I would like to diversify into altcoins, but I would also like to limit the number of wallets I need.
I would prefer desktop wallets where I control the keys, where I am in control, but I wonder if that is even possible.
For Ripple the only way to be in control is the hardware wallet Ledger Nano S.

So, how do you buy and manage your altcoins?

I don't mind leaving it on an exchange for a short while, but for safety reasons I would like to be in control. I looked into ledger today, but apparently they are experiencing infrastructure problems. If their server goes down or they go bankrupt, will I still be able to access my coins?
Once a transaction has 6 confirmations, it is extremely unlikely that an attacker without at least 50% of the network's computation power would be able to reverse it.
