I was going to use Mt Gox to turn my bitcoins into real money but it asks for government ID and a residence bill to validate the account. Are there any alternatives where I can get my bitcoins turned into money and deposited into my bank or paypal without this?

About bitinstant, if I am in the UK can I just put I am from the US and want it sent to my paypal, and then have paypal convert the money into GBP?

I would definitely prefer a service that cashes out straight to my bank rather than paypal, it would go a lot smoother. But it would have to be one that is very well trusted, and do any big ones aside from Mt Gox cash out in GBP?

Avoid the exchanges if you can. Do a trade on the forums / #bitcoin-otc / localbitcoins. The exchanges provide central points of failure (Bad with a capital B) and have fees that you won't need to pay if you trade at spot off-exchange.

There is a TON of alternatives, try BTC-e for starters.

Might try btc-e but it looks like there is no ideal exchange for GBP. I might just use highly trusted exchangers here.

It would be easier to tell if the put some sort of contact information on their website. Ah, you can see it if you log in. They list an address in England. ABOUT US BITSTAMP LTD. 5 Jupiter House Calleva Park, Aldermaston Reading Berkshire RG7 8NN United Kingdom

Best suggestion so far. Make sure to check the reputation of the person you're trading with - some users are impersonating reliable members....
