INS Ecosystems https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2208591.0 has done an unsolicited airdrop of 777 INS Promo tokens to Ethereum wallet holders. The sole purpose of the tokens is to promote their ICO and give promo token holders the opportunity to get a 5% bonus, by sending them 1 token back. The tokens can be shared with your friends, effectively making you pay (gas) to do their marketing for them. In fact, if you sent all the remaining tokens, it would cost you $70 USD. The tokens cannot be used for anything else, cannot be traded, and will not be converted into INS after the ICO. They could just as easily have done bounty campaigns and provided affiliate links for bonuses.

I see this as a disturbing development in crypto - essentially being the cyrpto equivalent of Viagra email spamming. It seems to me, that if a company is willing to stoop to spamming people to promote it's ICO, the team should not be trusted. That aside, this approach should be condemned and stopped before it becomes a trend.

How do the rest of you feel about this? Am I the only one that sees this as cyrpto-spamming?

Spam is not equal to scam.
With so many ICOs popping up every day, bounty managers are becoming more and more creative. They are also in a competition with another bounty programs, so they are battling for every inch.

Yes, this is very creative and relatively cheap way to provoke interest to ICO.

For a cheap gas fee, they are gaining the attention of people with at least some money because they are sending promo tokens only to funded addresses. I think TNG did the same 1-2 months ago.

I like it as marketing method, it's clever and effective. Everybody now is looking what are those tokens they've got.

I also think that this can be a marketing step of the company. But I do not deny the danger of this phenomenon. Since many scams can use this to their advantage. I had a twofold opinion. In any case, we need to be more attentive.

Reputable companies don't spam. They may be overzealous on their email marketing, but there's a big difference between opt-in and spam. Show me one Fortune 500 company that spams users en-mass...They don't.

I have nothing against free airdrops of tokens that can be traded at a later date. In fact I'm happy to see those appear in my account, but this is a pure marketing ploy, with no other value.

If this becomes the norm, sifting through all the junk tied to your account will become a massive pain in the @$$. Imagine looking at Etherscan and browsing through hundreds of spam tokens trying to find the ones you actually signed-up, purchased, or can at least trade?

This isn't a brilliant marketing ploy, it's spam plain and simple, and should be viewed and treated the same way as email spam.

I've bought INS tokens almost a week ago, the transaction is on blockchain.info, I got a confirmation email from the INS platform, but still my balance shows zero coins... anybody else in the same situation?

That's not all, they took the ticker symbol INSP just to advertise their project with a useless vanity token. Now another startup that was planning to use that ticker can't use it anymore.

I certainly don't agree to this idea. INS Ecosystem has a very experienced and well-known team.
The ICO period is ongoing. They will be successful!

That's subjective. I mean, where does "just a market strategy" end and "advertising as offensive or bad taste" begin? In my opinion claiming the INSP ticker symbol for the sole purpose of advertising instead of using the ticker symbol for a business is "just greedy and gratuitous".

Too late for it to be condemned as it is nearing its hardcap already (12% remaining, last time I saw).  Also, there's nothing wrong with ico spamming, it's part of the advertisment. Besides, this ico is less likely to be a scam;,they have a very professional and transparent team.

You know there are rules against spam in the advertising world? You can sue companies for wasting your time with spam in your e-mail box or calling you on the phone, and you would win too. So no, spam is not just part of advertising.

Yes it is a part of their advertisement, I also notice Ins in social media always updated of their project. For now I cannot say that Ins is scam. Let's see after the Ico of Ins if they will really developed this project and be listed instant in other exchange.

INS has one of the biggest marketing campaigns I have  ever seen in ICO to this date.
It is also very professionally done and I do no think that they are a Scam.

I can see a lot of signature bounty hunters wearing the avatar of this project, so I think it is very hot because they can give a lot to the bouty hunters. I do not think this is a signal of scam.
