Just wait and it should update soon. It happens sometimes and should be changed in max 1-2 hours. Just alert the manager that you have updated the avatar and it'll be seen soon.

CTRL+F5 or CMD+F5 refreshes the cache. The avatar may not update on the browser but it definitely has changed. You just preserved the old avatar in the cache and that's what it shows.

I have f5, ctrl+f5... even started other browsers to clear the cache memory and it still locks onto my old avatar.  grrrr... pretty frustrating.  I wonder what I am doing incorrectly

Well first you should download the image for your avatar, then go to your profile, upload avatar choose the image for your avatar and then after you upload refresh the tab, if it doesn't appear log out your account and log in again, if you cannot download and upload well you should check the pixel size image.

If there is a problem with the pixel size then you simply cannot upload the avatar image.
For the OP, you can refresh the page but as Aventhe said alert the manager and wait. You have the new avatar but it needs several minutes to be shown...
