I have tried to build a proper .app for Bitmessage for a while, but I could never figure out how to properly bundle OpenSSL. So, I made this guide. But now it's obsolete as a great OS X build script is now included in Bitmessage!
You can download the DMG here: MEGA

Unlike traditional banking where clients have only a few account numbers, with Bitcoin people can create an unlimited number of accounts (addresses). This can be used to easily track payments, and it improves anonymity.

Does the mac version run without installing anything else
or do need to install additional stuff?

thanks.

No. This version has all the requirements (correct Python, OpenSSL, PyQt) bundled in.

Why is tis only available on their site and not on github or sorceforge?

https://bitmessage.org/forum/index.php/topic,1690.0.html
http://sourceforge.net/projects/bitmessagemac/files/

Do you think one can use this new all-in-one solution without any concerns?

Thanks!

Because there is no special code going into it. I have simply run Py2App and bundled all everything needed into a single .app. Personally, I use the python source fresh from Github.
But this is easier to get started with as you don't have to install anything prior to using it.

Ok, I downloaded it. Opened the dmg (contains only the app, no installer or anything else) and draged it to the program folder.
When I tried starting it a mac popup asked to accept incoming connections => ok
Program never started but crashed before anything else happend. Tried it several times...always crashed.

(Using MPB Pro / Snowleopard / all current updates).

So I am pretty annoyed...not only doesn't it work but now I am worried that there is yet another shit on my mac possibly compromising security.

 Embarrassed

Thanks for your help. But I'm gonna wait until a stable app will be available.
