Mining in 2018!

Hi all.

Looking to set up my own rig in the new year. I was wondering what suggestions you have for this looking more long term. ie. 2018 and beyond. Say for a maximum budget of around €2000 what could i get and will it even be worth it further on down the line? I am looking to mine coins such as monero and z cash. However will the cards that are needed to mine them still be useful later on or does it all depend on how well each coin is doing individually as to whether you get success and profitability mining it?

If you get 1080ti you should still have a resale value to them. You should get around 700 sols a card on zcash.

1070 or 1080ti are good plug and play options that will give you some longevity and resale value. And yes, if you mine bunch on any coin and it craps out - you lose ... www.whattomine.com can give you some idea what kind of profit can you make with different types of GPU. This can also help you calculate how fast will you pay off your investment (RoI).

Mining zcash gives you better profit than monero for 1080ti GPU most of the time. If you are willing to take some risk, then you can always mine new coin, sometimes you can get 2X or 3X profit compared to what you see in whattomine.

If you plan on mining monero, you shoud buy AMD cards such as rx 570s 580s and vega as they are good in mining cryptonight algorithm. Zcash on the otherhand is best mined using nvidia cards, I would suggest buying 1070s or 1080s. You should invest on the best PSU like gold and platinum if you plan on longterm mining. By the way, ETH is doing good right now so you can consider nvidia cards more than AMDs.

Sorry, wrong. AMD cards are better at mining ETH (ethash algorithm). NVIDIA cards are better at ZCASH (equihash algorithm).

and then I will start to build the one amd rig with 6xvega 56

Do you believe that 8gb cards will be needed as early as 2018? I was not considering it.

According to me, mining in 2018 will continue to increase, it is because the predicted price of 1 bitcoin will continue to increase and can reach more than 120 million rupiah. Very interesting for new people to understand bitcoin.

With the latest version of Nicehash 1.8.1.5 (LEGACY) program it is not that important in terms of profitability what graphic card you choose(sure 1080 ti is great but RX Vega 56 costing cheaper offers you more profit mining Monero).

Even with GTX 1060 3GB I am making 23 Mhash in Ethereum and 20 Mhash in LBRY dual mining with the latest Claymore miner. For this I say that with 2000 Euro you can easily make a rig of 6 x 1060 3GB cards and make about 0.0012 btc daily with actual rate but I don't know in 2018.

I have searched the net but couldn't quite find what I was looking for... I am ready to do my homework and research

but I ask you, do you have good links/sources where I can read about mining equipment for home users.

Don´t wanna build big rig, just hobby mine on gaming PC. I was thinking of Monero or other Altcoin, no coins with ASIC activated.
Red that the 1080Ti is quite good, but that is just one part of the PC...

I am under the same opinion as you i mean if i build a decent pc myself that has a couple decent graphics cards but also has another use if mining kind of goes down hill that would be more appealing at least at the start anyway...

if i got vega and 1080ti would that be wise? i mean could i have one mining one coin and the other working on another... or is that a very wasteful way of mining?

IMHO... build around a Ryzen 1700X (if building with NEW parts) and put that on Cryptonight. You can get ~600 H/S from it with mild OC which beats many GPUs. This is what I used for my home office PC.

At current prices it will do over $50 / Month on Intense Coin... and if you decide to quit mining will have good value both as a useful PC and for re-sale vs. specialized mining boards and weak CPUs.

I actually prefer to build around HP Z400 systems for dedicated miners & upgrade to the X5660 CPU (around 20 bucks on e-bay)... still get ~230 H/S on Cryptonite (CPU pays for itself before power in 30 days):

Repair parts are also cheap (motherboard like 40 bucks, RAM dirt cheap, etc)... although I've never had one fail.
