Well, no. That's equivalent to 275 Mh/s, because there is a single, lonely, puny ASIC in our prototype. A fully populated Avalon normally has 240 to 320 ASICs.

To answer some questions: - We are located in southern California. - We will not take any money until the devices are all tested and ready-to-ship. - We will likely sell via an auction. No price in mind for now. - The chip and all the components have been soldered in a reflow oven. - The picture shows bfgminer on the laptop (latest git version + some bugfixes from myself).

- We will likely sell via an auction. No price in mind for now.
That makes a lot of sense, business-wise. Especially knowing that a lot of people have tended to overpay for mining hardware in the past. I can also understand why some people don't like it at all, because the price will probably go higher than what they are ready to pay. Now, what you need to do is to figure out in which pace you should put your products up for sale, once they are ready.

Wow. Congratulations! You beat me to it, and I am green with envy. I still don't have my sample chips (a good excuse). A partner has received his samples, but now I have to send him the only Control Unit we have.
Question: Does your Spartan chip load the bitstream from the Flash chip during init, and it should work? In my case, what happens after loading from Flash is that the Spartan halts. It seems there are certain parts to the bitstream missing. If I program the Spartan chip directly using JTAG, then it works.

good work mrb, this is what we wanted to see in the beginning. hint hint: the chip has a much higher clock cap. Is this due to advances at the fab? Does it run any cooler? at bitcoin2013, yifu stated they had a 340 mhz firmware but were holding it back.

I've known mrb for quite a while, done some very large transactions with him in the past, and he's as legit as they come. This should be good.

We are absolutely interested in doing assembly for those who have Avalon chips. But we work with minimum quantities of 10 thousand chips per customer. If you are interested, email me at m.bevand at gmail.com

Sorry, no kit.

Ok thanks. I always thought this is how other DIY's would have gone using the Avalon reference design first. I think it will be interesting to see how others manage cutting there own new designs and coding the control from scratch.

+1 When Yifu talked about the possibilities with DIY, I can finally see how well this could turn out. He said he just wanted to get away from customer service aspect of things and go back to do what he enjoyed most which was to work on chips.

Hey I emailed about a week ago and still no response. Would like to see what you can offer as I'm still considering the avalon clone as an option over the klondike.

Agreed, industrial PSUs like this one cost less, have a neater form factor, fewer or no cables, etc.
For us, we tried to deviate as little as possible from Avalon's reference design, in order to reduce extra work and risk of delays, in case errors would have been made in redesigning even easy parts of the hardware like the power supply. Remember that, had the Avalon chips shipped on time, the timeline would have been very very short for vendors like us to ship devices ASAP.

Yes. You can provide +12V DC, +5V DC, and +3.3V DC to the Avalon's power distribution unit, if you have some source for these voltages.

How much are you selling the Avalon chips for each? What about 100? Please PM me your quote. Thanks
