It is a common myth that Bitcoin is ruled by a majority of miners. This is not true. Bitcoin miners "vote" on the ordering of transactions, but that's all they do. They can't vote to change the network rules.

Watching the last episode of Inside NEM the suggest was that even if you can't code but have a really good idea you should submit it and the organisers will try to pair you up with others that may have the coding skill but lack the creativity.

Worth a go? $30,000 in total prize money would come in very handy for many I'm sure

Great idea from NEM.
Still not only gets the name out, but gets people involved in getting to now NEM.
This is generating innovation from all over the place.
Decent amount of XEM to be received.

All university IT departments should be made aware of this. Would help to get the word out!

Yes, NEM's foray into Hackathon. Hope we can get something good out of this. In fact, this hackathon is not going to be just a competition. If a solution is  good, the winners could be candidates for NEM to support them and push them into the forefront and help them productize and commercialize their projects.

Really, this is not a hackathon per se.

If anyone is still pondering then don't just give it a go.

The NEM blockchain API is welled documented. It uses simple but power queries using GET and PUT to send and receive JSON response

Have a look at the documentation - https://bob.nem.ninja/docs/

Want some wrappers? Checkout Github - https://github.com/NemProject

Or if libraries are more you thing have a look at - https://nemlibrary.com/

Good luck and get hacking!

Lots going on in the NEM world at the moment yet still seems to fly under most people's radar. Looking forward to seeing what comes out of the competition, hopefully word gets around and they get lots of entries.

I hope so. Using NEM with the API’s is much fun and easy to adopt.

It is super easy. Just pick any $10m ICO being built on Ethereum and there is a 75% chance you can do that on NEM right now in a couple of weeks by yourself.
