What do you mean by "registered public companies"?Companies that are listed on Wall Street, for example?
There are big companies like Microsoft and Steam that accept bitcoin payments and many more will follow them soon. The legislation is mostof the countries in the world isn`t very clear about cryptocurrencies and this is what stops big corporations from investing in bitcoin adoption.

In fact, there are many large companies in the world accepting Bitcoin payments such as subway, microsoft, Expedia, ... and many other large corporations in the world. I think the biggest problem they have is that the price of the currency is unstable so investing and hoarding a lot of money can cause them to lose money. Besides, there is not any information that proves the source of money as well as the troublesome payment is also an important issue that they need to address.

Very few are actually accepting Bitcoin as payment. The mass majority of so-called "Bitcoin merchants" are actually accepting payments with Bitcoin. I know it's just semantics in the world of finance, but it's still a difference to me to accept actual bitcoins to the merchant's wallet and to accept bitcoin payments, that are processed via a third party, converted into fiat to the merchant's accounts. There are some downsides to using a processor, as I myself have found out: you have a limited window of time for your payments to go through, for example, otherwise the tx expires and you run into problems. The other is the extra fees and/or poor conversion rates that mean you pay premiums. I tend to avoid using Bitcoin at these.

If the latter interests you, then you just need to look at these 3rd party payment processors. The most popular at the moment are Coinbase, Coingate and Bitpay. The last in that list served a lot of online casinos. Access their merchant list and you have what you're looking for.

When they say that metro accepts payment in bitcoin this is an exaggeration. If you mean a well-known supermarket chain in my city the metro does not accept bitcoins. They only take Fiat. With Microsoft the same situation. You may have seen on the website that opportunity but I didn't see it and don't know a single person who would have bought anything in well-known companies with bitcoin. I think it's a myth.

Yeah there are tons of them. You used to be able to spend Bitcoin to pay for freelance work on Fiverr, but they discontinued that service. I don't know why, but it was cool while it lasted.

I know that Microsoft, Lamborghini, Starbucks, Subway, Intuit accept bitcoin. These are just few of the companies that accept bitcoin but there are more of them and as bitcoin's popularity is increasing, there would be more company that would accept bitcoin as payment option. One of the controversial news is Amazon whether it will accept cryptocurrency payment in the future but they don't have an update of it yet but already purchase some domains related to cryptocurrency. The companies use payment processor to convert bitcoin to fiat but maybe in the future they would accept bitcoin as it is.

You can check Dell USA's website. They accept bitcoins as payment in their online shop. Then you can also check Steam for games, they also accept bitcoins. That's pretty much all I know as of now. I would say it is not that hard to use these systems to pay using bitcoins. That's basically the purpose of having other payment methods. This way they can give flexibility for their customers on how to pay.

Yes, sadly almost all these companies use bitpay as their payment processor, and in the past few days I am not liking it much since bitpay are changing network fees for every transaction, that's like $5 for every transaction. Include this with already high bitcoin fees and it has became impossible to buy some of small amount.

Some of these big companies consider the highly unstable bitcoin price, thats why they tend to slow down on the use of bitcoin as payment nor investing and holding.

Legislation is not far from what would give them the needed confidence. For it is better to deal with bitcoin as an individual rather than a company because of its fluctuation tendencies.

Yes. Here in my country there are public companies that accepts Bitcoin payment. They are the local Bitcoin exchanges that are registered and regulated by central banks. They also are in partnership with different public or private merchants and also accept any government related bills. I think every Bitcoin related businesses faced any adverse conditions or hardships in the process. It could be a technical or volatility related issues but they are still alive and kicking. About their services so far so good haven't experience any problems with them yet.

Yes there is, here in the Philippines we have a 3rd party company who accept bitcoin as payment for water, electricity bills etc. also you can even send money to your love one locally just like western union.
I dont know about the adverse conditions or the hardship you are talking about since they are still running smoothly over the past years.
