How long does it take the cool the room? How many vid cards
well, the cool thing about it is that it's the 8,000 BTU but only uses 650 watts. it says 760 watts on the specification sheet I think but I hooked it up to the kill-a-watt and it was generally around 620-635 & sometimes going up to 650. i didn't used to mine in this room but it'd get hot from the computer, anyway... but now I mine on a 7950 + 7850 constantly + the computer itself (with 3 hard drives, tons of peripherals, etc, because it's my main comp) and a few other things (alarm clock/radio, etc).. probably about 1000 watts of heat. i have 2 circuits in here, & I may end up moving one of my other machines in here.. it gets too cold, really. i'm wearing a long sleeve shirt and some pants + socks and it's like 90o outside... the problem is the 'auto' mode isn't configurable and it doesn't drop until the room temp drops to 68o... and then it turns on the fan.. haha... 12x14 room, 168 sq ft. you still have to hook the exhaust up to the window but it's not totally ghetto like some swamp AC.
my main problem with it was the dehumidifier tank was filling up too fast (northeast texas, etc).... but I solved that by just putting the unit on a platform and hooking the hose up to drain into a big 5 gallon container instead of whatever it holds itself (probably just 1/2 a gallon or so). it would fill up every 6 hours or so and shut off... this way, it just drains itself constantly and i only have to empty it every other day or so.
i'm pretty surprised, really. most of the portable AC units get horrible reviews, but this one you'll usually see at 4 stars +.. I bought mine at Lowe's, but it's probably cheaper online somewhere.... you'd want to make sure you get the GB-PAC-08E4 model instead of the one that NewEgg has
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16896808095, that's the KY80, it has less dehumidifying capacity & uses more watts. less efficient. this is the good one:
