No that was false. It was some stock promotor on Twitter that kept saying it. He said it in the past also and was wrong on each account. Amazon wouldn't be bad if they went with a merchant like Coinbase to do the processing for them. However what percentage of payments will be in Bitcoin? Probably less than 0.1% and not worth it to them.

with BTC being very volatile even the merchants that have had the idea to turn on their btc acceptance will simply hold off until they dont risk having 1000 usd drop off their investment in a single day

It's not fair to compare retail vs airline... Walmart vs British Airways
I would bet on Argos or Amazon. If there is a lay option, I would LAY Apple and may be McD. McD are too small transaction vs current fees.

... There is a site called Betway Group and there are bets underway which retailers are most likely to offer Bitcoin as a merchant until the end of 2018. Here are their odds predictions at the moment.
... Whats everyone's take on this?
The juice/vig (house advantage) of the bookmaker is way too high for obscure bets like this. You are essentially burning money by betting on any of these bets. Even if you would have some kind of insider information you probably could only bet like 10 pounds on a bet like this. The odds are bad, the betting limits are low, which makes this a horrible bet. If anyone wants to bet on this you should set up a market at Fairlay where you would be able to get much better odds and also more liquidity.

In my opinion I think that Apple and Amazon odds are way too high. I also think Mcdonalds at 1/2 odds is very high considering their meals are cheap and due to bitcoin miner fees it would end up costing the meal almost double. Whats everyone's take on this?
McDonalds is already rumored to start accepting payments in 2018 same as Amazon. The problem with Amazon is that their US branch does it their own way and is probably going to be accepting Bitcoin, while the EU branches like Amazon.de and .fr might not be so eager to do it. Right now you can buy a .com gift card without problems and .de or.fr aren't available. .com gift cards don't work anywhere else, although you can log in to.com with your credentials from EU. That's weird if you ask me.

They have been basically spreading lies saying McDonalds will accept Bitcoin Cash and not Bitcoin because Bitcoin fees are way too high for a Big Mac. It was started by some Roger Ver shill and doesn't have any actual credibility from any Mcdonalds executives.

I don't really see any of these companies besides Amazon taking the leap. Apple SHOULD, but since they can't control the currency, they'll be super hesitant to dive in.

As long as there nothing to make sure that BTC won't dip to crazy lows, then big companies like Apple and Amazon won't risk their successful business using BTC!

Yes, amazon are going to accept bitcoin soon but of course nowadaya there are many regulations for bitcoin due to its high price, may be this is the reason why amazon pending their acceptance. Or may be amazon are still build their platform to make sure everyone can't cheat on them, there is so many reasons why they are pending this And btw OP what is this about? Is this the way to bet? And is that an odds? How do you calculate it anyway?

Probably it could happen when more people use bitcoins and the price stabilizes.

an interesting find, usually the bookies provide good analysis as they are risking their money but the chances are none of them would accept BTC by the end of 2018 IMHO,the best chances have: Argos Easyjet Amazon
McDonalds should not even bother,as their orders are usually under 10$,especially in some countries other than the US and Canada accepting bitcoins would be more of a headache than a move forward on the other hand,Argos is the one that could benefit the most along with Amazon Esyjet is righ there too

Wow this is a nice bet but i am not sure what company of those listed will be the one. I know i read few months ago that Amazon was buying bitcoin websites. Now i am not sure if they did that because Amazon wanted to control them or if Amazon is going to accept bitcoin. If they do accept bitcoin it would be a major victory i think .

Yes I remember that but those domain names mean nothing, they basically buy domains like amazonbtc or amazoneth because they don't want some scammer to buy those domains and scam people. Many companies do this actually. Especially since domain names are dirt cheap these days and you basically use it as a tax write-off. I actually listed to amazons earnings call and waited for the bitcoin annocement, and it never came. Wasn't surprised.

It is possible to argue for a long time about whether large retail corporations will start taking bitcoin or not. But all these disputes are premature. The main problem (not solved at the moment) is the cost and time of payment. We must admit that work is being done in this direction. Only yesterday, there were good news on LN. And only after the launch of LN, retail companies will begin to consider

I believe, that's so difficult to happen, because of fee cost. Ok BTC is so volatile, but the fee infeasible for merchant. But anything can change if the fee will changed.
