Because there are no decimals. 1 IOTA is the smallest unit and 1 MIOTA (what you buy on exchanges) is 1,000,000 IOTA. Make sense?

Probably, with the nice partnership they got and the technology which is still in development, it could become more popular. The price could increase a lot also. It's a good investment

the Bosch group is now partner of IOTA, the made an big iinvestment in IOTA. If someone didnt know about Bosch, its one of germanys oldest and most important high tech player in all parts of industry, robots, automotiv. And i said german company, not US or chinese or anything else...:

IOTA had a great run and got beyond our expectations in short term. After reaching around $5 it started to stall but i'm very optimistic about IOTA's future and i believe it's till in very low price considering it's bright future. If you really want to buy IOTA you can wait a bit so it will go down around $3 and then you can buy some big amounts and make profit in long term.

What you say is that we have 2.779.530.283 MIOTA to buy on exchanges, right?
1 IOTA isnt worth to talk about imo if you cant buy it.
So we have 2 Billion, 779 Million + coins ---- compared to 16.753.075 BTC  for example?

The base unit of IOTA matters as machines and microtransactions are the intended use. If you look at the data marketplace you'll see that most sensor data is sold in the hundreds of IOTA, not millions. If you bought on an exchange and purchased data, your MIOTA would be broken in down to the base unit of IOTA.

If you are only hodling as an investment and have no plans on using your IOTA for buying data or m2m--yes, you are trading in your listed amounts in millions of IOTA (MIOTA)--though there may come a time when exchanges trade it in smaller bundles of 100,000..10,000...1,000...100..10, so it's better to understand this distinction now, rather then be confused if a change occurs.

IOTA has around 100 times more available coins than BTC for example, for what reason??


The reason is because the base unit can't be broken down into decimals, so you need more coins for mass usage.

I believe they don't use decimals because it decreases the computational load on machines, but I'm not certain of that answer as I'm still learning how everything works and why they've made certain decisions.

EDIT: Apparently decimals do not work well with a ternary computation, which is what Iota uses.

If the total supply will be increased (look at other answers to see why they would be increased), all holdings would be multiplied by a number that results in the total supply still being an ideal number for ternary computing.
Ideal for ternary/trinary computing
Ternary computing uses a number system that has only 3 different digits [0,1,2] often also denoted as [-1,0,+1] (balanced ternary) or just [-,0,+].
It's just like the decimal system uses 10 different digits [0,1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9] and the binary system uses 2 different digits [0,1]
Ternary ideal numbers are consisting of only the digit with the highes value 2
e.g. 222 222 222
Furthermore they should probably have a length that is divisible by 3 or even a number that has a cubic root of 3 or multiple of 3 because that's how ternary hardware would be built. (Similar to binary hardware which stores data in bytes = 8 bits)

People thought that Monero was too high @ $4 and $40--same applies to all of the better coins. I would evaluate on potential market, rather than versus other cryptocurrencies current market cap. IOT is estimated at Trillions, not Billions, so that gives you some perspective on how much this can move.

i totally agree with this, IOTA will rise in 2018, maybe 15$ - 20$ is possible!

Is it possible considering its market supply of almost 3B? Am afraid that I am dragging my legs from investing in it at its current price or any price above  $1. If it can make it to $10 and above in 2018 I think that will be a good investment.

That's my thinking too. I feel it can still come down to less than a dollar value. But in this market it is very hard to predict accurately. We may be right or wrong. Who knows whether it will come down or keep going high. Time will tell.

You got a valid point there. I think maximum supply, total market supply and circulating supply may not be good predictors for the future and maximum price of a coin as many coins have proven such as Monero, Ripple and others. The same argument that is currently hitting the cryptospace on the future price of Electroneum.

With the announcement that iota has established cooperation with microsoft it can be assured that iota future will be very bright.
in my opinion, it's not too late to fly with this token. I've bought when the price of this token 3 $ and I just thought to sell it when the price reaches 8-10 $

After the last deal with bosch I was really shocked in the proper meaning of the word. iota succeeded in regretting me for the negative comments I made about it. iota is now separated from the other coins and moved into a very different position. I am thinking to invest in iota too.
