I just read a really interesting article on Bitcoin Magazine's website: http://bitcoinmagazine.com/btcglobal-commoditizing-the-bitcoin-exchange/ about what BTCGlobal is doing for Bitcoin exchanges.  It sounds really exciting and a bit step forward in my opinion.

I imagine as time progresses more people will begin using alternative exchanges other then mtgox.
