Why almost all people do crypto? For money.

The people coming into crypto strictly to make money are going to be the ones who kill it.

Did you notice they don't accept Bitcoin payments? For the kit pre-orders only available is Paypal or bank transfer. This is getting more ridiculous by a minute.

I was ready to order 3, assuming they would be priced 2500-3000 EUR per unit. But 4k? No. I'd rather wait and see what happens later this year. With the news or China silently suppressing mining, and facing this kind of ridiculous prices, just as well this may be a moment for a local (i.e. European) company to start manufacturing quality miners. Who knows. All you need is the idea and some funding. Manufacturing will be in China anyway.

Secondly, 11 TH/s at 3800 EUR is a joke. We could talk 16-20. Wasn't S9 launched with around 11 TH/s some 1.5 year ago?

Guys just to clarify:

  • This is a spot window batch with earliest availability (January Batch). Initially it was looking very bad to even get miners for consumers that early. Most miners will be available earliest in march !

The price shown on the website includes the legally binding EU-VAT tax, which doesn't apply to buyers outside of EU or companies with VAT-ID.

Also as EU-Distributor we are the ONLY distributor who has to provide full EU warranty that is 2 years of guarantee..

We hope to be able to offer the avalon 8 series cheaper once more miners are available on the market.

cheers,

Let's do the basic math here. A unit is 3800 EUR. Shipping another 100 EUR (within the EU).

A821 is rated 1200W. Let's have our hypothetical miners collocated. A standard price for collocation of a miner in central europe is around 40 EUR. A standard price per 1kWh is 0.14 EUR. A 1200W device will do 864 kWh in 30 days (a month).

So far that's 120 EUR for electricy and 40 EUR for the collocation. 160 EUR total per unit.

Let's say we get 2 units.
Costs: 160 x 2 = 320 EUR a month.
Profit at current difficulty of 1.93113645449e+12 at 22 TH/s and Bitcoin value of 14900, 1082 EUR a month.
Net profit: 1082 - 320 = 762 EUR a month.

ROI on current prices: 2x 3800 + 100 = 7700 EUR; 7700/762 = 10 months and 3 days. Assuming difficulty does not change.

This make little sense. Judging by how difficulty been rising recently, and how volatile and violent Bitcoin's been for past month, even full ROI is unlikely.

Correct me on anything.

For a small time private miner looking to acquire 1-5 units the most reasonable strategy is: Wait and see what happens on the market.

The most recent batch of antminer s9s went for 2300..... Why would anyone buy a 821 at this price?

If you compare it with bitmart.co.za, the Avalon 821 cost 53000 ZAR (3565 euro) and will be released March 31, 2018.
Now cryptouniverse sell it for 3800 euro and you will get it between 28th of january and 9th of february, almost 2 months earlier, therefore the price.
So you pay more, because as crypto universe told us, that this is a spot window batch with earliest availability (January Batch).

Yep, this is the first run.  I will replace my S7 with this guy (and sell the S7) so I'm not complaining about price, it's all with profits now anyway.

I would think because of the legally binding tax that he mentioned above.

"Legally binding tax" has nothing to do with accepting payments in Bitcoin. If you account for it right, it's all the same. I do accept payment in Bitcoin for real-life services and it works for me.

All I am hearing from you guys in this thread is "Baaa". You mean you're fine with paying 4k for 11Th/s since "it's all with profits now anyway" or "it's early hence the price"? That's ridiculous.

I sell my s7 at 1200 or so, means this price is only $2800.  Works for me!  Smiley

Can possibly sell the s9's at even higher profit and then just re-buy more A8's.  It works both ways on the mining as well as ASIC selling.

I was waiting for 821 since it was announced... BUT... I'm not buying in this insane price.

I go for GPU rigs... Let's drive crazy the price of the Gamer's graphics cards and face the incoming revolution! YEAHHH!  XDDD

Who want to invest in a device with 10 month ROI when you can get a much more fancy device, less noisy and with 1 - 2 months ROI ?

Not me!

I want ASICs back in 1K USD now!

Nobody mines with a single miner, dawg. Well, you do. But this also shouldn't be about some flee market shenanigans. Product at particular efficiency = appropriate price. That was very much the case with 741, taking into accordance quality. 821 is not that at all. Also see this post.

Nope, just replacing the one S7...everything else is S9 and now A8's.   Good luck to you, tell the landlord you need your bed changed in advance tonight.

rifleman74, despite being the fool he clearly is, makes an important point here. He proves all of this is going to work out just fine. Nothing's going to change. Canaan can ride the price up as they please. There will still be sheep to buy in on that, kissing their hands in gratitude. And waging forum flames in their defense. Nothing else's left to say.

Wait until Bitmain reprices their next batch.   It's not going to be cheap!   bitcoininsanity will be sleeping in a van down by the river in a few months at this rate.

https://slashdot.org/story/18/01/08/1713247/china-plans-to-kill-most-of-the-worlds-bitcoin-mining-operations

Quote
Leaked documents suggest the Chinese government plans an "orderly exit" for bitcoin mining operations in the coming weeks and months. In the documents, issued to the local offices of the internet-finance regulator, authorities were instructed to force mining operations out of business using measures linked to electricity pricing, land use, tax and environmental protection.

Looks to me that the most reasoneable is to wait and meanwhile avoid to be milked like a "baaaaaa" or a "muuuuuhh"

Had you been here longer than just today you might have noticed I never said anything
about buying at this price. Is it just a coincidence that you chose only this thread to troll on?
Doubtful. Your shillings are more "Baaa" than anything. Typical.

Welp... i wasn't expecting price to be this much... Honestly... ITS TO DAMN MUCH... Greediness goes long way.. We can cry as much as we can.. But with all these "new miners" it looks like Bitmain AGAIN stays on top... EVEN without any "new" miners.. I wasn't expecting this(nor speed in December, nor price in this current moment) Sad
