I don't know much about stocks but i know that in stocks if you think certain stocks will fall, you can short them and make money.  However with bitcoin/altcoin, can you short or is that not possible?  Also isn't it true shorting is very dangerous because you can lose a lot more shorting than investing in bitcoin/altcoin?

I know when prices drop, that is when you want to buy because you want to buy low and sell high.  So what would be the strategy if bitcoin/altcoin stays the same or keeps dropping etc?  Thus its all red and stays that way?  Of course you could buy... then wait till it goes back up and sell to make profit.  But you don't know how long that would that or it could possibly not and keep going down etc.  I understand that if you want to daytrade, well you buy it at certain price then sell at certain price to lock in profit.  Thus if prices go higher and you bought earlier, you will make profit if you sell.  But besides buying the coin at low prices, you aren't making any money at the moment.

So what do daytraders do then?  Thus daytraders are on the computer looking at the markets all the time etc.  So if everything keeps going down, how do they make money?  If prices keep dropping for a long time, then there is no money to be made right?  Or is there?  Because what do daytraders do if the market prices keep going down etc?  Sure you can buy a lot of coins at cheap prices but you don't know how long it would take to go back up etc.

Yes, I will continue to make money from Bitcoin, Altcoin if the price continues to fall, this does not affect much of my work.
But if in trading, you will play margin, this is very good but also very risky when you play uncontrollably

When all the prices are falling, you act like a "bear". Grin
You sell all the cryptos that you have, wait for a while and buy them, when the prices are lower. The difference between the prices is your proft.
That`s how traders make profit ,when the markets are going down.Shorting is the other way,but you already know about it.

Here I can understand well that how the mind get disappointed when the price of the coins( bitcoin or altcoins ) get down rapidly .
Here we can handle every situation easily but we need a perfect timing and perfect idea to make small prediction .
Just take and example that the price of the bitcoin is about $4000/btc , and you have just bought at the same price but after you bought the price getting down then in that case what you will do ? , Ofcourse you will needed to have money in your hand and buy bitcoin again at low price to make the whole buy bitcoin at Average price .
If you don't have money in your hand then you will needed to do trade with your btc and make the amount more and wait until the price again get back up .

when bitcoin price falls i have the same strategy as always:
if i can predict the fall before it happens, i will sell my trading funds and wait until the bottom is reached and buy back with profit.
if i can not predict it and it was already too late, i wait it out and then buy bitcoin at the bottom with the fiat funds that i invest in bitcoin every couple of weeks.
in short bitcoin falling means buying opportunity for me.

if altcoins drop i am rarely there to see them drop because i only invest in altcoins that are rising not those that have risen already or are struggling to keep what price they already have up! and that means i rarely see the drops. i also make sure to dump them just as fast and that means i am always out before the market wide dump begins.

Hence the cryptocurrency price is volatile, i would not sell if price keeps falling. I would just like to hold for longer time and buy more when the price gets down.
It is not expert traders strategy to sell immediately when you see price getting down, patience is essentialy required at such moments.
You would have a great opportunity to buy more coins at cheap, profits are for sure in this terminology if you are a long term trader.

If the fall is around 10 - 20% i usually cut my losses. But if the loss is approaching say 30 - 50%, i do not sell instead i found a way to buy more even if i don't have money i make sure i get raised! I believe my consistency should pay off very soon

Yeah , this is a good way to hold your money for the future to make the loss into profit Because here in that case we became disable to do anything .
Here perosnally I make buy more bitcoin or altcoins after going down into the price because the main reason behind this is that , it is the surity that the coin's price will rise surely once in the future soon and with small increase in the price will results into profit definitely .
So here our simple stretagy works better in such cases.
And here I would like to teach every newbie in this trading field that they never sell thier coin after getting loss due to down in the price because that will only results into loss , so why not we should wait to make profit.

You can short, yes. Bitmex is probably the most liquid place to short futures contracts. They also offer a perpetual swap contract (no expiration date) and several altcoins. And they have very high leverage.

But yes, it's very risky to short BTC and even more so to short altcoins. If you're going to do it, I would use low leverage, like 1-3x, and be resolute about sticking to your system and taking losses when necessary.

We are still obviously in a bull market, so I'm more interested in dips as buying opportunities, not shorting opportunities.

in a bear market when prices are falling they usually suggest selling of what you are holding and staying out until the prices reach the bottom. however you can use margin trading to make profit when price is falling down.
I am not an expert in this because I don't like this strategy of trading because of its associated risks and also because exchanges that I use for trading altcoins do not have this option. so I go the traditional way of dumping my altcoins and buying them back whenever there I a pump coming.

Making money while bitcoin or altcoin keeps falling is not a big issue, you just need to be actively trading them by short selling and day trading if you are really fit for it, because it's not easy as you thinks. It's possible for you to make money while bitcoin or altcoin is falling and the best strategy i use for that is short selling it with positive averaging while the coin is downtrending and falling with strong volumes, which indicates there is no demand and all the trader's are interested in shorting it.

With the current situation in the altcoin market, mostly day traders have a chance at making any decent amount of profit because of the constant rises and dips. Possessing knowledge about upcoming impactful events could be a reasonable way of assessing the price margin and flipping at the right price could land in the green profit zone.

You can still make money while bitcoin/altcoin prices are falling by hedging your portfolio.

If you know the price of your coins will go down in the near future, sell them immediately. This way, you will be able to buy more of it once the price goes down. This move is actually quite risky, but if pulled off correctly, you'll have more of whatever your original coin amount was. Good luck!

Convert everything to USDT and buy back at (what you think is) the lowest point Wink. If you time it right, then you can have the same currencies with more coins.

I think you can offset some of the loss for unrecoverable investments by waiting until prices fall to the floor and accumulate money to buy more btc or altcoins and wait. When the price increases you can sell to offset the previous loss, if you are lucky, you can also  have profits but it is important to choose the correct currency which can recover.

The prices of a trading assets like bitcoin and altcoins cannot continue going down and the day traders make little profits from the little corrections along the lines. When I was day trading in forex trading, I do make my money from following Fibonacci level using 30 minutes chart. When price go up there were times when traders take profits several times and most of those times scapers make their money by buy low and sell high. If price is going down scapers will buy low and if there are many that buying lower than, we would have price corrections and scapers will make their money by buy low and sell high.

In a situation when price keeps dropping when you buy, its obvious that is a loss position and there is nothing you can do about it because you know the risk of what you are entering into to have put money into it. But the way you react is what you can do something about which is either cutting your losses and take more risk which might turn out to be the best one. In the crypto trading, we are used to increase in price and one week of wait is always too week for us. But when you can wait, then it could eventually paid off.

There are severals ways to cut your loss once that the btc/alt price is falling, but i dont see it as a bad thing, you should know that btc/alt price is adjusted to the USD price, and you will always have the same amount of money. If the altcoin price goes up, then your btc price will increase, but if the price of BTC goes up, then it will decrease, and this is how it works. All the altcoins are going down in btc/alt price because bitcoin is going up so fast, and altcoins are doing the opposite.

If you've already been to cryptocurrency for so long you will already know the answer , we already know that bitcoin/altcoin price is volatile and it can change in every moment , If you feel like the price is falling down and you are lost  then Don't sell just HOLD your coin , and when the price was rising and you already have a good profit then sell , keep in mind that timing , patience and self discipline is needed for you to make money on trading .
