I use this wallet primarily for airdrops since the tokens usually have to go into an ERC20 wallet. I will mention though I have come across a bit of a snag lately. I got a few airdrops worth some cash and now they are stuck in my MEW account since I have no ether in there for gas to get them out. I don't think there is any other option though as most airdrops frown on you using an exchange wallet for the airdrop and they probably wouldn't even allow it. SO yeah, I use this wallet for airdrops.

I use MyEtherwallet and so far so good, iv not had any problems with it at all, Hackers are everywhere and anyone who is not careful enough with their wallets will get hacked. stay safe while using any wallet by properly reading their security protocols and being cautious yourself.

There is no compulsion to only use My ether wallet. It is just free and open source platform for the transaction of different crypto coin. But the security is very low and there are number of stolen crypto complaints. You can use different wallets there are many in number.
You can ask for extra paid security to your wallet.

I'm using this wallet for all my transaction and over a year now. I can say that this is the best and most secured wallet I've ever used. I never experienced delayed coin transfer from myetherwallet to KuCoin which is my exchanger.
