How many bitcoin users in total?

Does anyone know about an estimate of the amount of bitcoin owners/users? A good estimate would be the amount of clients downloaded but can't seem to find any recent information on this matter.

If you look at the number of addresses with funds in them, then divide by 5 or 6, it's a pretty good estimate.

I think that's a bad idea. There are many users who have downloaded the client but don't have any bitcoins in their wallets.
