We need politician to lead the members of society and to make laws that will implement peace and order. But most of then using their position for their personal gain and the people voted get left behind.

I think that as humans, we always need people to lead us in all affairs to ensure discipline. Politicians serve as representatives and most times all citizens cannot focus on all aspects of the nation's economy so these politicians are there at different sectors to help steer the affairs of the nation

The reason we have politicians is so that we have officials that can uphold the written law. Like American written law is unique because it leaves areas where laws can be open for the people to decide. If the people do have an idea, but it violates the guidelines set by our written law (the Constitution) then the politicians can vote it down. Ideally speaking, politicians are there as representatives of their constituents in whatever area they hail from. It should be a sort of public service because they should be thinking when they make laws or regulations to safeguard and help the people have a better life. However, like most of the replies state, it is unfortunate that many politicians only run for office for themselves and not for the welfare of the people. The government is the biggest business entity in every country, thus many are blinded to try to take advantage of that.

Not to say that politicians are good. But in reality the vast majority of people are not going to be informed on any subject, have bias, etc, etc, in a much worse level than a politician. They are also easily manipulated. Since some people are going to be in power, they will manipulate people to vote for things that will make it better for themselves.
