Meh Arts Technica won't do any real damage or digging, they are on the BFL non-paying promotional early adopter payroll. Friends with benefits...

I can't really say it is an article yet..  seems more like his reporting notes and he just slapped them together and posted it (and overlinked, which is lazy..)

When you overlink that much why not just ask the reader to google their own research?

Not favourable, but lacking any depth to the research. Didn't tell us anything we didn't already know.

The report on the freebie Jalepeno was devoid of any substance, yet glowing.

I think this report just let's Arts stand a little closer to middle ground.

Still no excuse for not digging where it matters. Maybe they are hoping for a single sc.

Not sure what you are expecting. They aren't the FBI, seemed like they tried to get more info but were declined comment. Which is prob the most anyone could do without some kind of warrants for a private company.

At the very least by explaining the benefits of transparency via 'independent' third party press at this late stage in the game they may have coerced a more open hand.

I just don't believe the reporter would bite the hand that feeds. There was no incentive to delve deeper and every chance they permitted BFL a proofread prior to publishing as well.

There was just nothing we don't already know, which is surprising and a little pointless, considering they requested help from the community.

What has occurred with BFL does not make any sense, this was a prime opportunity to be frank.

You realize that most all manufacturers send out review units to blogs and magazines right? I see what you are trying to insinuate but I just don't see if from this particular article. It did not paint bfl in a good light at all.

You do realise there is absolutely no need to send out units to blogs and magazines right? I see what you are alluding to, but regardless of whether the magazine is bestowed with gifts or not, they would write an article on huge stories in Bitcoin and the ASIC race because it is newsworthy, exciting and involves large amounts of cash. What I'm insinuating is BFL needlessly sweetened those deals to each reporter/blogger by a couple of grand. Most haven't No one else has, or has had to, or for that matter will have to until after November...fact.

Its called advertising. if you haven't noticed bfl plasters google adsense and even here with their ads. You run Ads for brand awareness which hopefully translates to more sales. Pretty standard business 101, i mean the advertising business is a multibillion dollar industry... so no i don't realize that there's no need to send out review units. lol.

But, back to the topic, i think the article was fine. Listed most of what is known and what is not known which was the title of the article. like i said hard to press into dealings of a private company unless you get someone inside to squeal.

" According to incorporation documents filed in Wyoming, BF Labs Inc. has two listed directors: Chris Vleisides, a Kansas City photographer who takes photographs of the Kansas City Royals baseball team for a living, and an Iranian living in France named Nasser Ghosieri, who is also a “senior IT consultant” with Société Générale, a major French bank."

Or... maybe there's just nothing to find and BFL isn't some sinister black box that some people so desperately and pathetically want it to be?  Ever consider that option?

Some people so desperately want to find wrongdoing and maleficence somewhere, even where none exists, that they will believe anything. Any sort of rationality and intelligent thought was lost long ago.

The fact that super scammer, anti-semetic, racist like Bryan Micon is the best and most quoted person in the article should be indicative that there's not really anything sinister going on that isn't part of some mentally unbalanced persons tin foil hat conspiracy theory.

If you're searching these lines for a point, you've probably missed it.  There was never anything there in the first place.

I thought the article did a pretty good job of illustrating the opacity surrounding BFL.

BFL could not or would not confirm who actually owns the company.
A director of the company Ghosieri could not name all the founders of BFL.
Ghosieri has never even visited BFL.
Ghosieri refused to elaborate on the relationship of the Vleisides folks.
Ghosieri blamed Global Foundries for BFLs problems.
An actual ASIC engineer pinned BFLs problems on BFL's chip design.
The article mentioned that BFL set up a charity so it could donate to itself.

Overall, there were no eye openers. BFL won't talk. I guess we will have to wait until bankruptcy court to find out the details.  Grin

So why all the secrecy? Why not just answer some of the easy questions in the article?

Quote
Ghosieri also told Ars in a Skype interview that there are “under 10 owners,” but “I can’t really say what exact roles there are." And he could not or would not describe precisely what Chris and Sonny actually do for the company.

Who are the owners of BFL?

What do Chris and Sonny actually do?

Who owns the Bitcoin Development Fund?

What is its official status?

When are you going to donate 1000 BTC to actual charities?
