What are all these bitcoin forks about? Does it solve real problems of bitcoin or is it more like ICOs?

longwintershere, we believe that making cross-blockchain atomic trading available at kernel level is a way to solve the problem of trust in a trustless environment - entities should exchange assets directly & without any risks associated with their transactions - once LN steps up, all of these will be possible as instantaneous operations.

We still need on-chain swaps requiring confirmations for e.g. large volume trades and transparent contracts on different blockchains.

Thanks for the explanation. I'll try to learn more about your project as I'm quite new to crypto. Hopefully you don't mind if I come up with more questions.

Atomic swaps did wonders for litecoin, could be the same for btc. I'm holding btc either way, will feel good to get some free tokens on top of that Smiley If the team delivers as promised, we could be looking at the new bitcoin cash. Bring it on Cheesy

Thank you for your support musta5a!

Is this fork going to take place for sure? Or is there a chance it would be called off as 2x fork,,,,,,

bitcoinman93, our team has been researching on-chain atomic swaps for several months already. For now, we are already on a later stage of a node development, and the team is confident that the fork will take place - the exact block number is yet to be announce though.

All right. Does the team have real experience from other crypto projects?

Yes, the team behind the Bitcoin Atom has plenty of experience with other crypto projects. Our team members have been actively involved in the community from its early days, successfully building blockchain apps, bitcoin exchanges and contributing to community as much as we could. We believe now that the time has come to decentralize bitcoin by on-chain atomic swaps, thus to bring transparency to digital asset trading.

Bitcoin Atom is not just another fork, but it's bringing additional value to bitcoin users. When you study more about HTLCs, AS and LN, you might change your mind.

You're right, it's not on Yobit or Exrates yet, but it will be there once the BCA goes live. That's how it's meant in the ANN. Thank you for your opinion though, we will consider to make this clearer with following edit.

Why you don't want free money actually bitcoin fork is the only way to get listed on big exchange and get more attention without doing any efforts. Forks is new kind of ICO to make quick profit.

Will watch this thread for further development let us see how they will implement these features. But I don't understand why they need to launch this with fork of bitcoin.

How many times are these forks are gonna happen? The fork creators say that they implemented everything that Bitcoin community wanted, but in fact it becomes a separate coin that almost noone uses. Well, I hope it's just for a certain period of time. Every project has a chance for development.

Thanks musta5a, a subset of the team is working on a toolkit of swapping BTC<->LTC in both directions completely on-chain and built into the node.

We will publish development update on it here on BTT and in other channels like Reddit / Twitter.

We believe that BCA is not yet another Bitcoin fork, but rather it's bringing additional value to bitcoin users. Please consider reading more about HTLCs, AS and off-chain swaps through Lightning channels - you might change your mind.

Atom's team is now working on both on-chain and off-chain swaps, which we think will simplify digital asset exchange out-of-the-box.
