Hey guys.  My first rig attempt was running fine until the PSU blew out.  I am running 4 Sapphires 7950's 4L with a sata HD.  I had a 850 watt PSU.  It ran for three days until it blew out.  Please advise so I can pony up the money for a decent one.

I saw this one:

COUGAR COUGAR-GX1050 1050W ($151.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817553008

and this one:
Rosewill LIGHTNING-1300 1300W  ($219.99)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182063

Or is there one for a decent price that you suggest?  Thanks ahead for any advice.

850 watt for 4 7950, which you are probably overclocking and overvolting, I'm not surprised it blew up. That's easily 1200 watts DC.

I have 4 rosewill lightning 1300, 2 of which I run close to or at 100% capacity with 6 x 7970 undervolted and overclocked (bitcoin, not litecoin). They hum along without breaking a sweat.

There seems to be a lot of hype about the lepa 1600W, but I am not a fan of multi rail. I absolutely hate load balancing.

all modern psu's are dual rail.

My negative trust rating is reflective of a personal vendetta by someone on default trust.

As noted 4 sapphires + components needs more power than what you were giving it.

My advise is to figure out how much power you need and get a power supply that has more W's than that (add some to be on the safe side).

Not true, my OCZ gold 1250W PSU is single rail and I ran 4 7970s on it for 18 months.

My Killawatt was saying around 900-910 was being used.  I was hoping my 850w psu could handle it but it couldn't.  I'm leaning to the Rosewill being that so many people have given it such good reviews compared to the other.

I'm pretty happy with my XFX 1250W unit.  Got excellent review at Jonnyguru, and it's basically a cheaper Seasonic (same guts, different case).

I've also got an older Zalman 1000W which is fine, too.  I got it used off eBay, though it's a bit short of PCI-E connectors, so resorted to Molex adapters which I don't like using.

No reason to facepalm...His Kill-A-Watt would measure the wall usage. The rating is for what the PSU will put out. Since the efficiency isn't 100% his hope wasn't that misplaced. I would go bigger to get some headroom but that psu should have been able to handle.

Well the fan is not turning on the PSU anymore.  I do see the LED lights on the MOBO but the PSU will not turn on.  I unplugged everything from the mobo and the PSU still doensnt turn on.  I checked the MOBO and I dont see any burnt plugs.

Ok ok. I admit that was a little bit snarky. Apologies. Did not consider other things on the Kill-A-Watt.

I'm a bit OCD and like to have 20% headroom on my PSU's for the TDP I'm doing per chassis.

Hello:  Well I tried everything again.  I'm pretty sure this PSU is dead.  I ended up ordering the Rosewill Lightning 1300w.  Hopefully I will be safer with enough power.
