There are several different types of Bitcoin clients. The most secure are full nodes like Bitcoin Core, but full nodes are more resource-heavy, and they must do a lengthy initial syncing process. As a result, lightweight clients with somewhat less security are commonly used.

Still mining. Mining is smooth. And I think that the transaction time is perfect too. the trade went so quickly, so well done. I hope it hits cryptsy soon, so I can sell and get more CDC.

I am positive yes. I am not in the team, so I don't know what is going on inside, but in my opinion it is a grest little coin. They also gave away a lot from the premine and as they sad they are using the rest for development. So I think it should hit cryptsy soon.

what hashrate to expect with Dual Core Intel 8400 ? how many clouds ? I am not sure. You should join the pool and start mining there. And after about half an hour the pool will show the stats like: estimated coins per day, hashpower... Or you can check it in cgminer too.

Hi Kujmandosz, I'm trying to do some research, what file(s) contain the code that enables the hashespersec and gethashespersec command? Thanks. Open up your cloudcoin wallet. Than go to help>debug window>console. In the console you can type in commands. So type in getmininginfo. With that you can get basically every info what I think you need. You can also check out this site that supports and tracks cloudcoin: cryptometer.org Hope this helps, Kujmandosz

We updated the client (more checkpoints and smoother wallet). We have just released our second mining pool, and the third mining pool is under development. I talked to BitJohn yesterday about Cloudcoin and cryptsy. He said that we are on the list and moving up. When we hit the exchange and have a value we will be able to develop markets, stores and spread out cloudcoin more.

Hey Kid. Now let me clarify things in your mind: I have a team. RaymondKa and coinmester are part of our developer. They are programmers from the team who made account here. We talk to each other every day and discussing the future of cloudcoin. All of us have access to each others account. At that time it happened to be that he was using mine. And Coinmester posted that announcement since he was the one who made the update. Sorry that we have a big team. I might even ask the rest of the programmer team to join the forum... about the other two bitcointalk forum members. Just to clarify things, they are not part of the team and we are not affiliated with them. They are just called supporters or miners who like cloudcoin. Let me ask who the hell are you to accuse active supporters of a coin with such things. You should stop kid. In the future try not to accuse people without any evidence and background knowledge or your life won't be fun. (just a suggestion) Don't try to scam coins with accusation since you did not invest in them. you just want to push your coins.

Nice! Any progress for coins-e? Saw something about it in your site's calendar.
Coins-e really depends on the developer. When they want to add new coins. They said they will consider adding Cloudcoin in there next update cycle, but they did mot tell me when. We are really pushing for phenixex too. Many people wants Cloudcoin up there too. We are on the list of cryptsy too and we have been going up. So the only thing I an say is that exchange is on the way. It is coming soon for sure.

I've been able to withdraw 15000 (10000, 3000, 1000, 500, 400, etc. until about 15000 total). My balance still shows 32000 coins on the online wallet. Can't withdraw. Not sure if the balance was off to start with. But even if it did, that's worrisome.

Heads up everybody!
We have been working hard on new store implementations for the last couple of weeks. As exchange implementation is here soon I suggest everybody to stock up from cheap and easy Clouds until its too late.
When Cloud hits the exchange demand will rice and price will go up and you can actually spend your coins in our stores.
Want to know the stores?
check them out here: cloud coin.webs.com
Cheers

My Cloudcoin client, which I have tried to upgrade several times to 1.1, still tells me it is 1.0 on the About page.
This client is trying to mint 0.03 CDC blocks every few minutes, but none of these blocks are ever accepted by the rest of the network.

Can the CDC dev or e-wallet site owner please help?

Heads up everyone. After 2 months of silence, Cloudcoin is back again with new team members. Our exchange is still working on bter.com and out site is up and running again with increasing members.
The team is working hard now to fix the client in order to start the mining again. Until the fixes are down, I suggest everyone to obtain as many clouds as possible through the exchange site.
Cloudcoin is going back to the top again. Stay tuned for more info and news regarding development.
Go Cloudcoin, Kujmandosz

Cloudcoin is a pump and dump scam. The OP has also been proven to have attempted to scam others for a loan by using an alt account to loan to himself.

Any ETA on the fix?

Hi,
I am solo-mining, but when I got blocks, it's not credited on "newmint balance" or my balance.
It seems that cloudcoin it's a scam.

Cloudcoin has a shocking orphan rate. I measured it a couple of days ago at about 92%. Meaning, 92% of the blocks your miner finds are orphaned. Less than a tenth become mature. If the high orphan rate problem is ever fixed the value of CDC is going to take a serious dive, because people will suddenly be able to mine 10+ times as much.

I've been watching CDC blocks today and have noticed that the orphans are caused by a longer chain winning. The end of the chain grows steadily, then suddenly the lot is revoked by consensus when another longer chain wins. This happens every couple of minutes. I've seen 30+ blocks drop off from my view of the chain at times.
So it's fairly easy to win a block, but the amount never matures because the chain they're on ends up being invalidated within a minute or two.
For example, in the past 20 mins I found 46 blocks (2300 CDC); ALL have been invalidated. I don't get credited a single CDC.
I don't know if this is happening because the network is somewhat segregated and there are two or more clusters which are "distant" from each other (so they end up fighting over which chain is valid), or there's a miner with a lot of power doing something shifty like withholding block announcements to mine on their own private chain. Or maybe it's a bug in the code which is causing different parts of the network to mine at different difficulties.
Either way, something is very wrong. It's near impossible to mine CDC right now.

I don't think it's as simple as that. It is not a straight fork, it's more like having the chain clipped back by 10 links every minute or so. Over that 20 minute period there were 23 "corrections" where another chain (or rather another tip of the chain) won the right to be the default.

Here's an example of the correction I'm talking about. This data stream was taken from a web server that had cloudcoind installed on it a few hours ago. There were no addnode= entries in the config; initial peers were found by the client via IRC. The server has never been used for mining. The cloudcoin daemon is solely for passive monitoring of the network. Blocks are found and the height steadily grows, until there's a correction which lops the end off the chain, invalidating all of the blocks (and transactions). The correction varies each time, but the cycle repeats constantly. I saw a correction of -54 earlier. That's enough to turn a confirmed generated block into an orphan. Your confirmed balance drops! I usually see 50 or so orphans in a row if it's a bad day; today I have over 1900 orphans in a row. Every block that I've found in the past 15 hours has been revoked... not a single CDC credited. There's something very wrong with this coin, or the network.

Another strange thing is happening now - most won blocks are being granted only tiny amounts of CDC (less than 0.1). Some appear to be granted 0. Any normal 50 CDC blocks are reversed within a few minutes. In the past 5 hours or so the height has increased by 251, yet money supply has increased by less than 20 CDC. Normally this should be 12550+ CDC. It has now been 23 hours since any of the blocks I've won have not been reversed by the network. 2300+ orphans, net 0.00000000 CDC

The network seems to be getting stuck in proof-of-stake mode (<1 CDC) rather than accepting proof-of-work (50 to 4400 CDC) blocks. There's plenty of PoW blocks minted by miners, but the network reverses most or all of them within a few minutes, which shows as an orphan for the miner. Occasionally there are bouts where PoW blocks make it to maturity, but this seems to be the exception rather than rule. Here's a sample from the last 10 hours showing the number of PoS and PoW blocks in the chain:
hour #1: 52 PoS hour #2: 60 PoS hour #3: 42 PoW, 55 PoS hour #4: 22 PoW, 38 PoS hour #5: 65 PoS hour #6: 54 PoS hour #7: 60 PoS hour #8: 61 PoS hour #9: 49 PoS hour #10: 60 PoS
Note that for only 2 hours out of those 10 was a decent amount of CDC mined via PoW actually making it to maturity... everything else was PoS breadcrumbs.
People holding their coins are making a small amount of interest via PoS, but miners trying to create new coins are having no luck.
tl;dr in 10 hours the network should have minted and accepted around 600 blocks; it accepted 64.

Clearly it demonstrates how PoS is superior to PoW and how the rich don't control the network and become richer!

This graph demonstrates found PoW blocks being periodically reversed over a roughly 2 hour period. The network is propagating those PoW blocks, several in sequence, then for some reason the network readjusts the chain, which revokes all of the PoW blocks. Note that this data is based on passive network monitoring, it has nothing to do with my own mining efforts.

In the past 48 hours there has only been one very brief period where found PoW blocks were not rejected by the network. It lasted for 40 seconds only. For the other 172760 seconds every PoW block was reversed.
Money supply has gone up by 4600 CDC in 48 hours. It should have gone up by at least 144000 CDC.
This coin is effectively dead until someone fixes the problem.

Things have gone from bad to worse. Around 8 hours ago there was another "window of opportunity" for about 8 minutes where PoW blocks were accepted by the network. Since that time, there have been no further PoW blocks making it to the network at all... which is different to the cycle we've seen in recent days where PoW blocks are accepted, then reversed. It seems to be the client that is ignoring them now; cgminer never reports "Accepted," only "Rejected"
This may be the same thing that's happening to Orbitcoin: a corrupt PoS block prevents any further PoW blocks. If what someone said on a thread about that coin is correct, this is the end of mining, until there's a dev fix.

Proof-of-work blocks are stalled due to two blocks being out of sequence. CDC (and other coins with the same parent source that hit a negative time between blocks) will not mint any further PoW blocks until the code is fixed. It's very simple to fix this particular problem, but getting people to upgrade will be the difficult part... and there's also other issues with CDC (such as the PoS blocks reversing PoW from mining) which would still be a problem.
In summary, as of this moment:
1. You can send and receive CDC, but it could take 24+ hours for enough PoS blocks to go through the network to confirm the transaction. 2. You cannot mine CDC at all. The clients and network will not accept any PoW blocks.

This was also recently posted by someone who seems to know what they're talking about. Reproducing here as he doesn't have full post access yet. My understanding of this explanation is that because Cloudcoin places so much value on proof-of-stake blocks (much more so than other coins) it is possible for a rogue node that owns sufficient coins to override (cancel) most mined blocks... which coincidentally is what has been happening for months. Message follows: Isn't the 1,000,000 CDC showing for the first couple of hours on cryptometer simply the massive premine? It's right there in the client code: if(nHeight == 1) { nSubsidy = 1000000 * COIN; }
First block? Grant a million CDC to the miner.almightyruler, Guess I need to post in the noob forum first. Been following what you've posted on the main CDC thread and have also been curious about the issues with this coin. The way the chain trust is calculated on CDC is the issue. It puts a very high trust on the stake blocks relative to the work blocks. (IsProofOfStake()? (CBigNum(1)<<256) / (bnTarget+1) : 1)
No other POS+POW coin that I looked at calculates block trust this way. The value generated for a proof of stake block is weighted far higher than a work block. Each work block increments the block trust value by 1, each stake block is trusted by over a million. The first generated stake block in the log for example. SetBestChain: new best=00000002d220876cda59 height=12409 trust=12410 date=08/02/13 12:30:41 SetBestChain: new best=000000014a6b9e2a2cce height=12410 trust=12411 date=08/02/13 12:31:02 SetBestChain: new best=e7616b332a619fc2099e height=12411 trust=1060988 date=08/02/13 12:33:07
This alone wouldn't necessarily cause the clipping to occur. Each client should still receive the mined blocks and place its POS blocks at the end of the chain. Either it was a client on the network that excessively slow at receiving new blocks or a modified client that only will accept POS blocks and reject POW blocks. I'm assuming the later. If a "good client" submitted a POS block, the POW blocks mined since the last POS would be accepted and the "bad client" would accept the longer chain. Someone with a lot of coins, maybe a million premine, would possibly do this . I was going to test this with some CDC that should generate a stake in a couple days, but mining has now become impossible. Also mining the coin recently locked due to a miner setting their clock back by over 700 seconds from the previous mined block. That set the target for the next block to be below zero. The client will reject any block with a target of zero or less in the CheckProofOfWork call. It's a simple fix and I was able to mine a few blocks. Since it affects the method of calculating difficulty, blocks I generate are rejected by the network. Unfortunately it would require a client update. Also this could also be an issue for any coin that retargets its difficulty every mined block.

The original dev of this coin used multiple accounts as shills when launching this coin, to try to drum up interest (and even pose as a fake investor). Look at his reputation score on here, then consider whether sending all your CDC to him is a good idea. As far as a block explorer, I don't think one exists, unfortunately.

DED !!! Get over it !
Actually, this coin has quietly been resurrected. If you're on the correct chain, you can even mine it. If you can sync past block 238xxx you're on the "new" fork. If you can't, try deleting the blockchain (delete blk0001.dat, blkindex.dat, and all of database/ ) and restarting. I must stress that this is not the current preferred chain, but because it is moving much faster it will overtake the official chain at some time in the near future. A small amount of mining now, then leaving your client open to start generating proof-of-stake blocks about 9.5 days later, could pay off nicely in the long run.

Do you have some nodes?
Sure thing. addnode=107.170.49.232 addnode=162.243.233.158 addnode=203.20.114.252 addnode=85.17.81.164 addnode=124.169.86.20
It's clients generating proof-of-stake blocks that will help this chain win, so it's important to open your client (or keep it open) around 9.5 days after you first mine.

Noticed that earlier. Most likely something automated that detected the fork as trust on the new chain surpassed the existing one. CDC is back!

I was the one that revived it. Not sure you could call me a maintainer though. May look at compiling a newer client with a couple of bugfixes and checkpoints.

I don't think so because wallet shows last block stopped at block 228036 in the client version v1.0.0.0 and we are on block 25355 as I write this post! So was there a fork?

There has been a fork of sorts, but because I rebuilt the chain with custom software no client update is needed to access it. Stalled chain (PoS only) = 228036 Revived chain (PoW + PoS) = 253284 New clients syncing seem happy to choose the revived chain, but existing clients do not appear to be switching to the better chain, even though it has higher trust.

I've added these to the cloudcoin.conf but my client still shows 0 connections. I haven't opened the client since around December. For the people connecting, how are you doing so

Did that, deleted everything except wallet.dat
I'm editing cloudcoin.conf in the install folder, the same one with cloudcoin-qt.exe.
I run cloudcoin-qt.exe...0 active connections to network
I check appdata, all the files are back but they are mostly 0kb, empty.
Bleh
EDIT - solved - I put config file in appdata folder where wallet.dat is.

Update: I have finally been able to successfully compile cloudcoin-qt.exe.
Will be doing some basic bug fixes and changes to improve initial connectivity (eg adding DNS seeds), then testing for a couple more days.
For now, the current version still works, so long as you're on the correct chain (currently 270503 blocks)
I will start a new thread once the new version is ready.

CDC v1.1 update is progressing well, just doing some final testing of some extra code I added to make sure that the client doesn't accept and follow blocks from the wrong chain. I'm trying to minimise the issues that have plagued other recent relaunches, such as multiple private forks, and people having to download an archive of the blockchain to get their clients to properly sync. I expect to release within 24 hours.

Is this Really CDC, not to say V2, how the V1.1?CDC v1.1 is an incremental update that I have released, which has some bug fixes and additional code to assist with syncing. CDC v1.2, which I will be releasing shortly, will have a fixed version of OpenSSL. CDC v2.0 was promised by the original dev months ago (look at the date of the first post in this thread) but never eventuated. I don't hold much hope of it ever appearing. So it goes... CDC v1.0 - original client CDC v1.1 - fixed client CDC v1.2 - fixed client + fixed OpenSSL CDC v2.0 - doesn't exist
