in possession of these as I didn't make the purchase. I am hoping to receive that information within the next 2 days.

We are not forcing anyone to order from us. We have simply tried to set it up as such that it limits the amount of risk a buyer has to take. You are more than welcome to wait us to deliver before ordering. This would be a sensible option. We do not require the funds. But again before crying scam at least give us the chance to prove otherwise.

I'll be the first to order once people receive these and you make a bfl version.

I appreciate you taking the time to address each of the points I had raised. I guess now we just have to sit tight and be a little patient as we wait for updates and more details.

Escrow with a reputable forum member would give you the same warranties and give us some. Refusing to do so is a big scam alert.

Currently your offer is indistinguishable from a scam attempt with a cheap website (probably far less than $500 including the time spent setting things up) to make 50BTC ~ $5000.

There are lots of scammers around able to pull this and not many professionals able to make the product you advertise...

P2pool tuning guide
Trade BTC for €/$ at bitcoin.de (referral), it's cheaper and faster (acts as escrow and lets the buyers do bank transfers).

Instead of merely limiting buyers' risk ($100 USD+ is still quite a risk), why not eliminate it?

Either escrow the deposit, or don't require one.  If you ever actually ship product you will have customers banging down your doors to buy your 50 units so the deposit is completely unnecessary if this is not a scam.

"As for the chip payments, I am not in possession of these as I didn't make the purchase. I am hoping to receive that information within the next 2 days. "

If they can demonstrate early payment of bulk Avalon chip orders including transaction #'s etc. I might be feeling it a little more than right now, but escrow avoidance is always suspicious...

When will you deliver?

I still have not received an answer to my question.

From the first post:

Please note that this is done on a PRE-ORDER basis. Customers can expect delivery mid August should there be no delays beyond our control. PCB's and final preparations have already begun and we will take delivery in roughly 2 weeks. That way we have everything ready.

That being said, we're coming up on the "within 2 days" window. Let's see if HashTech can provide proof of those chips.

As for the chip payments, I am not in possession of these as I didn't make the purchase. I am hoping to receive that information within the next 2 days.

Tick tock. Tick tock.

Well, we're technically already past the two day thing. I'm assuming this thread isn't a very high priority for HashTech. There hasn't been too much correspondence. Maybe they just forgot about us. Though there hasn't been an update on the site either, though.

Hi all,

We will be refunding all those that have made deposits and be accepting deposits through Escrow. I will contact JohnK within the next few days to organize this. Please be patient with us as we have had a few hiccups with regards to our new offices and staff so I do apologize in advance if I seem to not give this thread priority. This issue will be resolved in the next few days.

Thank you.

I hope you have a lovely weekend.

Yes, I would also like to hold my place in queue if at all possible.
