Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

this. Is. AWESOME, just what I needed alongside my coffee. XPM has my vote for long term, although I'm not personally in it for financial gain, but simply because they've done something to deserve it. the amount of power used in the United States to mine each day is upwards of 80k. For useless work outside of getting coin. I'm prefer my power going to some other greater good besides finding block chains. t also makes me think we need to get on some wind power or solar power or something, cuz jeez that's a lot o money over a year in mostly wasted energy. (Unless you're heating your house with a rig )

Updated with link to Dirk Augustin's Cunningham Chain World Records list where primecoin is cleaning up. Anyone know where to find the records list for twin chain?

Thanks. Someone needs to contact the record keeper and inform them about primecoin.

Number of total coins (seen in OP) Block solve time Reward per block Does the reward drop after XX blocks?
No max coins, though the amount of coins awarded slowly decrease with difficulty increases. At some point though unless ASICs for primecoin are developed, existing processors will take a long time to solve the increasingly difficult prime chains. Block solve time is variable, not fixed. Depends on when someone solves the current block. The block refresh time though is 1 minute so transmissions move quickly. Currently it is about 12 XPM, it is slowly decreasing. It drops by a fractional amount constantly. Not sure of the equation, I think it is based though on k (chain length)

What happened the the GPU miner for xpm by mltrt? It looks like the thread was deleted. Did it turn out to be a scam/no product?

That is a very good question - he did collect about 60 BTC of donations towards it. I would be surprised if he scammer people though since he a well known user here. Though personally, I am sorta happy this has remained a CPU only coin.

Me too. I'd rather keep making some XPM on my cpu for a while before it goes GPU-mainstream. Although I'm already noticing my mining resutls are dropping considerably.
