Yes. You do need to have a certain rank. Minimum rank to post pictures is Jr member.

and yes, your test worked.

I'm wondering if I posted a link to an image as a Newbie, and then become a Jr. Member, will it magically turn into a visible image once I reach the rank, or will I need to go in and edit the image? (Sorry to get so esoteric!)

It'll turn visible. The BBCode is the same. The permissions are not. Same thing with everything else that has limitations.

No, your post stays the same and the forum engine just renders it differently depending on your status. If you're a newbie, it will render your post just as a text array, if you're junior (or copper), the engine will scrape your images and render them.
This happens when a page loads, not when you post your reply.

Hope thatll make this clearer.

Thanks for the answers guys! I'll just set it up so that it will appear like magic once I'm bestowed with the required rank!

Thanks, I was wondering that too. May I know what's the best way to post a picture. I heard that imgur is not very stable. Sometimes it get blocked? Is that true? Any other way to post picture?

Many thanks in advance!

This thread was from November, opening your own or replying to newer "img" threads is better.

A: Not at all, I always use IMGUR to host the images in my post and nothing was blocked.
Users reporting those are likely never used imgur before.
When copying your image link inside the [img][/img] tag, make sure that the one you copied has an image extension like .jpg, .png or .gif not the direct imgur picture link that ends with /hdjdbdhjd.

For Reference.
Anyone can test those post how they look if the images are displayed, even as a Newbie.
Simply go to the recent posts in your profile, there the images in your replies will load like you're a Junior Member.
