A flat-earther built a rocket and is going to try to launch himself in order to take pictures from "space" and prove that he is right:
https://www.yahoo.com/news/flat-earther-launch-himself-homemade-212500611.html

https://www.extremetech.com/extreme/259409-flat-earther-plans-homemade-manned-rocked-launch-coming-saturday

www.newsweek.com/earth-flat-rocket-launch-mad-mike-hughes-719367

https://www.forbes.com/sites/trevornace/2017/11/22/flat-earther-launch-rocket-prove-earth-flat/

I couldn't believe on this story, so I had to find more news sources to take it seriously.

There are pretty good chances that this remarkable movement who believes the Earth is flat is going to lose one of its members: not really because he is going to change his opinion after being able to reach space and see Earth, but because of his premature death.

I guess they don't know that they could just rent a ship and sail until they "drop out of Earth".

But, for the record, he isn't completely stupid, since he said “If you’re not scared to death [for trying this], you’re an idiot”.

But he is wrong: he is the living (unfortunately, probably, only until Saturday) proof that one can be scared to death for trying this and still be an idiot.

I guess the movement is going to have his first martyr.

Of course, they will be saying that he was blown out of the air by the evil conspirators who have been fooling us all.

Because we all [but not them] are the stupid ones.

The things people can believe or do just to try to show how [not] intelligent they are…

I'm tired of flat earth. Earth flat does not make sense, earth globe makes more sense and indeed the earth shaped globe. If the earth is flat, then there will be no time difference between countries with one another, here in the afternoon, there also noon. The time difference broke all flat earth theories.

But they are gaining a big following, and a lot of it because of the things posted in Bitcointalk. Soon they will have enough people to apply for minority status with Government, and get Government grants. This is what they are after... the money.

They should thank you for starting another topic about it, so the word spreads, and they grow in numbers. Dollar signs in their eyes. Maybe they will be able to purchase their own funny farm to live in, in the future.

I laughed out so much reading this story and while I was writing my post, that I couldn't resist posting it.

"In 2014, he launched himself in a rocket from a private property in Arizona, traveling 1,374 feet before a crash-landing that wasn’t very well aided by a hole-ridden parachute. The landing left Hughes out of action for three days."

Hehehe.

He is indeed determined to be a flat-earther martyr.

He was indeed a persistent person. He managed to became the first flat-earther martyr.

One has to respect someone who dies for his ideas. Too bad they were absurd ones.

"Daredevil Mike Hughes tragically passed away during a launch accident this past Saturday (Feb. 22)"

I can bet there are some of them writing that he was blown out of the sky by a missile or sabotage, because the evil conspirators who are fooling us all (but not them!) were afraid that he would find the "truth".

Yes, but he was a sociopath, refusing to believe that other people have senses.

He stated he wanted to prove "Once and for all" the shape of the planet.

Excuse me?  It's been proven many times.  Why should we listen to a nut job like that?

If you ignore everything that happened before you, you should expect people to ignore you.  Now let's forget about this idiot and let him fade away...

For those who don't realize it, 'flat earth' is a psychological operation with a very specific purpose.  Lazy people can use it when they are losing an argument about a real thing or when they need to divert attention.

Nobody I know who questions the corp/gov narrative on things like vaccines, global warming, fluoride, 5G, etc, 'believes in flat earth'.  In fact it is to rediculous to put any thought into.

But the association between 'flat earth' and other contrarian positions is a lie that has been repeated over and over again.  Quite deliberately.

If you see someone inject 'flat earth' into any conversation you can know that the person injecting it is either a promoter or a victim of this particular psy-op.

I simple don't engage in any discussion with flat-earthers, I just ignore them. But I love to laugh about their ideas.

Many people can't show evidence that they are wrong, but people understand that all the millions of persons who have the knowledge or that already made voyages around the world can't all be lying, keeping and taking to the grave this imaginary biggest secret and lie on the history of humankind.

It's not even their lack of trust on humankind, but instead their lack of basic common sense that makes me laugh out.

And I also think 99% of conspiracies theories are absurd.

But this doesn't mean that Governments don't lie, even elected ones.

For example, "Face masks are worthless" is a serious and irresponsible lie (contradicted by all doctors from countries where there are plenty of masks and serious journalists: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/mar/23/can-a-face-mask-protect-me-from-coronavirus-covid-19-myths-busted), "justified" by the current lack of masks to health personal who really need them.

...

This may be a little to complex for some people, but I'll simplify it as much as I can:

 - If 'Government A' says 'no facemasks necessary', and 'Government B' says 'facemasks are a good idea.' then one of them is wrong.

 - The best reconciliation for most people (so-called 'normies') to take 'my government is the one which is right because it is my government.'

The reason this is the 'best' form most people is that if they take the other side they have to contemplate that their government is capable of being wrong and allow for past and future things that the government says to be questionable.  This is very cognitively destabilizing for most people.

It is much more easier and more comforting to just have a trusted source that they can rely on without question.  Saves a lot of tiresome research to be cross-checking things all the time.

Also, a vast amount of money and effort has been expended to push people into a state of permanent childhood mentally.  The reason for this is that the government can then take the role of the parent.

The subsequent events confirmed that face masks are very useful. Even Fauci (that seems a competent professional) confessed he initially said that people shouldn't use them also because they were needed for health workers: https://www.msn.com/en-us/tv/news/dr-fauci-admits-feds-initially-misled-about-face-masks-wanted-to-make-sure-health-care-workers-had-enough/

But, indeed, evidence of their usefulness to protect non-infected from infected people is still less clear that their efficacy when used by infected people.

But the point is: trust reliable sources, mainly scientific ones. Many authors put their scientific reputation above their own life. It's what they are going to leave.

Democratic Governments information should be checked and not accepted at face value.

Flat-Earthers mistrust everyone, except some crazy dudes who believe in the same lunatic things.

There's probably a lot more overlap between 5G COVID towers and fluoride mind control than you might think, unfortunately. In fact, I like to think that people that who believed in those things needed something a bit more outlandish, so they went with the flat earth.
