Another Devtome request:

There's not yet anybody to formally do this but been starting to file all devtome articles as numbers are growing and logistically will become difficult over time as most do not categorise their articles at the end or by submission date so each has had to be skim read for subject matter/fiction (topic is not always clear from title). This will also make it easier to note new additions and spot any contentious work.

Would be a great help, a lot quicker and to everyone's benefit if each author could have a quick run through just their own articles and file them appropritely (just involves copying the article title part from the url (e.g. the bold part here http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=gold) -> finding appropriate category -> edit at the top and pasting to the appropriate part with two square brackets either side as the other links [[gold]] (and formatting it a little if you can for tidiness without any underscores).

I've spent some time tidying it up, adding categories and subs and going through articles one-by-one but it's slow and takes ages. Should now be fairly straightforward to find the right place for your work, and you will fiind many have already been done. Category only has to be ballpark, we can go through later and finalise, but authors know best what their articles are about (if you feel there's no appropriate subheading for your work new categories can be added in the same way as articles (without adding to your own page), I'll then spot the addition and link to it.

If you can find time to do this can you let me know ehen you have and I'll take it from there and work from the 'latest' which is now near complete.
Cheers

Hey there! I'd like to report a user: http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=wiki:user:eeharris

He's posted a massive book under "collated" that he just copied and pasted from elsewhere. Not an article based on a book, he went looking for books that weren't copyrighted and then decided to use that to get 80 shares.

Hey there. Just went through his other articles. A lot of what's in them is copied from elsewhere (even his "original" ones). Case-in-point:

http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=when_prophecy_goes_rogue

Check out Appendix 3. This is copied from this page:

http://pjmiller.wordpress.com/2008/07/07/dispensationalism-today-yesterday-and-tomorrow-part-1/

You can find this by doing a simple search for "A person’s theological system is his basic understanding of what the overall teachings of Scripture are and how they interrelate."

Also, he often notes that things were taken from elsewhere.

His articles as a whole are completely suspect at this point.
[/quote]

For the sake of laying some minds at ease:

1. The "massive book" is not just copied from elsewhere. The Life of God in the Soul of Man is a revision and meets all the criteria for commercial publication as a new work, although not written by me. It is a revision. I do not claim the content is mine, but the work involved in preparing it involved a lot of time and comprehension of the material to prepare it for republication under my name as "Edited by Ethan E. Harris." I got the original images from archive.org (not the HTML or PDF) from the 1878 copy of the book. I wanted as accurate base material to work off of. I scanned them through Abbyy, which I paid for, and then at great length, went through formatting and updating text. I removed archaic terms and made quite a few improvements to an out of print book that is often sought by enthusiasts, myself being one of them. BUT, Instead of publishing it as a revision through CreateSpace or something like that, I decided to make the new version free for the community at large. I put a lot of work into it and the only profit I anticipate is DVC. I get quite a bit of royalties off my other work and didn't feel it was necessary to receive anything of this one. And I have been very up front about the source of my materials.

2. The second thing cited above is the 3rd appendix to my book on eschatology. I specifically cite the author and it's not pjmiller. Grover Gunn wrote that VERY short piece that I included with a citation saying that it was by Grover Gunn. I think it's rather deceptive of you to say I copied it from pjmiller's post. Even pjmilller does not quote the article at length, so if anything, pjmiller found the material just like I did and only used a few quotes. I used the article as an appendix, not claiming it as my own, but for readers who do not have access to the material. I wrote that book in 2002-2003 and at the time, Gunn's article was only available in journal articles. It's easy to find a sentence that is obviously quoted and then say "Ah! Plagiarism!" But I cite my sources and do not claim their work for mine. I am very conscious of this. pjmiller is not quoting from me and I am not copying from pjmiller. We are quoting something written by Grover Gunn and including it in our work to show people we are not plagiarizing by including that material. Wiki articles and academic treatises often include tons of references and in non-fiction, this helps identify the validity of the argument being put forward. How do you know that pjmiller didn't copy that little quote from me? Because he got it from Grover Gunn. Just like I did.

Hopefully, this will ease some tensions toward my work.

Edit: Reading back through user ranlo's complaint, I would like to note that my book has yet to be made available online. Only a few copies were given out about 10 years ago to some other authors in the field and one copy to my publisher. The content was too academic, they felt, so they passed over it. I own the copyright to the entire book and can distribute it at my discretion.

Alright, I'll take your answer as being truthful. But then one of us is misunderstanding what "collated" means I guess. You admitted you took part of someone else's work and put it in your article (by Grover Gunn). In this case the work should be collated, should it not?

I do want to thank you for taking the time to explain this. I do appreciate it, Smiley. I hope you understand that when I brought this up it was to help preserve the integrity of the site and what it's designed for.

ranlo, I am very impressed by the evenness of your response. I hold no grudge about questioning the integrity of my work. It's a good check.

Those three appendices at the end of my book *are* by others. I used them with the old-school idea that if an non-fiction book addresses an issue, it should make available some references which are nearly impossible for a broad readership to have access. At the time I wrote the book, those three pieces were nearly impossible to locate. I only found them because I had access to an extremely large research library during my first graduate program.

If any in this community feel that I should remove those appendices, I would happily do so, but I do feel that their removal would detract rather than enhance the content. I could even move them to their own collated sources if anyone wishes. If there is even one person who wants me to move it, I will do so.

I'll go ahead and let this go. Your willingness to both listen and understand is a huge sign of character, and I admire it.

I understand where you're coming from, and in this case I can also understand your reasoning.

I also want to apologize for the somewhat accusational tone I had in the beginning!

What is this Aegis that there is talking of people joining or having joined or whatever?

It is kind of out of the blue to me. Is it the name of the proposed offshore corporation or is it some forum somewhere where some stuff is published thus that has moderators? If so what does it have to do with devcoin?

What is involved in forming an offshore corporation?

Aegis is the name of the moderator account. I'm not sure if it represents anything else as well.

I'd like to know what is involved with offshore corporations as well.

Everyone please check that your earnings are in the list at:
https://raw.github.com/Unthinkingbit/charity/master/account_24.csv

The devtome earnings will be up for a day, in case someone did not get earnings because their invoice is badly formatted. If that is the case, I will run devtome.py again for only that person. Also, every new recipient should check that they received 11 devcoins, which were sent for a final confirmation of the devcoin address.

By Friday, June 14, the receiver files should be made. Round 24 payments will start at block 96,000, around July 1.

My address checks out fine. I have two receiver addresses. 148T26TsNqCLzkxuYzMSMxYvwySTZA7Sd5 and 1CfWWyDNUeioJc7TBnqDBDyQKJUYwT7S2Z.

What you have on file is fine.

also can anyone confirm this statement made here http://www.devtome.com/doku.php?id=devcoin_advertising_campaign

"Devcoin has been around for over a year, and at one point was even worth $10 per coin."

Yes it may be driving people to get interested in devcoins.... but i think it is factually incorrect and it is a shame to hear people buying loads of devcoins based on this fact having just heard about the currency... obviously it their own choice to do their own research etc and see what market value of DVC has been in past but it hard at times especially for new folk to know where to look.... and we must only state factually correct information on devtome imo.
Should we just remove that - or Fin can you tell us where you got the $10 from as that's news to me and sounds wrong and misleading?

Sort of a long shot, but not entirely implausible that the writer meant / was thinking 10 cents perhaps?  The coin has been worth more than 10 cents often enough, but ya  never close to the $10 mark.  ... Though the way it was written, it does seem like $10 was intended.

No it means we will post up the shares file to the websites the clients get them from, then over the next while the clients will each pick a random block number at which to download it, so that come the end of this round they will all have the list of shares ready for next round.

Then when the next round actually starts, which will be at the next block evenly divisible by 4000, they will pay out according to the first line of the file, the next block they will pay out according to the second line of the file and so on. If it is true that the file will have 1000 or more lines then the division into 4000 will be way more chunky than it was back when there were few lines. some lines will only get used three times, others for time, that is quite a significant difference. Back when there were less than a hundred lines the chunkiness would have been small, like maybe some lines only getting used 99 times others getting used 100 times. Maybe we should phase out fractional shares and use the ability to put five items per line to put five full shares per line or something. Or even look toward putting a hundred or more items per line.

Maybe even always have exactly 4000 lines, and fill them accordingly even if that means having some padding accounts or something.

[response to hotcoldcoin's post above]

I'm not allowing anything. Merely offering a plausible explanation for the mistake.

Note, I haven't read Finshaggy's other posts on this.

There was ONE day, April 21st, according to the cryptochart for DVC at crytocharts.info, that the coin was worth about 9$, and may have, may have briefly touched 10$.  Still would make FinShaggy's statement a big hyperbole and misleading, but I don't think this one error negates all of Finshaggy's work for the devcoin community or  think that is a  mistake worthy of banishment, personally. Just something that ought be fixed.

As for the other topic of shares, I'm slightly bitter I missed the deadline at devtome. My contrib must have missed the script by just an hour or two Sad  aw well, next round I suppose.

Yes, I am correct, but it brings me no joy.  FinShaggy's pumping is increasing, and the damage to the devcoin project is increasing with it.  This is bad news, and needs to be fixed.

Oh please, you've said this a dozen times in under 24 hours.  Give it a rest you boyscout.

When I did my research on all the alt coins in order to pick the ones I wanted to buy (some 2 months ago) I read at least one third party article which stated:  DEVCOIN was once at $10.

Why don't you stop whining and google "devcoin $10" and I bet you'll find numerous articles making this claim.

Finshaggy is simply repeating what he heard or read.  Free speech, free country and at least he's done a lot of good for devcoin and devtome where the only thing I've seen from you is whining and complaining.

So here I am, backing Finshaggy's claim.  Call me a pumper, I read it doing research.  You wanna put a scammer tag on me too now?

Grow up man, this is America!

I read on the bounties list on devtome that "Non Mining Businesses" can get a couple of shares for the round. Is this bounty still active? I have a vanity address business that accepts devcoin which can be found here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=225680.0/

What is this Aegis that there is talking of people joining or having joined or whatever?

Aegis is a moderator account started by the original poster of this thread, acs26. I asked him to make it because I realized that no one person can moderate the thread round the clock. If you want to use the Aegis account, please message acs26.

Quote
It is kind of out of the blue to me.

I was frustrated with the trolling, and after realizing that a self moderated account would stop it, I just made the 'Devcoin Moderated' thread before thinking about it. After making the new thread I realized that we needed round the clock moderation to stop trolling completely.

Quote
Is it the name of the proposed offshore corporation or is it some forum somewhere where some stuff is published thus that has moderators? If so what does it have to do with devcoin?

What is involved in forming an offshore corporation?

The offshore corporation is unrelated to Aegis. I'm not sure what is involved in forming an offshore corporation, I assume it means lots of forms. If you're interested please message me, in a couple of days everyone who messaged me will participate if they wish.

I don't know about the article, although it's collated, but the books are his own

Edit: as far as I'm aware all his original articles have been vetted as his own (by Ethan Harris) except for "When Prophecy Goes Rogue" which he has yet to link to. Unthinkingbit has now asked him to do this, I had already done so.

As a general point one should not have a problem with writings just because they are long and wait until payout cutoff day to highlight issues. The problem lies, if there is one, with the payment share methodology not the length of articles. A wiki dedicated to promoting writing is be definition likely to attract writers.

Please actually read the post. The things mentioned are definitely not his own, unless he goes by multiple different names.

1) This is the book he posted: THE LIFE OF GOD IN THE SOUL OF MAN by Henry Scougal

Not sure if Ethan Harris is the same as Henry Scougal but I assumed not.

2) The other very long article he has has a ton of copy and pasted content from various sites, such as from PJ Millers. Again, I just don't think that Ethan Harris is also PJ Miller.

There are no issues with people using articles to help spawn theirs. The problem comes when you're using a lot of other people's material copy/pasted and you're claiming it's "Original." This is what "Collated" is for. And collated does not mean taking an entire book that isn't even in your name and copy/pasting it.

COPYWRITE INFRINGMENT= i know Master P and he will come after you!

Ok, where are the mods.  This guy should be able to excersize his freedom of speech but he's blatantly calling devcoin and unthinkigbit "the mafia" which is completely groundless and ridiculous.  At least a couple of his posts need to be deleted.

And dude, you're welcome to post here but if you accuse someone of wrongdoing get proof and then I'll be all ears.  Be mature about it, you're acting like a child.

What is this Aegis that there is talking of people joining or having joined or whatever?

Aegis is a moderator account started by the original poster of this thread, acs26. I asked him to make it because I realized that no one person can moderate the thread round the clock. If you want to use the Aegis account, please message acs26.

It is kind of out of the blue to me.

I was frustrated with the trolling, and after realizing that a self moderated account would stop it, I just made the 'Devcoin Moderated' thread before thinking about it. After making the new thread I realized that we needed round the clock moderation to stop trolling completely.

Unthinkingbit, it's going to be tougher than it used to be to set up a corporation in the Bahamas.  There's been a lot of cracking down by the Feds over the last few years and now there are no more secret accounts in Switzerland, they have upended all of that secrecy.

That said, I'm sure there is now much more transparency and regulation for Bahama accounts.  I had an LLC in Delaware since that's the most favorable place to do an LLC, but that was a few years ago.

LLC is the best way to go unless you want the option to sell stock later on as that's the main difference between a LLC and a corp, well, that and lower taxes for the corp.  An LLC has the same protective "corporate veil" as a corporation which is nearly impossible to be pierced so your personal assets will protected and separate from the Company's (LLC) assets.

A Corporation will require much more tedious work like a board of directors and regular scheduled (quarterly) meeting where you have to record and maintain "minutes".  A real headache where an LLC is very simple and requires no board, no meetings and no minutes.

And as an LLC you can file an exception to be taxed at the lower rate of a corporation, so you get that benefit without the headaches.

To make the best decision and to make sure it's all legal you would most likely need a lawyer which specializes in this field - most likely a trust and estate or securities lawyer or an ex-corporate lawyer.  I'm sure they can do all the paperwork for you and determine if an LLC or a corp would be best based on what you're looking for and I doubt it would cost more than $2,000 to a max of $5,000.

An LLC in Delaware only cost me about $300 plus the $100 yearly fee as you need the law firm to represent you in that state as a trustee.

Legal zoom is a great place to start for cheap legal forms and legal advice.

Good luck!

There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about. Oscar Wilde

So, the fact someone is spending time for Devcoin, no matter how, it means he is involuntarily contributing to its growth.

Hahahahaaa.

Excellent point DeadSea33.  Excellent point.  Shalom, Brohim!
