I bought a used Asus on Amazon.com. I reformatted the hard drive. I then installed the Bitcoin QT wallet. It synced with the network almost immediately. What does this mean? Thanks?

Immediately? Like seconds? Something isn't right. Can't say for certain what went wrong without more details, but a few guesses: - It isn't really synced, you just misunderstand what you are looking at.
- You made some sort of error in your attempt to "reformat the hard drive" (How did you install the Bitcoin-Qt wallet without installing an operating system first?)
- You acquired your copy of Bitcoin-Qt from a compromised source and have a trojan that is pretending to be a bitcoin wallet

How fast? When I downloaded the entire block chain it was 8GB. If you were on a 100Mbit connection that would still take about 8 minutes.

Fresh install of Windows 7, then Bitcoin-Qt It did take minutes to sync. My other computers took a couple days. I acquired Bitcoin-Qt from bitcoin.com. But I guess my question is this. If the original owner of the laptop had Bitcoin-Qt on it, then wiped the hard drive, would Bitcoin-Qt somehow still know this computer when it's reinstalled? Probably a dumb question, which is why I'm asking it in the noob section.

no. just... no. the blockchain download has nothing to do with anything recognising your computer. maybe you are a student in a dorm or something, they have insane connections as long as no one downloads p**n or w***z

The blockchain is usually saved at C:\Users\[Username]\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin (@Windows), unless this part isn't wiped Bitcoin needs to download the 8GB blockchain again.

The newer versions of Bitcoin QT load incredibly fast. Use to take a good day or two to download Blockchain, for me atleast.

That makes sense, it took forever on my dad's computer though. But his connection is like 1Mb/s. Mine is much much faster. I get so frustrated when I go to his house, haha!

Do you think the previous owner used bitcoins? Thats highly unlikely. You must have a pretty good connection.
