Hi,
I really don't get how everyone is putting a "liked my post? donate!" in their signature. I mean, come on, wtf? Now you expect me to pay you because you voluntarily decided to express an opinion and it wasn't total crap?
What's with the greed, dude...
Seriously, how much do people expect to make this way? A dollar a week? 1.20$?
Up to here, you had a somewhat valid 'complaint' - although I still think you're overreacting (noone is expecting you to pay him, you are just given the option in the odd event that you may want to donate something to a user).
I propose an unconditional, unlimited ban for everbody having a bitcoin address in their signature!
Here it gets ridiculous. Like, seriously, ridiculous. Ban someone for a bitcoin address in their forum signature? What's next? Ban people for having a megahash/sec tag? Ban people for saying something about Satoshi? Ban people for linking to their Bitcoin-related service without having a 'premium' forum subscription (as some non-Bitcoin forums do)? Live and let live. Noone is forcing you to do anything. Noone is forcing you to send them money. Noone is 'begging' - they are simply providing a Bitcoin address for those who wish to donate to someone for whatever reason. Disclaimer: one of the things I actually like most about the Bitcoin economy is that it's very donation-driven, compared to the 'regular' economy. People set up services, and simply accept donations instead of charging a flat fee of everyone. I consider donation-based services or products as 'voluntary payment' (the Humble Bundle works in a similar way), something I absolutely support, and actually use myself to pay for all of my expenses. |

If I give you money, can I claim it as a deduction on my taxes? This broaches another topic I've been meaning to raise--maybe I'll yet start a thread on it. The very anonymity that helps makes bitcoin attractive makes it no good for donating to charity. If I donate 100 BTC to my favorite legitimate charity, how can they prove it was me that gave it to issue a receipt? And how much do they make the receipt for? |

If I donate 100 BTC to my favorite legitimate charity, how can they prove it was me that gave it to issue a receipt? You go to their web page, click the 'donate bitcoins' button, fill out your info, they give you a receiving address just for you, you send the bitcoins, they mail you a receipt. And how much do they make the receipt for? The current fair market value of the bitcoins in your local currency, just as they would for any donation in a form other than your local currency. |

1. Sarcasm doesn't travel well over the internet. 2. It would be unreasonable to expect everyone to read full threads before responding... some of the threads here can be 50+ pages long. I usually read the OP, the first few posts, and the last 2 posts or so. That is usually enough to get an idea of a thread enough to respond. |

I don't see anything wrong with it - am a total n00b at this and hate being a n00b since I'm by no means Internet stupid, so I joined feeling a bit cranky and frustrated with myself for not knowing what to do once I had Bit Coin downloaded and the donation requests actually made me smile. And no, I'm not encouraging it, but gosh, you have to just let people be who and what they are. If you don't care for it, no one is holding a gun to your head forcing you to pay attention to the requests. Just sayin'. And who knows, maybe someday you'll have a pile of bit coins and someone will help or inspire you and you'll be inclined to share a fraction or two of one of your coins!  It could happen! |

I found the donation addresses a little off-putting at first, but then I just got used to them being everywhere. Kind of like hobos. Actually a lot like hobos.

Anyways I really wouldn't take it all that seriously, unless someone can prove to me that they've been donated to plenty of times via a sig message.
I have received 13.112 BTC in the past week to the address in my sig, not counting some transfers that weren't really donations because the person agreed to pay me a specific amount for a specific thing. You can see it in blockexplorer. These are mostly from people who want to fund my work on patching bitcoind for better operation with massive mining pools. well sir, then you just proved me wrong. now if only i had any skill at coding, and encryption, and etc. |
What else could I say?

Some posts are helping people make more money. Some of the solutions these people post took a lot of trail and error to learn. |

Someone could help me with that |
