I just saw this on a blog. Indian based blog. How possible really is mining bitcoin through your mobile phone(samsung galaxy s5 to be specific).

From what i saw. It seems that the samsung company set the phones like those hardware miners. Theyve also stated that a 7 samsung galaxy s5 can mine faster than the i7 core gpu. If this is really a success it could really be a big help for us. We can easily buy some of this 2ndhand samsung phones and can easily be in the business

Never heard anything about it, so I don't know if it can mine better than a gpu, or than a i7, but it can't compete with an asic, so it will be worthless when it comes to mining bitcoin. Maybe you can use it for those asic resistant coins (like bitcore or bgold), but forget it if you want to get into bitcoin mining. Even not knowing the technology well, I feel very confidant when I say that you can't mine bitcoin with it, otherwise it would mean that everyone in the mining industry was stupid, and I don't think that is possible of course, since it's a bln dollar industry.

I don't think Samsung Galaxy S5 is specific in anything. All Samsung hardware are almost the same.

You won't earn any significant amount of Bitcoins mining with a smartphone, I know there are some miner apps for Android, but they're a waste of processing power.
Even with 40 of them bundled together, I doubt that you'll make ends meet, heck you'll probably spend more on fees than anything.

I assume you're talking about this article:
https://www.cryptocoinsnews.com/samsung-creates-bitcoin-mining-rig-with-40-used-galaxy-phones/

Seems more like a cool proof of concept than anything else.

It's totally not worth it. Smartphones are not made to be working with 100% load for an extended period of time. The components will degrade much quicker if the processor will keep the elements heated up for days or weeks and the battery will go through multiple charge/discharge cycles within 24 hours. You'll just kill your phone if you try to mine and the amount of coins mined will be very low.

Yes it's been on the internet news websites and it's spread. Samsung will be releasing an APP that they've made which is specially built for mining with those s5's.  But this is not a worth it investment and if you want to try this out better to invest in trading or with real mining rig (ASIC or GPU). For sure that mining APP will just help to blow out those s5's easily. It's a big help to the community since Samsung is now open with crypto and mining but to be wise, I won't try this out.

Theyve also stated that a 7 samsung galaxy s5 can mine faster than the i7 core gpu.
Wow! In that case, a phone could mine at least a few satoshi per year, assuming that there are no costs whatsoever.

I can't find any actual useful information on this topic, but it's most likely that these would be used to mine altcoins rather than Bitcoin.  They would have to be running on ASIC-resistant coins or they would still be essentially worthless.

There is something to the concept of reusing old smartphones though.  From a business perspective it's been overlooked, because I think that people would be more willing to pay the high prices for a good phone if they knew that they could resell it later for a decent price and it would still be used.

When I saw tittle of thread, I thought you are kidding. But looks that not. Still, it looks very stupid idea for me. Phones aren't made for mining and it can't be profitable. It's just fast way to overheat phone and finally kill it. Maybe it's possible to mine some altcoins with phones, but I think it's not worth to do it.

As what i have learned about mining it will need a huge source of electric power so that you could earn enough coins as the process will need to work overtime in which i cant imagine just in a single cellphone. I think you will need hundreds of cellphone in order to create a massive power to support the process but still nothing can beat the electical source provided by the natural electricity provider in which they have a very stable source.

Why will they make app for s5 when they already have s8 with better hardware and especially why will they take care of bitcoin mining? Some people here don't like antminer s7 for mining and who will use samsung galaxy s5? You want to say that galaxy s5 can replace antminer s5? No man, forget mobile mining but can't to not agree you. It's great feeling when your phone charges on wifi, you walk and your phone earns money, nothing can be so amazing.
Who said samsung is opened to crypto? Never heared about that.

I think using cellphone in mining is not strategic and not profitable. We all know the that the processor power of a phone is not powerful unlike the real desktop computer. I am also disagree that samsung s5 phone is fater that I7 core GpU desktop. Its a big no way... its better to buy hardware for mining if you're willing to invest to earn bitcoin in the future than to spend your money buying old samsung phone.

i saw that news somewhere in a facebook page. samsung use a lot of s5 to mine bitcoin and it was stated that it is more efficient than mining through gpus but they didnt say that it earns more bitcoin by using those rather than mining through gpus, i believe mining through cp is a lot weaker than using gpus/cpu.

I have been using a Samsung S3 Mini--not for mining, mind you--and it routinely goes through a couple battery lives daily, and I've been using this phone for 4 years now.  It's a frigging tank!  That's interesting, I didn't know any of what you just wrote, not being an engineer or computer science guy.  What I do know is that I'd love to be able to mine bitcoin, or any decent altcoin, on a cellphone.   I'd do it in a heartbeat.   Maybe one of these days it'll become possible, but I tend to believe the folks who posted here saying that it isn't.  Sounds too good to be true.

Samsung are making some sort of advertisement this days. And I will not be shocked that they’re the one making this stories. Is it even profitable? as I think it can’t be. 7 smartphones oh I really need to buy a gpu on my own now than those mobile phones. This is too much publicity for unprofitable ideas, that might just be a marketing strategy from the brand itself.

Does iPhone be next or I’m just waiting to have one for sure I’m gonna try this one. Lol

I have never heard anything like it! it looks like nonsense! as a mobile processor can better mine than a full i7 core. I agree that this is good for advertising for the company, that's all.

i've encountered this article a few days ago,it's saying that samsung wants to use its mobile phones for mining, and there is also a video that came with it, there were a lot of phones, inserted in one platform, and then they perform mining, still i doubt it, though samsung is a great company, still they want to advertise their products, i guess it's all for publicity so more people will buy them. i think if the technology they created was true, why would they sell it to public, rather than mine their own bitcoins, using that technology, and even if it were true, it will still be costly. for now, what we can do is to keep on an eye on samsung, since there was a rumor back then that satoshi nakamoto is not a person but a group of businesses and samsung is allegedly one of them, maybe they can create a mobile mining system.

A lot of news about the mining of samsung s5. Some say even 40 samsung s5 can be faster than computer, etc. But what I found was only a matter of discourse or trial news. I have not found some success story about this, about how long the phone can survive, how much time it takes, and how much will get in a certain period of time with the samsung mining.

Oh look, I'm only 7 short of old S5s building a rig that's more efficient than a desktop lol. But seriously, you're much better off getting desktops or actual mining rigs instead.

This is cool and all, but it really doesn't seem viable. How long would these phones last when used for mining 24/7 anyway? They're not built for that kind of usage.

Ive always wondered about this. Ive tried mining apps on phones, they suck ass for the most part. but I have always wondered if you suspended android, and just used all that beautiful hardware and gpu, what would really happen. I guess this LOL. but these devices arent really designed for all that noise, and the batteries will rapidly degrade. I have a hotspot that has seen some crazy ass man hours of use; its totally on its last leg. swollen battery (which is dangerous) and a non responsive touch screen (yet i havent interacted with the screen for years).

miners are the best bet, esp given that electricity will be your fuel Smiley you want the most efficient device (not the most inexpensive device) because the difficulty will increase.

I've read about this news lately seems like samsung is trying to give life again to older phones by using them in creative ways such us security cameras and bitcoin miner (grouping 40 phones S5) that run on a custom OS not android. Personally I don't think it's enough to mine but  there is this picture that describe the power of those 40 phones grouped toghter : https://i.imgur.com/zeg7tc5.png

using smartphone for mining bitcoin is possible because many people did that before, however, using smartphone has disadvantages such as the amount of bitcoin 1 smartphone can earn is very small, so they use many smartphones, however, it costly buy smartphones and it can dammage your batterlife or explode when use it a whole day.

Oh thats good news to us if samsung galaxy s5 can mine bitcoin. If that's true I will buy samsung galaxy s5 so I can mine bitcoin because for me its very hard to mine because I don't  have personal computer i have only laptop that't not porfitable for mining. For sure if that happen we can earn bitcoin with the use of mobile phones but I dont know how it is really works. Because for sure they have negative effects to your phone.

I tried this website and it gives you satoshis which need to be claimed. Amount of headache and ads it provides is not worth it. For 12 hour consistent rapid claiming, it produces satoshis worth of 6 cents. This could improve.

i don't think that using cell phone to mining bitcoin will give best result because the specification of the cellphone is not too good for mining and i think it will make the cellphone getting burn so fast. if i have samsung galaxy s5, i won't use the cellphone for mining because i don't want my cellphone getting damage. i think its better to use hardware mining like s9 and else to mining bitcoin which is design to mining sha-256 and we can mining without having worried something bad will happen.

Freebitco.in also offers mining through browser and I try it on my mobile phone and yes it's possible for or smartphones to mine bitcoin but it really takes a lot of patient because the earnings are really low its like 30 satoshi per hour. I just don't know how much satoshi can mine to samsung galaxy S5 it's a good idea anyway because you don't have to do anything and just wait for few hours and you can start receiving satoshi, its better instead of gambling which has no assurance of income.

freebitcoin does not mine bitcoin but an altcoin called minero(which is obviously  not worth it. It may be better if you will be the one mining that from your server than on freebitcoin). Unlike samsung galaxy s5 which truly mines a real bitcoin.

Is it really not worth it? If the article is true that the 7 samsung galaxy s5 phones can mine better than the gpu i7 core then I can really say that it is a way more better. Now the only thing here that makes me think about its worth is the durability of the device(can the device also mine the same period of time of the native hardware miners)

Very creative and ideas, but the phone cpu, computing power keep up, it is recommended developers to develop Android app to dig bitcoin so that more people can get bitcoin.

I don't think Samsung Galaxy S5 is specific in anything. All Samsung hardware are almost the same.
It isn't same at all in s5 they used to have snapdragon while all new models after s5 had Samsung's own chip set exynos.

You should have atleast read the article once that's what samsung is trying to tell you 'There are millions of phones simply being kept around they can be used for mining as they still have lot of power left in them'.

i saw that news somewhere in a facebook page. samsung use a lot of s5 to mine bitcoin and it was stated that it is more efficient than mining through gpus but they didnt say that it earns more bitcoin by using those rather than mining through gpus, i believe mining through cp is a lot weaker than using gpus/cpu.
They even mentioned it is better than mining of i7 something but again electricity prices are really important if someone decides to mine.

no joke.. how much you get if you mining from samsung s5? is that better than antminer?  Grin

anyone, please tell me if this method success, because i want to try..  Tongue
Read the article if you have any phone simply kept in your home it's better if you use it for mining that's what they are trying to tell you.

Because for sure they have negative effects to your phone.
if true samsung s5 can for mining, if it is true I will buy samsung s5 now.

Stop telling any bs for the sake of posting antminer is anyday better and the power they got was from 40 s5 which can cost more than a antminer.

For now maybe mining with smartphone is not profitable and waste of money
But i hope in the future smartphone company will develop a specific smartphone that support mining with low cost

I do not think it really works. Although the gadget has a high specification. Mining requires high-specific devices to get good results. If only using an android phone it's like a nonsense.

yes, maybe I also think like that, gadgets will not be able to do mining, because I think everything just need a tool that must be done specifically, and only used for PC only, because this gadget is designed only to communicate only and some. feature with small size.

It is possible to mine on android mobiles but there is no use of mining with android mining lookout's researchers calculated that if you're mining for 24 solid hours you'd only earn .00000007 Bitcoin.bitcoin are hugely valuable (over $600USD per Bitcoin), and therefore require huge resources to mine. But even less valuable cryptocurrency, like Litecoin, are beyond the reach of mobile miners. So its better not be fooled invest something to earn good amount of bitcoins.

I am amazed when I read OP, it seems that samsung really support this kind of system and let thing happen with their product, but to think mining consumed too much electric thing, so how they can manifest in one phone? Does it require a life time charging?
Because I am a fan of samsung at the same time earning coin, I want a clear and concrete answer if this is true.
Thank you.

I have saw that rig but i would say that they are just wasting their time on building that one since it cant really mine bitcoin for sure. Considering on the total hash of those phones wouldnt even be recognize or too far on mining bitcoin. It might be possible on altcoin mining but for bitcoin then i cant think such thing would really work out.

Maybe it can compete with (old) I7 but I recommend you to forget this shit. You will get nothing by doing such experient but wasting your time.
If I'm saying, it's maybe an unique way to destroy your phone by mining a dust amount of money and making your phone explode but well it's all up to you.
better sell that phone to buy a graphic card to mine so you will have better hashrate.

I don't know the reason for that either it's probably they are getting to the hype and they see that the sales for the mining rigs are too high. I guess you misunderstand what I'm trying to say man. I'm not saying that those samsung galaxy s5 can replace those antminers. The news tells that Samsung is now open to crypto since they are starting to mine and building their own mining rig, their C-Lab is responsible for it. They may not show any news about accepting crypto's for their gadgets but using their s5's for mining is quite a hint. My mind is now changing with what you say about earning with our phone while walking..hmmmmm.

If you had a botnet full of factory or seconded phones, with available power supply, they would do well. The samsung S4 19505, 2nd gen not the snapdragon octa, pulls 23-35h/s. if mining cryptonite..the phone uses about 2amps at 5v. nothing a battery and solar panel wouldn't fill....all for less than a monero cloud contract.....You think, if you were an e-recycle company, 50 bricked phones is nothing...

I have read the article just today. They used 5 galaxy s5s as a mining rig for bitcoins, and it was actually more efficient than a computer. They say that since the phone is programmed only for it, it actually worked faster than a PC, plus the power consumption of a phone is way lower than that of a computer. It's a good idea because it cures some of the downsides of having a computer as a mining rig.

I don't think that mining on mobile is easy task..
You can't make a decent money by mining with mobile.
So just don't waste your time while searching mobile mining applications.

you know whats really funny about your post? You are talking about sense in which you dont have. You may read it but the thing here is that you didnt even understand a single thoughts about it.
Now if you want to continue  spamming do it in the other place.

S5 uses a high end processor for mobile if your pc can mine then it can also do the same thing at a different level. Understand first how to mine before giving an opinion(of course its your opinion but make sure deliver it properly)

I downloaded an app yesterday. Now I've got 9,600 satoshi without much efforts, just did 3-4visits since I don't have an internet connection the whole day. It's a 'mining' app that depends on how many cores your phone has (just written on the faqs). I'm still not sure yet if it's paying, the minimum payout is 400,000 satoshis. Gonna try to be more active tomorrow since I don't have any other plans.
I don't really do mining (gpu, cloud or whatsoever), when I was a newbie, they say it's not advisable for me. This will be
the first time, and I don't know if this is already called mining. Grin

I dont' think a smart phone can mine Bitcoin better than computer Cheesy. Have you ever calculate the amount of money you get by mining with your phone? I think it's not enough for you to buy a new smart phone Smiley). If mining Bitcoin with smart phone really work I think nobody will spend a lot of money to buy miner anymore. Don't waste your time with mining Bitcoin through smart phone if you don't want to buy a new one Cheesy

Are you sure that it's an actual mining app? Can't imagine you could even mine 9600 satoshi's in one day with your phone.
It's possible that they just pay you from other sources of income, advertising or selling your data to companies perhaps?

I'd be careful with downloading apps like that, before you know it you have malware on your phone.

I just read through this in google "In exchange for this, they get to mine bitcoin. But Samsung's mining rig has demonstrated that you don't need a fancy CPU to mine cryptocurrency. Instead, 40 units of Samsung's Galaxy S5 can do the trick in fact, they could even mine at a greater efficiency than a desktop computer" If the Samsung's Galaxy S5 can be able to mine bitcoin then I will be an advantage to us in the bitcoin world.

Yes, it has a lot of advertisements, and will pay you 400 satoshis for watching a video ad. I watch  3-4 videos every visit and it generates 4 satoshis per minute. Also has free gift of 200 satoshis twice a day.
EDIT: after checking on the faqs, gift is every 60 minutes.

I don't understand why S5 , there are many new and better models of Samsung which can be used. But I don't think using any such devices will be much productive. Using those particular softwares and machines probably made for mining is the only good thing to make huge profits.

They haven't stated what generation was the i7. If it's the first generation then yes, the 7 Samsung Galaxy S5 phones packed with Cortex A15 and Cortex-A7 is quite faster but not that much of a difference. It wouldn't be that much of a help for those wanting to mine with these phones. You will need to completely wipe the OS first on the phones and get their own software specifically for mining before you can even start. Not to mention that you need to spend at least $1050 to get those S5 secondhand without any assurance of it to work all throughout your mining session. An Antminer S9 is around $3000 today, so you just need to find $2000 to get yourself an ample hardware perfect for the job and not waste money on used hardware that doesn't have any guarantee that would last long.

We have to confirm this with Samsung. Why the S5 only? Is there some chip or firmware that made it special? Or did something happened during assembly, a freak accident perhaps? Are all units of the S5 or just few hundred?

Galaxy S5 has a 4-core 2,5 GHz processor, i7 is powered by a 4-core 3,4GHz processor, more recent. So a single phone isn't more powerful as the I7. OP was mentioning 7 S5, combined with a good usage of the processors, it may be more powerful. But it's certainly not cheaper in energy.
You can mine with any phone that can be programmed to mine, but it's often not worth the energy spent.

In terms of durability. We know how good samsung phones are in that fields alone specially those old samsung phones(Most of those phone that are created by samsung 2 years 3 years or 4 years ago are still in good condition right now). So i could really say that its durability   equates the durability of your PC. In fact there is no need for you to spend $2000 just to have a 7 galaxy s5.

If you are going to think the processor type being used in galaxy s5 a snapdragon is a way more energy efficient than the intel core i7

I agree, much more energy efficient! And why mine btc? the networks too big, mine some KRB sitting .49cents a piece!

Also, as android is linux, theres plenty of mining ports and software available for alot of alt coins, my friend dropped off about 7 ss the other day all with some sort of nuance (dead battery, broken screen etc etc). shouldve kept them hehe
