Well, folks, I am speechless. Utterly speechless. Good thing I only have to type right now, for the Ultra X4 has not met its 80 Plus certification. Quite frankly, it's not even close to meeting it. Bronze is supposed to see a full power efficiency result of 82%, and we just barely got that on test four. This is absurd. I have never had a unit fail to meet its own 80 Plus numbers by this wide a margin before. Look! Test five even had it drop out of the 80 Plus standard certification level!

The Ultra X4 1200 watt model started off with a bang and ended with a resounding thud. Yes, it did the whole one thousand two hundred watts of rated power. But it was hardly without issue. First, we saw efficiency numbers so embarrassing they left me wondering how this unit could have ever passed 80 Plus standard, let alone Bronze. Then, due to a fair sized gap between the 12V maximum capacity and the total rated capacity, we saw some not so good voltage stability from the 3.3V and 5V rails due to the need to max them out to get up to full power. Last but not least, we have a unit that was only too happy to exceed ripple specs at 12V for several seconds before the overtemp protection was able to kick in and shut the unit down. There are a few good points about this unit, like the overshoot transient protection, the ripple suppression, and the 12V regulation, but for the most part it's all overwhelmed by sheer blandness. This unit gets a 5 [of 10] for being so... well... so-so when everything is taken into consideration.

If you knew anything about PSU's you would know that every company/item has a few bad eggs. I could find horror stories from Silverstone, Corsair, and other highly rated PSU's.

Ultra are one of the best brands  you can buy.

Just because someone's car broke down out of 10000 cars made doesn't mean you shouldn't buy the car.

This GPU ran tri SLI 580's and quad sli 295's. Its a powerful beast.

how many people do you think measure their efficiency and post it on newegg for any psu?  jonnyguru is the only one place that matters to me for rating psus, but if all or most others say something different, I'd believe them.  got other reviews?

I don't need any more PSUs, but I did want to mention that I've got Ultras in 5 of my miners and they have been extremely reliable.  I've been pushing them right to the rated limit, too.

Dude, seriously... Ultra is literally one of the worst PSU brands you can buy.  They are consistently bad, there is not a "few bad eggs" with Ultra brand, there are "one in a thousand good eggs" with Ultra. 

I'm sorry you got suckered into buying one and didn't do your research, but you aren't going to get $150 for that PSU.  I wouldn't even take that PSU for free since Ultra's have a habit of not going alone into the dark night.  By that I mean they have a habit of taking other pieces of hardware with them when they die. 

PSU = most important piece of your computer.  Never skimp on the PSU - skimp on any other piece of hardware, but not the PSU. 

On the upside, you might be able to sell it as a 600w and price is appropriately (about $30 - $40), since keeping it underloaded like that will probably keep it from committing suicide, but anyone who runs an Ultra PSU hates their computer components.
