Where are you come from? The average price for each ethereum token in this time was around $440 that means there is a lot of gap with your price. may be you are seeing it on the speculation thread.
I will believe at the end of the 2018 each ethereum will be equal with the bitcoin cash price due to the POS system.

Sorry, but why can this POS system make the price of ethereum that high? I can only see one reason like, because of this POS system, more people wiould like to hold this altcoin making the price to rise. But if that's so, it should be happening now.

Ethereum may reach $1000 by next year, definitely not January. Maybe mid next year. Reason? Other Ethereum-like platforms are developing fast. Waves is one which I see as a strong contender with ethereum. With the rapid increase in Waves' development, Ethereum will have to watch it's back.
Other platforms are there also like neo, nem, etc.

ETH price can reach $1000 but not by jan 2018. ETH have really bright future compared to other alts so investing in ETH can be wise decision.

The question in my mind is can ETH compete with other altcoins.  Everyone seems to release their own coins - so where/how does ETH play in to the picture...

Well a large majority of them use ethereums platform and blockchain to launch and run their coins so that's how eth fits in. The more ERC20 coins the better for ethereum and there doesn't seem to be any slowdown in the number of those coins.

I hope ethereum price will reach $1000 in mid 2018.the ethereum price increases slowly and constantly but for the last two days price falls little bit maybe be due to the impact of bitcoin price but it started to increase again.I predict that 2018 will be the year for ehthereum so I want to invest on ETH when the price is cheaper.

Now ETH price - 445$. Even though the price of Ethereum has already appreciated significantly in 2017, there is still significant upside from current levels.
April 2017  (48$)  -  1 December 2017  (445$)  grew 9 times.

I guess people are so surprised to learn the price of crypto is so unsteady now. You see it at $440 in the news, by the time you open your mobile phone at home to post on this forum it has jumped or fallen 15% and you never knew. Which is why these types of threads are so futile in the end. Will it reach 1k in Jan? Why not 5k? Why not 10k? John McAfee will eat his dick if Bitcoin isn't 1 million in 2020, so why not, right?

And agree about PoS, it should happen now if the price will pump because of it. But it hasn't... not more than any other crypto anyway.

There is a possibility that we may see ethereum's price go up in the future, it may not reach crazy numbers like bitcoin but defiently it is on the right track, for me ethereum has been the best alternative cryptocurrency after bitcoin, not only does ethereum has started rising up so it makes for a good investment in the future, but it has some really new ideas to bring to the table, not like the other altcoins that are just trying to be a copy of bitcoin, ethereum allows project developers and people with ideas to create thier own tokens and to sell them to get kickstarters on thier project, and this idea has been so popular that this forum has been blowing up with ICO starting up and airdrops, and this lead to the number using etherum rising up wich is starting to affezct the price, so ethereum has a bright future ahead of it.

With the stabilizing price of bitcoin, etherium has begun rising in value. Ofcourse in terms of USD it had risen because of the rise in value of bitcoin, but now the ethbtc pair is also looking great and i think the next leg has begun.

sooner or later eth will reach $1000. That Ico hype about ethereum is more or less over and it starts too rise its price because of its real tech.

It is not possible to reach that much rate so soon. ETH is still at 500 USD currently and to drive it all upto 1K is like putting the equal amount of market capitalism into it which it is having currently. Now you think whether it will be possible to catch up that much prices?

May be the rate will stretch upto 600USD but not more than that yet. But again I always add that crypto market is very very uncertain and if Mr. Vitalik thought then he could just drive this coin upto the moon and behind the bitcoin. So we can't say surely what will happen. But on the matter of fact happening of this has got little chance for now.

May be we can expect that much rate in next 8-10 months or so. But the time will tell us whole story whether it is going to increase or not.
