I know some of you here have already begun mining Primecoin with GPUs and may still be holding on to them to collect your stash before announcing the miner script.

What I'm proposing, is if you are among those few who managed to alter CGminer or similar scripts to mine on GPU but you don't have good hardware, I'd be keen to rent out 1/3 of my rig for free in exchange for you to share the script with me. I will not be sharing this code with anyone else, for obvious reasons - this will be between us two, you and me until you are happy to release it to the world wild west.

The opportunity to stash XPM with GPU won't last long, as I'm sure you are not the only one who found a way to GPU mine by now (though I don't personally know how). That's why you might as well maximize your chance by partnering with someone who has good hardware like me.

My rig is 24 x 7970- that means you will get 8 x 7970 worth of mining for free for at least one week or until you get 10K XPM (amount is negotiable), which ever yields more XPM for you, providing your code is efficient enough for me to keep mining it by then, and not switching back to LTC. Here is the picture of my rig as proof that I actually own it (click here to see the article):

I also would be willing to make a deal for my rigs with 7970's and 7950's (normally work great with scrypt).  You get majority shares for using my rigs during it being private.

lol. this thread is suppose to attract coder without GPUS, not miners without a script Smiley

So basically you are holding an open casting call announcing yourself as a total douchebag who is only interested in keeping a possible GPU miner secret so you can hoard coin. Ok, seem like a pleasant fucktard. Now go away and mine whatever flavor of shitcoin dying GPU miners are mining this hour.

Hah,
yeah totally envious of GPU mining..  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes
Even more fun that you don't even realize that the AMD cards you are running will be 100% useless for GPU mining XPM since the only work being done is with nVidia's CUDA implementation. Have fun with your 300W space-heaters..

Smiley, first:
they are 6000W, not 300
second, they are free heaters for my place, which just happens to be winter over here.

So you sound like you know this thing, why don't you go and mine XPM with ya lovely nVidia, instead of wasting time crying like a kid here Wink
Oh.. wait, you have neither script, nor nVidia, I guess  Huh

Plenty of nVidia cards here, but no working miner. I guess 1 out of 2 is ok..

Well, I figured that if someone is mining with GPU, they must be getting at at 20 cheaper than buying VPS instances. THat means with my rig if prorperly optimised, will yield about 1.5M PPS and at current rate of 70k PPS required to get a block per hour, that will yield 20+ blocks per hour for someone mining with GPU (I know because I'm getting over 2 blocks per hour with 200k pps)

The people with the skills to write a gpu miner also have the skills to build gpu rigs. And if they have a good gpu miner they are making a killing right now on current prices.

Sharing the miner code is a long term strategy which will only appeal to many people when they seen their returns dropping significantly. Some people love to share and help other people out, even if it means they miss the shot term possibility, but they are in the minority.

I think the gpu miners will come out when someone thinks the tips or code sales would bring in more than their mining rig.

I'm surprised it's taken this long actually. How long did it take until the litecoin gpu miner was released?

Maybe it is not just about number of coins brought in but also about exchange price of the coin.

Does releasing a new technology massively increasing mining efficiency tend to enhance or suppress exchange-rates?

(I am thinking maybe once a person has enough coins that IF they were worth more it'd be a fortune, enhancing the per coin value might start to look as interesting and maybe even more interesting than racking up more coins faster?)

Did litecoin go up or down in volume averaged price, volume, popularity etc when GPU mining came out? Were millions of ordinary CPU users flocking to it hitherto then only those few people who had GPUs thereafter, or were ordinary people with no GPUs actually not all that inclined toward the idea of mining in the first place so that appealing to those interested enough to have equipped themselves resulted in a lot more people flooding in faster?

(Less people have GPUs than have CPUs but maybe a higher fraction of them are motivated to play the geeky/techie miner-side of the cryptocoin game?)

With litecoin there was some "shaming" involved, in that the person who created the crippled/nerfed modified "scrypt" purported to be GPU resistant was also the person purported to have a GPU miner. There were suspicions the real reason we use a nerfed/crippled pathetic pretense at scrypt was so his GPU miner would work not for whatever other excuses were given for the nerfing. He kept denying it so eventually someone published a GPU miner to prove that it was sure as heck nerfed so much that GPUs were sure as heck not at any big disadvantage compared to CPUs, with implication the author who nerfed the scrypt in the first place surely must have known that so presumably must have been using a GPU miner.

(So maybe we need folks to accuse Sunny of having made a GPU miner before releasing the coin, so someone will produce one to show how easily that could have been the case! Cool)

It's better for the good of the coin if GPU mining adoption is gradual. And I speculate that is what will happen. People who work out how to GPU mine it are literally finding a golden goose and killing it for no reason if they distribute it freely... especially when the exchange rate is 40 cents a coin. I predict people will GPU mine in private and gradually grow in numbers, and then when it is nowhere near as profitable someone will release it for a bounty. That is the free market in action and that is also healthier for the network hash.

So I guess botnets that find they happen to have thousands of GPU-equipped machines among their zombies will be the biggest winners, having the largest incentive to get GPU-mining code written?

Don't botnets thrive most on cpu mining?   Most computers have decent cpus but a low percentage have high end gpus.

Especially nowadays with the recent push of ultrabooks and thin laptops by both Apple and Intel.
