BitCatch - an automated bitcoin pyramid game. Round #7 starts next friday, round #4 is still running with the jackpot about 7 BTC, check it at bitcat.ch!!! This Friday Bitcatch is gonna rock again, new round starts July 22 at 20:00 (8pm) UTC ends at Sunday at 20:00 (8pm) UTC. New round starts with ratio 1.2 and 5% from each bet will go to the jackpot. The jackpot will be send to address with largest total value of bitcoins deposited in second day of the game, this means the more you bet in the second day then higher you chances to win jackpot. The site will show live stats and you'll be to able see who might win jackpot and make your bets based on that info. In order to win the jackpot in a second day you better use one receiving address for all your bets, because summation will be made by addresses, i.e if you will use several receiving addresses then they will appear as... several receiving addresses? each one with different sum of bitcoins. Rules may change slightly before Friday. Original post: _____________________________________________________________________ What differs BitCatch from others? First off all it is fully automated game, this means that all payments and game mechanics processed without operator. Also, it allows you to use any kind of Bitcoin clients to send the payments, you can even send payments from exchanges and pools. To play the game just enter your address for receiving payouts and it will generate one-off bitcoin address that you should use to send money to. If there is enough money in the pot you will be immediately paid out with your Bitcoins So, in short, the main features are: - Fully automated game logic and payouts
- You can send BTCs from whatever you want,
even directly from exchanges and pools - Multiple rounds with different ratio
Check it now! BitCat.ch

What happens to the remaining pot at the end of the round? What if there is only 1 player, in a whole round?

I've implemented it in a way that what happens with pot can differ from round to round depending on a round type, there could be 'last looser' rounds, rounds when pot evenly divided among the players. You could also suggest another way of what should be done with pot. The first round is 'last looser', all remaining pot goes to the player who made last deposit (Added this to fisrt post). If there is only one player then he will receive his money back of course.

Other than that, it's quite fun!

I think 2 would be more then enough for now, if you put too many, there wouldn't be enough people to keep all the games going.
By the way, if you're playing BitCatch, be sure to put it on your sig. This will keep new people coming in which will keep the game alive.

Yea I made a few cents from this over the last few days too. Just wondering though where or at what point does it fall apart? Imo the organisers not giving away free money? Somebody gonna get raped.. It falls apart when no new "bets" are placed, just like any other pyramid game. As long as new bets come in, older bets get paid. No new bets = collapse. What I like about this implementation is the low ratio - 1.2x as opposed to 2x or 3x, like the other pyramid games have. That makes it easier for people to get paid, and contributes to the chances of it running for a long time. I don't see any reason that this game can't continue for a long time. It may speed up or slow down, but as long as people keep playing, it will be fine. The operator has an incentive to be open, honest and transparent in his dealings. I assume once it's out of "alpha" on July 5th, he'll start to take a % as a fee. So it's all volume for him then. The more people play, and the longer it runs, the more BTC he makes.

I think I'm having an issue too... I had a transaction for 1.0000111 (plus the .0005 fee I paid) that I sent to the game at 143fUhTKJWJP3cZxS3zdZitAmeEyRSGn2u but it isn't showing up on bitcat.ch (unless I am confused, but I'm not seeing it). I have 5 confirmations on my client. I had one that showed up in the "unconfirmed" but never in the confirmed. MtRev did, too. He did say this was "Alpha", so as long he makes good on his bug, all is forgiven from me. I'm not playing again until he does, tho. sucks, I was looking forward to playing all day today. I had 2 go through earlier, got paid, no problems.

It is correct, do the math. if you sum all value in Deposit row and sum all value that have been Paided in Expected row+1 you will see that Expected is higher than Deposit. That means the game is running correctly

Looks correct. The 6 btc went towards paying off the earlier people, there's that much of a btc gap now. Add up every deposit, then subtract all the people paid so far and you will have less BTC than required to pay off the next person.

I'm too hungover to do the math, so I'll just take your word for it.

I'm sorry, but i'm really confused, unless the rules changed from yesterday, he should had been paid already along with many of the other people.
There more then enough to fill up the spots for the people above to get paid at 1.2 ratio.
Also, noticed no one got paid since the crash yesterday, shouldn't someone had to been paid by now? There clearly more then enough people going in.

Yes, everyone got paid YESTERDAY before the crash, but after the site back up, no one got paid since. Yesterday, everyone was live and automated, there wasn't more then a 5 min delay. The whole day today, no one got paid. EDIT -- i please ignore I was wrong

You would be correct if that was the start of the game. However, the game has been running, and as such there has been more and more of a gap growing. Try doing the math one deposit at a time and you'll see.
And no, I was paid this morning, long after the site went up. I was paid off by the person that deposited the 6 BTC.
Edit: Think of it this way, when the first person with the 1.0BTC deposited their money, they were not the next in line to get paid, correct? There were people behind him that had yet to receive payment due to the game running so long. That means the 2.0 BTC went towards paying off the people before him.

You send in your money, people send in money after in order to pay you back plus the 20% extra. That 20% extra begins adding up over time, meaning it takes longer for someone to get paid out. Eventually some people will not get paid back because the game ends. This is the type of thing Bernie Madoff did, except he scammed people into it without telling them what was going on.

As far as gambling goes, this one in particular is quite good. I've doubled my money on the first round by putting money in several times. You can still lose, but over half of the players are winners with 20%.

Ok, I'm going to start new round, with low fee and limits, but to keep game more interesting I'm planing to make limits progressive i.e. game starts with lower bound of 0.01 BTC and upper bound of 0.5 BTC and eventually upper limit would rise to 1, then to 1.5 and at the end to 2 or 3 BTC. If you send more than max value, your money will be returned.

Shouldn't it have rounds that end? According the website, this current game won't ever end. Maybe not 5 day periods, but this way it'll eventually just shut down.
Within a little while, the gap between the paid and the waiting will become too big as it does with all pyramid schemes and the site will crawl to a standstill, which is kind of a shame considering the work that's been put into it.
Am I missing something?

RE: getting paid
I see a few people might be unclear on exactly how this works.
You get paid when enough bets have been made by people after you to pay out to you.
So, person 1 bets .5, to get paid .6. the pot is now .5 person 2 bets .5, the pot is now 1.0 so person1 gets paid .6, the pot is now .4 person 3 bets .5, the pot is now .9, so person 2 gets paid .6. The pot is now .3 etc...
you can see how it will take longer and longer to get paid. eventually, someone (or many someones) gets stuck not paid, because no one new is betting.
That's why it's called gambling. You might lose.
However, if we keep new people coming in, we'll all get paid.

Not really, this will just delay the inevitable. The longer it goes on, the more difficult it will become to keep the game going, and this difficulty will go up exponentially. Unless we have round ends, bitcat.ch will slow to a stop. An idea I think would be nice is if instead of at the end, all of the current pot going to the last person to put a transaction in, it could all be split among those who had not yet been paid out. Instead of all the last payers losing everything, and having people rushing to get in the last transaction so they'd get the biggest payout of all, everyone who hadn't gotten their payout would at least get something back, even if it wasn't the amount they put in. (FYI, not saying this from a sore loser perspective, so far I've never lost.)

the advantage to "last in gets paid", especially with a minimum bet, is that some more people come in at the end, instead of the round slowly grinding to a halt
But the split idea has merit, also. better some stop loss than lose it all.

But the split idea has merit, also. better some stop loss than lose it all.
Good point, I'm divided now. They do both have their benefits.

I like the limits, it keeps things moving, but I also wouldn't mind a higher stakes table/round at some point. You know, for the high rollers.

as an earlier post mentioned, you can make as many .5 BTC bets in a row as you like.
With less risk... if you pay 5 btc in one hit but the pot only ever reaches 5.99 on your turn, you get nothing. But if instead you had played 0.5 btc 10 times, you'd get 9 of them paid out. Edit: Where the risk is higher with this strategy is getting all 10 of your plays submitted before other players... at least with one big play it's easier to race.

I agree with the smaller amounts. It allows the game to keep moving. Large bets stop people from playing as they worry about the cutoff time.

Small or large, it does the same thing. Whats the difference of 100 people puts in 0.5 BTC vs. 1 person putting in 50.0 BTC? They both equal to the same amount in the pool.

because this pool is so transparent, people see the big bet and get scared off, afraid they won't get paid. That the big bet will clog up the pool. However, a long list of unpaid's is also "scary". Not as much, I dont think, but that's a personal opinion.

If someone were allowed to place 50 BTC in one hit, and you were visiting the site at the same time as them, then if they get in just ahead of you, you'd have to wait for 60 BTC to get paid out before you get anything. On the other hand, if there were a bet limit of say 0.5 BTC and you were visiting the site at the same time as one hundred other people, then you have more chance of racing to get in ahead of them.

Someone said earlier having the last player win the pot. I like this idea, but instead of the last player, how about the last 5 players.
And instead of a set time for it to end, how about 12 hours no deposits, then it ends.

He should have a new round start every day at the time this one did. That's about an hour after I get to work. I would make bank hitting it at the start every day!
seriously, tho, someone told me it should have a random end time, and not tell us what that end time is until 5 minutes to go. Now, that's gambling!

Seems to be up, "Round 2" link is completely broken though (500 internal error)
Not sure if I want to join this late into the game considering there are about 10-20 unpaid deposits into the game, half of which are "large" 2.0 pots, gonna be a while before it'll get to me before tomorrow
EDIT: Down again... this service seems pretty unreliable

No offense but that looks really sketchy. Not to mention zero transparency plus a zero refund policy on top of the fee you are already charging, plus the fact that you pretty much decide the end at will, keeping the btc in your complete control No thanks!

I'm not bashing on your script, just don't like the idea of thead hiJacking. If I don't like your game, I just won't play it, that's all. But my comment about using a free hosting, it was just a suggestion to use a real paid server for many reasons.
Anyway, I wonder when Xyu is going to come back on. =[

The script crashes daily, from what I can tell at least. Round one was beta, just a test run with no fees. Round two (this current round) had some new features, so I guess it's still not running correctly.
However, the game Op did refund us for round one when the script just hung there, so I think it's safe to assume he will add back on the missing amount of time or he would refund us as he did in the past. Normally he comes on daily, but for some reason he didn't today.

You should probably update the original post. Even though the limits are on the site, the person who just put 5 btc in might have been in the mindset of round 1 after reading the op.

If someone wonders why is it all the first entries appeared in the same time that's because it the time when transaction appeared in the first block.

The bet limit is also 4x higher, meaning there are 2-4x less transactions since many people are placing multiple bets. It's probably about the same, just less redundant bets.

Payout is as soon as it's available. Your receiving address that you input will be next to your deposit in the list. As soon as there is enough money in the pot, you get paid out, so you just have to wait until you're the next in line.

find yourself on the list, by your receiving address. Then you can estimate how many more people need to enter for you to get paid.

If it's been 48 hours you likely played in the last round. Each round will end at the time indicated on the website. Anyone not paid out by the end of the round will not be paid out at all.

Hmm I wonder...
How long does it take to get a payout usually? It appears as if there's enough to fill my 1.2 btc payout ahead of me but it still says I'm unpaid. I wonder if it only does payout if I have confirmations on my end of the client, or maybe the script only does payout at X time during the day?

Someone thought the same earlier in the thread. Basically the way it works is people deposit money, then get paid out 1.2 times the amount they put in. So because of this, if someone deposits 1 BTC, then you deposit 1 BTC, they get paid out their 1.2 BTC but now there is only .8 BTC left in the pot. Over time this gap grows larger, so the people in front of you are simply paying off that larger debt. On a larger scale, imagine a total of 100 BTC has been deposited, that means there will be 20 BTC worth of deposits that are unpaid.
This is why it's a pyramid scheme/gamble, there is no way everyone can get paid out and there's going to be some losers in the end. Bernie Madoff was discovered because it went on long enough that the gap was billions of dollars large, we're just dealing with a few BTC.
If you want to figure out how much is left before you get paid you can do it the quick way or the long way:
Long way: Sum up all the deposits, then subtract the paid amounts, then subtract the 3% fee from each deposit (easy to do with spreadsheets). This will leave you with the current amount left in the pool. Then you can use that to subtract from the total BTC left before you're paid out to get the exact amount.
Short way: Assume the pot is 0. Add up all unpaid deposits up to and including your own. This is a rough estimate of how much before you're paid.

Actually I think a better way is to check how long it took for the last winnings to be paid out (difference between time bitcoin was put in and the time winnings were paid out). For example the current last payment (to 1LYQigFJFWCamaJiPeSQotAUHxVpgC8AB6) took about 18 hours. So this will probably be the minimum time you will need to get your winnings, probably longer. The estimated duration grows exponentially until it is longer than the time left in the game. At which point you shouldn't play anymore.

Except more and more people keep depositing into this, yet the last paid person has been the same for 24 hours or so. No one is getting payouts. I doubt it takes 30+ people, of which many are putting in 2+ BTC into this, to pay off one guy who is expected to get 2.4 BTC when everyone else behind him is already paid. AKA he is "next in line"... and has been for well over a day now. Still hasn't gotten a payout, which makes me think that this thing only pays when the owner decides it to.

How hasn't the pot reached 2.8 BTC when there are dozens of people after him that have put in the same amount? That doesn't make any logical sense. There aren't any payouts happening as far as I can see, assuming the last person who was paid made the pot go back down to zero as a worst case scenario (since it obviously can't be negative).
Basically: I don't understand how the "next in line" is still waiting for the pot to reach 2.8 BTC when there are dozens of people who have put into the pot after him that more than fill the 2.8 requirement.

I'm still not understanding how the total deposits are at 222 BTC but yet according to your math there is 216 paid when there is clearly more than 6 BTC unpaid. Unless the total paid in your chart = the estimate, after fees.
As such I don't see how the pot is at 2.77 BTC with many people who have desposited into it since the last payout.

There is 222 total deposited. The operator takes a 3% fee, so after fees there is 216 deposited that can be used to pay people out. Of that, about 213 has been paid out, leaving 2.75 in the pot. Where it seems you're getting confused is the same place someone was earlier in this thread by assuming the game started with the last person that was paid out. Lets start a fake game with 0% fees. Deposit | Paid | 10 | 12 | 10 | 12 | 10 | 12 | 2 | 2.4 | 2 | 2.4 | 2 | 2.4 | 2 | 2.4 | 2 | | 2 | | 2 | | 2 | |
According to you there is more than enough to pay the next person off, but in reality there is less. This is because when a deposit is paid out, that much comes out PLUS another 20%! In order to get paid out, someone has to add that extra amount. BUT, this extra 20% "debt" keeps adding up as more deposits come in. So even though someone has been paid out, that debt still exists. In the example given, when the second person deposits their 10 BTC, there is 8 BTC left in the pot, NOT 10BTC. So now someone has to put in 4 BTC just to pay him out. For the third person, there is only 6 BTC left in the pot. Over time that debt gets larger and larger to the point where the later players may not even pay someone out anymore. Hopefully this clears it up a bit more.

So the game is at the point now that because so many people have deposited, it's extremely unlikely that someone who joins now will get paid out? Just saying based on the fact it seems to be taking a full 24 hours to pay off one guy who despoited 2.4 BTC with this many people playing at this stage in the game.

Also, I think its a bad idea to have 2 games running at once.

It wasn't spontaneous decision to start round #4 before round #3 ends, earlier (on page 14) I said that I'm going to start new round in Sunday, but I even waited another two days and started it on Tuesday, so I don't understand why you complain about 'army' of people unpaid, this is pyramid game and eventually it goes slower and slower and there always will be army of unpaid people.

Disregard, looks like the order of payout for payments that got through on Jul 13 02:42:11 got shuffled around for some reason. Some payouts stayed at the same place before and after a refresh, thus the confusion. Is there a problem with payouts? Payments underneath the red line were made after payouts reached the level they are currently at (the 545c pay hash). Considering that that is 4.82 bitcoins, shouldn't payouts have progressed?

No, I'm not referring to Round 4, I'm referring to Round 3. Round 3 does not have a jackpot, and I'm taking into account the 3% fee. Payouts have always been immediate after a deposit.
Edit: And there it goes with a newer bet, must have been very close.

Ok guys, have a little announcement for you This Friday Bitcatch is gonna rock again, new round starts July 22 at 20:00 (8pm) UTC ends at Sunday at 20:00 (8pm) UTC. New round starts with ratio 1.2 and 5% from each bet will go to the jackpot. The jackpot will be send to address with largest total value of bitcoins deposited in second day of the game, this means the more you bet in the second day then higher you chances to win jackpot. The site will show live stats and you'll be able to see who might win jackpot and make your bets based on that info. Rules may change slightly before Friday.

Do funds need to clear 2 confirms by sunday 20:00? Do you expect a 5,000 btc deposit with 1 minute to go?

Round 4 will end, the jackpot is keeping it going but the jackpot just makes it like penny auctions IMO, and penny auctions have to end at some point. The gap is too enormous, unless it goes on for much much longer I don't think anyone putting money in now is seriously considering getting their money back, they're just trying to "bid" on the jackpot. Eventually the interested bidders will give up (can't bid 0.3 too many times without your expenses being more than the jackpot itself), and one will win.

I entered my whole wallet(1.0705BTC, not much but it's what i've got) But it's due to my own ignorance. >.< *shame* BTW I'm getting the "Bad Gateway" error. Anyone else getting this? Just when I really need entries to maybe make my money back before tomorow. Oh the feeling of hopelessness...

Hey, one of my entries didn't show up in unconfirmed entries. It was entry number 2 out of 4 with the address 18tk4h9mVbQj2m2wnRzc87jtoenrsgdCSu and was for 0.5. Should I be worried because the other 3 entries before and after showed up.
edit: for now, now 2 entries seem to have disappeared when everything moved from confirmations and stuff.Resolved! Thanks!

You said the jackpot goes out to the person that puts the most in on the second day. When does the second day start? Is it 00:00:00 UTC time, or is it 20:00:00, aka 24 hours after it started?

On the bright side I still have about 3 BTC, which is what I had before I started playing bitcatch. Earning 20BTC was fun, good to know it's getting circulated around

The max always starts at .5 to give those with less coins a more likely shot at getting in early. It's raised as the game goes on.

Oh guys, Oh guys, I was getting to pay everyone who have missed deposits and at the same time I had fixed bug and deployed new code. I was so stupid that instead of paying all entries back, now all missed entries are in game, but, because they were processed long after there already been all other deposits, some of the missed deposit didn't get paid

All except 1 of my deposits have now been payed out. The remaining one is now 7th in line to be paid. It is still early in the game, so I'm glad the deposits were added to the game instead of being returned. Edit: WTF! It's gone again. It was 7th in line to get paid out and now it has disappeared again! The address is 12Fz925or3w2s67BTL2sJEVHDaNmqCM1gD Edit2: Never mind. It's back again. 4th in line now

Looks like the activity has increased, so my guess is any missed deposits will get paid out. My last two unpaid ones will be paid after the next block

What I love most about this game is, that it pays even when errors occur.
But it would have been better to announce the new round in a seperate thread. That would have attracted even more people I guess.

I sure hope this game gets fixed for next round. This round has been a real mess. Deposits have been payed out in reverse order and unpaid ones keep disappearing and reappearing.

I just memorize the hour difference between my timezone and GMT/UTC. Don't forget to account for any daylight savings shifts if your country has such a thing.

These transactions confirmed after the game was over, but they actually were made before the end of the round that's what i said.... anyway, i think it would be fun to do a 24 hour game with the same format is the weekend one. There was pretty much a lull after the first day, and having the most donation in one 24 hour period for the jackpot could be VERY interesting

I believe it was round 6 that just ended. He's been starting a 48 hour round on the weekends. "Round 4" doesn't ever end until it goes 24 hours with no deposits. Check back on Thursday, if he follows the same pattern, there will be a notice about round 7.

To clarify things it's not a replacement for Bitcatch it is completely different project. Bitcatch is not going anywhere and as always there would be weekend round, but i think we must change rules slightly for the next round. How about sending jackpot to the playerwith largest amount of unpaid deposits? I think this would encourage everyone to make larger deposits because if they don't get their payouts they could easily win the jackpot. This also feels more fair. Or we can slit the jackpot among several players, for instance, 60% goes to the player who send more coins than others, 25 to the second , and 15 to the third. There can be a plenty of new features which I can add, feel free to suggest new ideas.

Ahaha! Lucky number 5. http://rand.bitcat.ch/?ref=5I don't know what it is about bitcoins that makes me want to gamble them away. I don't think I'd ever spend seven DOLLARS on something like this. :P I have a few questions though: Why is there a "rounds played" variable? is this round going to end sometime and I'm going to have to pay another fee? If so, I didn't see that information anywhere... D: In the "settings" tab, I can check or uncheck "automatic rotation". What's that?

As I said this is kind of prelaunch, i.e. it not yet finished and I need to write down rules, make stats, fix bugs (if any). So the main idea behind this randomizer is that each member plays their own rounds, each round costs 0.5 btc and ROI (return of investment) for each round is 20% this means that if round costs 0.5 BTC you would earn 0.6 BTC. You can stop playing and withdraw 0.6 btc, or you could start a new round (which is costs 0.5 BTC) and get another 0.6 BTC, then start a new one and so on. To double your initial deposit you need to play 5 rounds. To automate this process each new user have a "autorotation" option enabled by default, with this option rounds will be played automatically, e.g. if you have more than 0.6 btc in your balance it will automatically start a new round for you. If you disable autorotation you only able to get 0.6 btc from your investment and you will be unable to receive payouts nor from random users nor from your referrals.

I just took a look and there is something fishy! The account qweqwe got an income of 3,8 BTC an expense of 0,75BTC and a balance of 0,925BTC (This is your account xyu, right?) and so is 2,125 BTCs short...so the money got withdrawn. I don't think that this is fair that you take out the BTCs, because nobody else can withdraw BTCs! The money is missing in the game to really get it started. And how can the account qweqwe be set on auto rotation and have so much BTCs?

No, bitcoins is not withdrawn, this is caused by the bug that each round shortening balance by 0.5 BTC and because I cannot make payments to myself they doesn't showing in expenses. I can assure everything is OK, no one coin left the game, and if there would be found serious bugs I'll return all bitcoins to users.

Damn, that was over quickly! I expected there would be more people re-investing for a second round. I still have two deposits left unpaid!

I also have 2 unpaid, and 1 missing. I'm sure xyu will make god on the missing one.
We can only hope the jackpot round tomorrow gets us paid.

For this game it was more luck of the draw than anything, because the order is dependent on the miner, not the time the transactions were made. If it's any consolation I lost 23 BTC two weeks ago on bitcatch

I'm sure I'll get back ~80% of my BTC's by tomorrow, as long as people fight for the JackPot...

Posting here because I am not sure if round 4 topic is being monitored.
Please take a look at round 4. Pretty sure it should have ended at Aug 07 00:52:35 based on the bet placed Aug 06 00:52:35 but a bet was placed at Aug 07 01:02:08.
Thanks, KAF

I was 3 or 4 away, last night when I saw the 4 BTC get deposited (but not confirmed). This morning the 4 BTC is deposited - confirmed and I'm still in the same position.
Not sure what happened

I'm not sure if it was a reordering or the payment processor stopped perhaps?
Someone better at the math than me should put this into Excel and check...

The winner of the jackpot is the investor who bets the most in the second day. Does the second day start in ~30 minutes end end 24 hours from then? So August 13, UTC?

No. The game runs for 48 hours. The 2nd day is the 2nd 24 hour period. So, day 2 starts Aug 13, 20:00 UTC.

I'm surprised more people aren't getting in on this now, then. I'm willing to bet that everybody who gets in during the first 24 hour period will be paid back, along with most of those who invest in the second period. It seems like the way xyu set it up, it's practically a guarantee!
