Hello all this will be the official PXC update thread. Please Check back frequently for future updates!

On Friday June 7th 2013 there was a mining hash spike for PXC. Hashing jumped from 700 m/hash to 3+ gigs in a matter of minutes.  With such a increase in hash rate difficulty jumped to 10 and since the coin profitably fell so quickly hash rate dropped instantly. This delayed the launch of 2 sites we were going to put live this weekend do to the speed of the confirmations. We have not been able to test these sites as quick as we would like to test for bugs or errors. But we will be launching these new sites soon!

We are working on a fix for the difficulty adjustment so this issue does not happen again in the future.
We appreciate the community's support and as always will address your concerns and listen to your feedback.

Thank you for posting this, I am by no means a "Big Miner" and I am relatively new to the crypto scene.  From what I have seen so far I have a lot of faith in PXC

Maybe you should post here something to encourage miners to get back on PXC or the remaining 50 megahash will vanish.  Embarrassed Im saying this meanwhile mining with 5 mega / sec.

Well, that's simple. An adjustent to the diff. retarget time will fix this AND prevent future problems. Just make it a much shorter period. We're still going to have difficulty spikes : most coins will have that now due to those autoswitching scripts that most big miners use now.

Finally out of newbie jail so I can post! Been mining PXC since the beginning and witnessed the diff attack. Kinda a bummer to see less coin now but the worst is that hashing power is way down.

So I've been thinking. Maybe that wasn't a deliberate attack? The diff had been on a decline for days and that day it had dropped even more. Say miners are looking at it from a profitability/coin count perspective and when diff dropped they all piled in at once and caused a diff spike. This could be many independent miners acting in their own mining interests and due to the nature of how difficulty recalculates it played out this way. I'd say without some fixes most of the coins are susceptible to this kind of 'attack'.

Possible solutions could be some kind of significant decrease to the # of blocks to solve between retarget (1200, 600?) as well as possibly a maximum diff target % of change. How taxing is a retarget on the network? Aside from avoiding a fork is there a reason not to drop blocks to retarget down to some really low number and set a kind of low max % change? I'd think this would smooth out diff jumps significantly.

There's also giving out block rewards to miners to promote extra mining so we can get to the next retarget block sooner. Wouldn't solve the core issue though...

Lastly I realize some people worry a hard fork could hurt the reputation of the coin. I'd think this is more problematic with a coin in the middle of a lot of hype. Thankfully PXC hasn't quite gotten there yet and making sure we have the proper fixes into the network BEFORE an explosion in popularity would be an important preemptive measure to prevent this from happening again.

So either way my miner is still going at a steady 800kh or so but hopefully some more miners (not too many! Cheesy) join in to help get to the next 2400th block and hopefully see the block time fall more inline with network rate again.

BTW good work PXC dev team!

A lot of us are anxiously awaiting an update on this.  I see that the network hashrate is still dropping and there are more people selling on crypsy.  I am currently trying out solo mining to see how it goes.

Hi all just wanted to give a quick update.

First off we are addressing the difficulty issue , we are in talks with several people in the community looking for permanent fix once and for all.

Due to these issues, some of the projects have suffered a small time delay, and other have moved forward in the timing.

We are currently finishing up our exchange system. This was moved to the front of the line for a multitude of reasons.

Thanks for the community's support. We are actively working on these issues, and creating things for PXC.

Sorry we are not more active on the boards lately, but we have our heads down and working like mad over here.

I am sure you will agree that our time, right now, is better spent solving issues, rather then posting on the boards.

Trust me, I am looking forward to a break, where I can relax and mingle on the boards.

M.
