Hi! Just found this thread, and yes the unit is in the shop here for review. Hopefully I'll be able to add some knowledge as to what causes Avalons to go bad and see if there are ways to fix them.
In this case, the unit apparently was sold to the current owner, who needed one of the AUC (UART to USB) connectors. Once procured, the unit failed to hash. The internal daughterboard was replaced and the right side board would come up intermittently. At that time it was noted that the left side ribbon cable servicing the left side board was burned (will post a pic at some point), and when the good cable was swapped to the left side the unit stopped working completely.
However the unit does report the right side board, just with a temp of 85c all the time, and a voltage reading on the +12 line of 3v. Both of which I do not think are true :-)
What I think is going on is this: 1) A short to +12 on a signal line on the left side developed and faulted the first daughter board. Will see if I can identify the component. 2) Same happened to the second daughter board when the ribbon cable was plugged in again. Drat.
I'll see if I can isolate which component is the a/d converter (doubtful) or the i2c interface (possible) on the daughter board. I doubt there are schematics out there but one can always hope. If the lines feed straight into the MCU on that board it could be a problem since although that processor could be swapped they probably have an IPL loader routine that allows it to be reflashed. We'll see.
Second line of attack will be to review the left side and see if there's any components obviously out on that side and where the short to ground might be. It could be in the sensor to detect +12 rail voltage, if that went to shorted I could see enough current going through to burn the wire.
Interesting problem.... If anyone has a contact at Cannan or knows where parts can be procured drop me a line.

No problem. This is a weird issue, and I enjoy a bit of a challenge. No guarantee I can fix it of course, but I will give it a shot.

Well it is interesting. What happened is there is a direct 12 volt hard short between +12 on the bad side of the miner through the line that burned to the MCU. Granted, no schematics but it looks like the chip in question that shorted may be the voltage detector for the 12v rail. This would explain why the MCU now sees locked values on the other side.
Next question is can I flash a new Spartan with enough firmware to allow a load of bootstrap code.

Hey stugots2 Found this in the US for A6's it's temping my only problem my house can't handle that many A6's at once i have a room sound proofed for noise it's the Electricity that would be a bitch for me . i can't draw that much in my house with out the Electricity company sticking there nose in plus id have to up grade my service ... I'm happy at 200 amp service for now ... https://www.parallelminer.com/product/35th-a6-kit-bitcoin-miner-2-avalon6/@ lightfoot i told him a few times to hit you up glad you found him.... I'm a ware some one made a post about MinerWarez but with Parallelminer no custom fees or dealing with customs and there out in CA .... i think you get free shipping or less then if you order else were like out of the US ... NO EU tax etc ... no tax unless your state has that kind of tax mine doesn't for out of state internet buys for instate online buys I have to pay sales taxes . . or any thing bought in my state as most states do . stugots2 also like i said before be careful you can brick the MCU , I bricked two of them an unless you have the right tools to un brick them your F**** so don't update the MCU unless you need two and then be real care full which MCU file update you use it has to be at least 2 mb size just a tip ... Last thought my A6 hashes better with a 1400 watt or higher Psu running it . that was advice i was given in one of the other A6 posts and it's true or mine does ... it seems using a 1200 watt Psu really won't cut it ..with my A6 on a 110 or 220 line i tested it on both with a few 1200 watt psu's ....so i plug into a 2400 watt psu an it hashes @ 3.5 th or higher volts stay around 11.9 to 12 V unlike using a 1200 watter it hashes at 3.0 th or lower with lower voltage . temps seem to stay the same no mater what Psu i use 29 to 31 C. Soon BTC dust will be worth a lot .so keep those old out dated S5 C1 or AVALON 4 if they work still, once BTC hit 10 k or higher they might be worth firing up ....

why not Avalon is as good as it gets right now compared to bitmain or anything else at this moment in time at least till next year and they seem a lot nicer then bit main ... I'm hoping Japan will be able to make things better and we start getting a better deal but that's next year if it's gonna happen . https://bitcoinmagazine.com/articles/japanese-company-will-launch-new-bitcoin-mining-operation-7-nm-chips/

Ask if they have another board. Also does anyone know anyone at Cannan who can share a schematic for this bridgeboard. I'm fuzzing it out now, but it is of course slow going...
