Same thing happened in the US over 500 years ago.

We were doing all sorts of bartering.  Cotton. Tobacco.  Wheat.
And some of the union soldiers started getting friendly with the Aztecs.
The Aztecs wanted cotton in the worst way and the soldiers wanted their gold, so they could buy the affection of special ladies.

So, the union soldiers started hammering cotton into massive flat sheets and sneaking across the Nile river and trading their sheets of cotton for Aztec gold.
Eventually, the cotton sheets became the money you have in your wallet today.

Every currency has a dark past.

Oh I guess we should all ignore the fact that is has been proven to be a great store of value.

It's not been proven to be a great store of value - the price volatility has seen to that.

If this post was useful, interesting or entertaining, then you've misunderstood.

Silk road was (and still is) a fascinating technical proof of concept.  Silk road, whatever you think of it, has proven clearly that bitcoin is a capable transactional device.  Whatever you think of the moral judgments that are embodied by drug laws, buying a kilo of heroin on silk road proved that bitcoin could just as easily be used to buy a pound of flour, a school textbook or a car.  That's what really matters.

From there, if you're still stuck on how bitcoin is being used to buy drugs, you may as well be talking about the USD because you've clearly missed the forest in favour of the tree you didn't like the look of.

Bitcoin is also good for gambling!  It needs to be useful for something or it wont have value.

Bitcoin isn't "good" for gambling, buying/selling drugs or what have you.  It's "good" for transacting wealth.  That's it.
