Hello
I've went through the messages here but I didn't find my case..
So, what I did is installed the (I think) legit Electron Cash software from https://electroncash.org/
I put in my private BTC paper wallet key in the "sweep" menu.. and nothing much happened in Electron Cash
But a few seconds maybe a minute later I suddenly saw in the Electrum "watching only" wallet that my BTC balance changed to 0!!
A transaction had been done to an unknown (to me) BTC address.
Can anyone explain to me what had happened?  Huh
Like I said, I'm pretty sure I installed the correct Electron Cash software, so it shouldn't have stolen anything.
regards
Mike

Did you follow correctly the guide from electrum check it here https://electrum.org/bcc2.txt
If you follow carefully your bitcoin is in safe and you will split and get your bitcoin cash succesfully..  Let me ask if your bitcoin was save before the fork of bitcoin cash? If not you can't get any bitcoin cash..

Better to contact their support about your issue regarding to your bitcoin. Try this their social media https://twitter.com/electroncash?lang=en to contact them

mmmm when you did the procedure? Isn't it mandatory to use electron cash version 2.9.4 due the fork of bch?
I've read something like that on their site

Probably has not a lot to do with your choice of bitcoin/bitcoin cash wallet... and a lot to do with keyloggers/malware etc... Undecided

Whatever the cause, it is a good example of why people suggest moving BTC off of any private keys BEFORE attempting to claim the BCH or other fork coins from them... exposing your private key to an online environment puts coins at risk.

Do I understand correctly that in your opinion it was not the software that I used, but that someone monitored and copied my private key and initiated the stealing transaction outside from my computer? Would the details of the transfer on Blockchain help to diagnose what actually happened?

Correct. Electron Cash has been in use for months now... I'm not aware of ANY instances where people have had coins stolen due to something that a "legit" version of ElectronCash has done.

Any loss is from users having either installed a "fake" version... or having had malware/keyloggers or whatever on their computer... and their private keys/seeds were compromised.

Maybe try doing a Google search for the address that your coins were sent to... see it it pops up in any other threads regarding stolen coins.

I think that there are some porn sites, warez sites, or whatever sites kids are visiting these days that are installing malware on many computers. These malware looks for anything that resembles a private key and steals it or looks for a public key and replaces it.

That or your version of Windows didn't have proper updates installed similiar to the ransomeware hacks a few months back.

electrum version 2.8.3 (portable)
electron cash version 2.9.3

does this matter?

There was an issue with older electrum versions where they would mistakenly connect to bitcoin cash servers. However they wouldn't be able to sync with those servers since BCC uses a different transaction version or something. If you're seeing the transaction in your electrum wallet then it's probably a legit BTC tx. You could try connecting to a different server or looking up your address on blockchain.info just to make sure. It's a long shot. Sorry for your loss.
