I don't think the blockchain will become a mainstream technology, and blockchain is useful in certain areas, but it is only a mainstream supplement. At least under the current technological conditions, the use of blockchain increases mutual trust, but reduces operational efficiency and increases the operating cost of the world.

Bitcoin has a long long way to go to be anything usable. As it currently stands, its a novelty collectors' item at best. A store of value IF and only if it's price stabilises, which wont happen anytime soon either. Their team really need to ramp up to keep up with the competition.
In theory, yes, if Bitcoin implements Lightening Network and get their sh%t together, it could significantly overshadow anything out there, as the code could quite easily be adapted to most usecases.
I do agree on your points with regards to Ethereum though. I see them being more successful than BTC at the very least within the next year or two.
