Litecoin was regarded as silver to Bitcoin. However, its performance is much worse than Bitcoin.

What's your view on Litecoin's future? Will it catch up or continue to underperform?

It depends on what you view as underperformance. Litecoin has gone from strength to strength in this last twelve months, in case you didn't notice! Remember how difficult it was for Bitcoin to break past $1000. Litecoin did almost reach $100 but it will definitely make a few more runs for it. Once that mark is broken, then $200 and $300 can only be a matter of time. Bright future for sure, maybe not as blinding as Bitcoin but we always knew that.

When I said underperform, it is comparing to the BTC at the time I mined. 1 LTC was around 0.03 BTC at that time. Now it's around 0.01 BTC. However, I also agreed that it raised quite a lot this year. Hopefully it will keep the momentum  Smiley

I see.

I mined some LTC a few years back and just put them aside. I'm thinking whether I should switch them to BTC or ETH.
I think btc is more promising nowadays but I still believe ltc will grow about 4x from current price eventually. As now there are may icos and among them a lot of scammers, trust to a coin might become more and more important. As litecoin is the most trusted coin after btc, this may help it grow in popularity during hard times. Moreover, Charlie is working on the coin, so maybe he will eventually offer something new and amazing which will make ltc great.

I also hope the LTC Dev team can bring some innovation to the coin. I trust they are great team, but just relatively not as vocal as others.

In my opinion, litecoin is actually not underperforming today. If you look at its BTC equivalence, you might say it's underperforming, but take a look at its value in dollar. There was a point in July of 2017 where it reached an equivalent value of 0.021 BTC or $42.50 (BTC price by that time is $2000). Although the value of litecoin in terms of bitcoin has dropped from 0.021 BTC in July to 0.0095 BTC today, its value in US dollar has rised up from $42.50 in July to $54.00 today. That's because bitcoin price has rised up, which pulled up the value of litecoin in terms of US dollar.

For me, litecoin will still catch up in the near future, and will remain at top 5 best cryptocurrencies of all time.

well let's hope that litecoin will be from one of the best cryptocurrencies in the future. well until now litecoin still in need, and even managed to compete with other cryptocurrency. so I think litecoin will get great attention in the future.

I'm a fan of litecoin but not very happy with the recent progress at all but maybe i'm just too impatient. But I wouldnt give up on litecoin, it already proved through the years that LTC is unbeatable. It's price is slowly but surely raising its value. And also if BTC will soon be exhausted people will find other alt coins and most probably LTC is the next choince. So I would keep my LTC Smiley

Litecoin has gotten pumped and right now is in the correction phase. So that is why right now it may seem like that it is underperforming. To me, litecoin is still the silver to bitcoin, not ethereum. It's just sentiments for old investors.

After this current dip i think the price will be driven up by the markets.

But how long this dip will last for i have no idea. Could be a whole year or more like last time.

In the absence of a hack - I think we will see somewhere between $12,500 - $15,000 per bitcoin.

With a hack of the protocol - it will fall close to zero - until a massive patch is put in place, and gradually rise from a zero base.

I think the protocol will evolve over time to overcome this risk but it is an important one worthy of consideration.

Litecoin including coins that are very rare / difficult to get except trading in the exchange, i thinks maybe the current this coins performance is not good. seems a future Litecoin will decrease further as time goes by. coins that have a bright future currently that is ETH.
but I still love this coin even though the situation until now is not good.

litecoin is one of the oldest coins that has been around. it kept the price up all these years and it even went up in value. that is not something small to ignore in an altcoin when you are talking about how good that said altcoin is.

speaking of ETH, you should not compare these two because ETH has a huge premine which they have been using to pump the price, spam advertise about it and generally to manipulate the market. and also there are are all these ICOs that keep coming out and keeping ETH price up despite all the dumps and bubble bursts. if ETH could keep its price up like this as long as LTC did then you can start comparing them.

Buying the dip...

There is no more or less future there than there was last week.

It was said that
If BitCoin is called gold then litcoin will be silver. But I think not, I think ETH is silver, and I think ETH is higher than lithecoin
LiteCoin is one of the oldest electronic coins along with BitCoin,
But so far it has lagged behind because there are so many other currencies with outstanding technology and outstanding applications.
ETH main purpose is not even of a currency coin yet, period. You should compare apple to apple and orange to orange.

LTC only advantage over BTC right now is just LN. LTC transaction speed and fee is more optimal as well but not heavily tested like BTC. But if the plan to integrate LTC and BTC goes through (being able to use LTC to pay for items priced in BTC as well), then LTC market movement might be shooting up faster than Monero.

Whilst growth long term probably won't be that big with litecoin since its original purpose of being an ASIC resistant altcoin has already been broken since the introduction of litecoin ASICs, and right now it's entirely community and founder based coin.

But there should still be a few more pumps left in the tank for Litecoin at least.

Short term, it will break 0.01 BTC again sooner or later. Long term, not as bullish as the others.

Cant quite understand why gimmicky ""new tech" premined rebranded coins/tokens get so much attention. LTC is THE BTC little brother and THE NO1 alternative to BTC (no need for any BTC forks). Been around since 2011. Huge network, Supported on many exchanges.
Prediction for 2018: 160$ at least. BAck to the 0.02 ratio   ,

LTC is also heavily concentrated in a few hands. But comparing ETH and LTC is appples/oranges thing. You can compare LTC to BTC though, currently LTC has LN but not nearly enough users and adoption to make good use of it.

Atomic swaps are a reality, but before that catches on
..a lot of things could happen

Now LTC just doesn't offer anything BTC doesn't do better, with exponentially larger users base and much wider adoption.

Saying LTC is silver to BTC gold is wishful thinking, as it is nothing of the like.

This is due to of the fact that, the attractionof Bitcoin is too big. The investors just take care Bitcoin and forget the Litecoin. Dont worry, It is still a good coin with a slow growth
