3. Bitcoin can be hacked
This one is false and irrelevant.  BTC can't be hacked yet, and in the event of quantum computers becoming more prevalent in 20 years or so, it can always just soft fork or hard fork to a more secure algorithm.
9. Bitcoin was only worth $0.003 each in 2010 and could drop back to that level
Irrelevant.  Most major stocks started at low prices.

Real reasons that might justify selling:
1.  BTC's merchant adoption seems to have decreased since the start of the year (Fiverr and Steam no longer accept it).
2.  BTC's usage as a speculative asset is unlikely to be sustainable.
3.  There is a lot of confusion about what BTC's purpose is supposed to be - people seem to try and justify the high price after it happens rather than before it by altering BTC's purpose (from currency to "store of value" to speculative asset).

More likely, the following scenario will occur on 12/18 when futures start trading:

There will be an initial rush (especially from Asia) to buy.  Expect that BTC could quickly go to the $25K-$35K range. There will also be a lot of media hype.  Only after that initial surge will short selling start and a resultant real roller coaster ride for those that can trade fast.  IMHO.

I believe it is time to sell because there is no fundamental basis for valuation of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies

The price is basically based on one thing: crypto is a popular idea

As far as the actual value of bitcoin. The price is through the roof and will surely fall back down - maybe to $0

What are your top reasons to sell bitcoin?

(1) To buy Ether
(2) To buy Ripple
(3) To buy Litecoin

I find it funny how so many of the "Bitcoin is a bubble, therefore you should sell" articles either leave out a significant number of Bitcoin's strengths or they say something to the effect of, "Today's price could be a steal in 15 years, but today it's way over priced."

Well, I guess true bitcoiners will count all this reasons just like a crap and I can believe that. I don't have any bitcoin myself, just prefer something cheaper, but not less perspective, such as Etherum Wink

3. How can Bitcoin be hacked? Human beings can be hacked because they install malicious software.
5. This happens with pretty much any other crypto.
9. BTC is too far ahead for that
10. Long term investments are against that.

I was going to leave this post without saying anything but this reply caught my attention.
1. The price is through the roof

I have no idea how this makes it a reason to sell except if you can look at the facts from a long distance and don't take the time to research a bit into it.
Back in 2015 the price of 1000 was incredible and unbelievable. This is because the price at that point was about $250. That's a profit x4 ! And it happened just like that before we could even believe it.
And when the price hit that point, there was people just like you (exactly like you) who were telling us to sell as that's the highest it can ever become. A lot of people sold and were totally happy with the profits they made.

Oh let's just imagine how much MORE they could've made by NOT believing what the "people" said and held onto now. I'm not gonna calculate it you can do the math but we can say it's well more than 60 times !! Do you imagine ?
That's exactly why I'm not gonna sell any time soon. Keep saying whatever you want.

Quote
2. There are already 1380 other crypto currencies

BTC ain't one of them.

Quote
3. Bitcoin can be hacked
Prove it. Please hack the address on my profile and transfer them to your account.

Quote
4. The fees are way too much to transfer funds
On point but will get solved eventually

Quote
5. 1000 people control the addresses of 50% of the bitcoin
Jeff Bezon got 97 billion dollars. Bill Gates has 90 billion dollars. And the list goes on.  Got anything to say ? Plus those numbers aren't even accurate.

Quote
6. Bitcoin might crash on December 18th when futures start
7. It appears to be near the bubble
8. The volatility is insane and unpredictable
9. Bitcoin was only worth $0.003 each in 2010 and could drop back to that level
10. The only way to collect profits is to cash out before it crashes

Just LOL. I guess my first part of the quote cleared all this uselessness.

Well so many people wanted to invest in it and as far as I can see those people who are investing in it don`t have an idea what is it and in the slightest dump they would panic and dump their btc.

Just LOL. I guess my first part of the quote cleared all this uselessness.

Clearly he doesnt even know how futures works, one day before the opening of the futures from the CBOE, he started posting that billions and billions of dollars were going to be shorted and that bitcoin will go down to less than $5000 because of those futures

Probably he does not even know what to say anymore, if bitcoin doesn't crash on the 18th, what is going to be next? on christmas?

you are just wasting your time, the only ones who are going to sell are those who have 0.05, or 0.01, those who are desperated for money.

those who have more than a bitcoin or a little bit more, are not going to sell because a piece of scum is telling us to sell.

the reason I sell bitcoin is because I want to take advantage of bitcoin, usually everybody sells bitcoin when they judge it is profitable, and what enables me to sell bitcoin is my life needs and desires.

I beg to disagree. It wont fall back to zero. Remember bitcoin has a value and in current state people use it as commodity or backed up golds. Mass adoption of central banks and other countries are reason why bitcoin keeps increasing. So there's no room for bitcoin to go back to 0 nontheless the internet of all will die or destroy by terrosrists.

I don’t find any reason aside from this, bitcoin is amazing and it can gives you big profit so better to invest on it for good. But yeah, some people are scared because they think bitcoin is bubble but you have to believe that this is our future.

That is your choice to not be informed. Anything on the internet can be hacked

Here is an article from days ago about a bitcoin mining platform getting hacked:

Just search for News on NiceHash Hack:
bitcoin-stolen-in-hack-on-nicehash-cryptocurrency-mining-marketplace.html

Hackers got away with $60 million worth of bitcoin after a cyber attack hit the cryptocurrency mining platform NiceHash

Well, i only have one reason. Profit. This is reality. People invest because they expect to have profits. I doubt anyone holding bitcoin right now will continue to hold bitcoin forever because reality will not permit that. I don't suppose you continue to hold your bitcoin until you die because what is the point in that? At the end of the day, it all comes down to profit making. You might say that Bitcoin was created for certain purposes(decentralization and etc...), but all i could see right now is that people involving themselves with Bitcoin basically for the reason of gaining profits.

Bitcoin is good to hold in my opinion, no big reason to sell bitcoin now although the price is high.
Why do i sell bitcoin? I sell my bitcoin because i wnt to convert to altcoin like etherium and later again to bitcoin.

1. The price is through the roof
2. There are already 1380 other crypto currencies
3. Anything on the internet can be hacked
4. The fees are way too much to transfer funds
5. 1000 people control the addresses of 50% of the bitcoin
6. Bitcoin might crash on December 18th when futures start
7. It appears to be near the bubble
8. The volatility is insane and unpredictable
9. Bitcoin was only worth $0.003 each in 2010 and could drop back to that level
10. The only way to collect profits is to cash out before it crashes

Most of these 'reasons' are irrelevant. For example, reason #2, so what? ~99.99% of them are going nowhere because they bring nothing to the table, and exist only to try line the pockets of those who mined early.

Reason #3 really isn't a reason to sell.

Now reason #8 is why a lot of people sell, often to try buy again on the drop. Who knows when it will all go tits up but I'm being cautious. I've been very cautious over the years, which is why I've made tens of thousands and not hundreds of thousands like those who had stronger hands...

Yes it can get a bit daunting as of this point. But I strongly believe Bitcoin is powerful - at least at this point so it's good to take the chance and make the most out of it.

Jeff Bezon got 97 billion dollars. Bill Gates has 90 billion dollars. And the list goes on.  Got anything to say ? Plus those numbers aren't even accurate.

Just LOL. I guess my first part of the quote cleared all this uselessness.

All wrong. The distribution of Fiat is much more even compared to Bitcoin's distribution. Bitcoin can be hacked. Not right now, but in a decade most definitely due to quantamn computing. And the big issue, which really destroys bitcoin's security, is that coins can not be recovered if lost. So, in the future if Bitcoin is "hacked" into, and something happens to your wallet, it's gone forever. In the case of Fiat, if a bank is hacked then they'll simply reimburse you for the funds, at least USD and Euro. Bitcoin has no such protection. The average person will never adopt Bitcoin because of that(not evne mentioning the extreme volatility and extremely high fees, slowness, etc),  mark my words

I think the majority of the profits have already been made on bitcoin. The only way to realize the profits is to cash out before bitcoin drops in price. At $17,000 USD I believe that is a great exit price. You can always re-enter at a lower price in the future. With fees getting higher and wait times getting longer to sell, I learn toward selling bitcoin before it gets too bad

I have sold a part of the bitcoin. The reason is simple, that is what I want my own way of life to do what I want to do. It's not just a lifetime of bitcoin. Bitcoin profit is just a part of my life, and I have a lot more important than this to do.

Top 10 is too much.
First is for emergency situation or for urgent need i withdraw my bitcoin.
Second is for trading and buying altcoins in market exchange sites.
Third and last one is to invest on ICO's project.
These are my 3 reason why i sell my bitcoin from my crypto wallet.

Reason to Sel:

Medical emergency, family emergency.

Otherwise: HODL

Sure Bitcoin merchant adoption has slowed down, that's expected...  I mean think about it... if you had $500 USD in your wallet and the same value in BTC in your mobile crypto wallet and you walked into a electronics store to buy a laptop. .... would you spend the $500 USD in ur wallet or the $500 worth of BTC in your crypto wallet on getting a new laptop? - considering BTC has been going through the roof..the $500 worth of BTC could be worth $700 in a week... but the $500 of USD is still going to be $500 in even 6 months......many merchants are slowing down adoption because many bitcoiners are starting to see that BTC makes more sense as a store for value than a transactional currency. I think BTC will be used for saving and for large purchases like houses/cars etc.. and not for your day to day transactional usage... like buying a cup of coffee of grocery shopping. Using it for large purchases would make the slow transaction times not a major issue... I mean it's not a big deal waiting 30mins for a payment to go through when you buying a house or a car.... but it is a big deal when you sitting in the drive-thru at McDonald's and you want to pay with BTC.

The bitcoin is price is high enough for those who had bought it for $300-$400, If you don't sell it now then in another bubble burst you will be panic selling in much lower price.

Things are chaotic as of now in terms of price levels and investors don't like this usually and hence if someone is willing to play a safe game then he should sell his holding because, at this point, anything is possible including a panic selling wave and huge sell orders pressure from future trading exchanges. Thus, if someone can't handle such situation then he should exit for some time, to be honest. That's the single reason I see.

I believe it is time to sell because there is no fundamental basis for valuation of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies

The price is basically based on one thing: crypto is a popular idea

As far as the actual value of bitcoin. The price is through the roof and will surely fall back down - maybe to $0
How can you say that it will fall back to $0? You're right about one thing tho, bitcoin's price will surely fall back but it doesn't mean that it will not come back again. Also, you're saying that "it is the time to sell" means like you are also saying that we should never invest again in bitcoin because the way we value bitcoin will disappear instantly anytime soon and its price will fall to the ground.

Bitcoin was the first digital currency. But it most likely won't be the one to succeed.

Look at myspace vs facebook

I think the main reason to sell bitcoin is that the returns are already incredible. And the future is quite uncertain about which crypto will take over the market. More and more cryptos are being introduced each day. With bitcoin's fees becoming so high and the bubble approaching, it seems like the perfect time to cash in the majority of bitcoin profits.

5. What does the personal net worth of Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates have to do with cryptocurrencies? lmao that's the most ridiculous thing I think I have ever heard, ever. You sir have no idea what you're talking about on anything.

Big mistake given what has happened to the market since then.

I also sold some to pay for fixing my roof. I needed the cash.
My roof still leaks and the builder has disappeared and wont return my calls!

So yeah. my two reasons for selling and neither has been great result for me!

This dude is still spamming bearish threads all over bitcointalk, I see.  Top reason for me (even though I'm not selling right now):  You don't own that Lamborghini until you actually cash out bitcoin and buy it.  Lots of people have tremendous paper profits, but that can all be gone in an instant.

You haven't actually made money on an investment until you sell--except with bitcoin, it is currency, and it is money, so that complicates things.  However, once you sell for fiat you lock in your profits.

I suspect many folks aren't going to do that and will hold on when the bubble pops, which it will do.  The only question in my mind is when that's going to happen.

It's quite obvious. He seems to have a strong motive to spread FUD over the current state of bitcoin. It kind of makes you wonder what those motives are. Altruistic? I would not bet on it. So probably incentivized by someone who would like to see bitcoin fail so his coin could take the place... At least it looks like that.

10. The only way to collect profits is to cash out before it crashes
These are the reasons some people think like you, but many people continue to buy and hold it for the reasons they think it can still pump. The past few days there was a lot of good news from wall street and major trading floors in the world that officially accepted the bitcoin and publicized it on their floor. I do not think it will dump in the future.

One reason could be that there is another bullrun on altcoins about to start as we witnessed it in early 2017, only much bigger. Many people will likely realize their Bitcoin profits in Alts as it has already begun with ETH, Ripple and Litecoin shooting up.

and the other coin will follow with those coins. today, I see bitcoin price is going down as we have to see another hard fork and like before, the price might be down for a while. but I don't want to sell my bitcoin now because the price is not good for me. I think if we want to buy bitcoin, we can wait a little time to make sure the price is really going down again or stay at the price now.

A great video discussing when to sell Bitcoin from a very successful Crypto investor:

a real successful crypto investor I not going to waste his time creating and participating in youtube videos. and most of them don't even share any of their speculations with anyone let alone with public. that is how they become successful, by keeping the secrets to themselves.

the unsuccessful and desperate crypto traders on the other hand, are a different breed. they will cling to any idiotic method they can think of to spread their "hopes" in form of "predictions" and then they praise themselves a lot by calling themselves a "successful trader" a lot.

I think one overlooked reason to cash out Bitcoin is the idea of "locking in profits"

With returns as massive as 500%, 1000%, 10,000%+ it makes sense to take the profit at some point. Sure you could miss out on additional gains, but by getting out before the crash you are essentially taking a safer route and mitigating risk. When compared to other investments like ETFs or Blue Chip Stocks, the returns that bitcoin has provided are incredible. A good exit strategy can involve things like: Selling at an arbitrary price point, selling at a certain ROI, selling if the price dips below a certain amount, selling if the trend starts to change, etc.

The important part is to understand your own strategy and your risk/reward ratio.

Realized Profit > Unrealized Profit

Returns seem so unpredictable to me on bitcoin investments, that I think locking in a big win is underrated.

You have to cash out to realize profit

"2. There are already 1380 other crypto currencies"

For me this point is not a reason to sell, on the contrary, the fact that there is too much crypto favors even more the number 1

What are your top reasons to sell bitcoin?

PLEASE DONT Spam the board with anything except reasons to SELL BITCOIN. There are other threads for that

MY Top 10 Reasons To Sell:

1. The price is through the roof
2. There are already 1380 other crypto currencies
3. Anything on the internet is vulnerable to hackers
4. The fees are way too much to transfer funds
5. 1000 people control the addresses of 50% of the bitcoin
6. The unpredictability surrounding Futures and December 18th
7. It appears Bitcoin is near the bubble
8. The volatility is insane and unpredictable
9. Bitcoin was only worth $0.003 each in 2010 and could drop back to that level
10. The only way to collect profits is to cash out before it crashes

Talking about the value and price of bitcoin it is more valuable and fast. Their will be no bubble burst that can fallen the price and value of bitcoin. Bitcoin is most popular and fast growing currency in coming year it will reach to almost 50k. Always their will be a such rise in price of bitcoin than a fall in its price.

I stop reading at "Bitcoin can be hacked"

That is your choice to not be informed. Anything on the internet can be hacked

Here is an article from days ago about a bitcoin mining platform getting hacked:

Just search for News on NiceHash Hack:
bitcoin-stolen-in-hack-on-nicehash-cryptocurrency-mining-marketplace.html

Hackers got away with $60 million worth of bitcoin after a cyber attack hit the cryptocurrency mining platform NiceHash

Bitcoin is a Protocol. Bitcoin mining is not the Bitcoin Protocol.

Just stop. Youre embarrassing yourself. Seriously.

LOL Nicehash has zero to do with the Bitcoin Protocol.

You can do better. Well no you can't. I've been "informed" since 2012. You are a moron and your own words prove it.

The future of Bitcoin is not always secured, especially to the ongoing rumors of the crash down. That is why if you want to secure your money, you should sell them now.

My top ten reasons is to continue to hold, hold and hold.
But if i really were to dig out reasons,
1. I got in way before
2. My profit has far surpassed my cost
3. I want to see if bitcoin drops further after i sell.
Thats all the reason i can think of if i want to sell ~
