ICOs have a long way to go yet, but they need to become more mature, and that takes some time. There were a lot of scammy ICOs last year, so tighter regulations are required to make sure that scammers can't run away with people's money. But ICOs most likely will continue to thrive in 2018.

I suppose that ICOs in 2018 will move to a new level. The amount of project will be reduced, but the quality should be improved for sure. Moreover I guess that in 2018 ETH will share the place of the top ICO platform with NEM, NEO and other projects.

I agree to this, I don't think ICO's will die and just vanished or become obsolete if ever there will be changes that would more likely helps it to adapt, it is true that the amount of the projects may be reduced but it is much better if the quality of these project are improved thus giving more credibilities to ICO.

Most likely, ICO will undergo regulation and thereby fraudsters will leave the market. Entirely ICO will not be banned. Just them will be an order of magnitude smaller.

Disclaimer: The text below is a personal opinion of the author. If you have a different opinion, please share it

ICO causes more and more distrust - thanks to the scammers. At this point, companies that produce and sell tokens are more focused on the product. The product is being developed and improved. And all before the token sale.

The fact is: those companies that enter the token market with a readymade product are more trustworthy. Now, few people are interested in a company that launches ICO just to make a name and earn a lot of money.

ICO is a serious campaign. It requires great resources and professionalism.

There are many companies on this path. Recently, Pavel Durov announced the creation of a light wallet and the release of the Gram token on the Telegram platform. Here is another example - KickCity, a company that has existed for two years. KickCity is engaged in the development of the event industry and issues a KCY token for further expansion of the company.

I think it will not...

I hope ICO will not die as this thread mean. Hope 2018 project maker do it seriously, or investors will get away from this project
I also think it will not die in 2018 but more laws are needed to ensure the safety of investors. In 2017 there are too many ICOs, most of them do not meet the target.

I agree with your opinion...

Most of the ICOs are scams, but if the ICOs stopped there wont be any improvements in the alts which will cause the cryptocurrencies grows slower.

I don't think ico will die in 2018, ICO's mission is fix weaknesses of first generation altcoin like faster transfer or cheaper fees. Or ICO will creat a appliacation for social. ICO is a revolution to developing, so i will never die. My opinion

ICO will not die, but in some countries it will be regulated. Also, ICO will become smarter and more professional, there will be less shitICO, first of all it depends on investors.

It will not die and I know for sure that it will move to a higher level in 2018 because it's gaining more and more participants and ICOs are becoming more promising.

I think not, ICO will still be there in 2018, ICO will not just die, maybe there will be some changes in the ICO that will take place, where each company that conducts ICO will provide new things of quality and safe for potential investors who will join their company.
we will still always need ICO, because with the ICO we can know about the investment detail they offer, so we as potential investors have a strong enough basis and a good choice to invest in it.

Those startups have raised expectations that are sky high.
I doubt their revenue will all be able to match their tokens' multi billion market caps.

Very interesting. I anticipate increased regulation, but not an outright death. Evolution I guess.

I only see more companies being added and a sight of continued growth for those coming into question.

It's almost to the time where other coins become rivals to each other, surpassing heights and lengthen expectations over all categories. Nonetheless, bringing the highest rated Bitcoin companies together will boost performance for them as well as end users who end up staying at established platforms.

It needs to, sucking up all the money

There are still good ICO to begin with, but really some of  them are really sucking up all the money of the investors. That's why China totally banned them. Just sad though for those legit and trusted ICO that lost traction because of the scammers.

It will not die and I know for sure that it will move to a higher level in 2018 because it's gaining more and more participants and ICOs are becoming more promising.

Fortunately, though ICO's will continue its march in 2018 because its now a billion dollar industry. How can someone stop it? But we have to be careful as to what ICO are we going to invest though, and just used our better judgement and common sense. This community has a lot of scam busters, but not all can be track in the beginning, its still our responsibility to spot them so that we will not be scam.

There is no doubt that ICOs will evolve and morph in the future. We may even see companies built for helping setting up ICOs. Some new standards may appear etc. But I have no doubt that the ICOs are here is to stay. We will see an acceleration over time and one day it will become the standard to start a digital business.

ICO will not die in 2018. There are scammers, but there are also good investiments. For many of 2017’s ICO launches, hype has been a key factor. One common fundraising method is touting names of rockstar industry advisors, who can lend a sense of legitimacy to a particular coin offering.
In 2018 some coin offerings are solid, before investing you must always inquire about the ico.

I think that in the future the ico projects are not going anywhere. It is not just fashion but a new convenient form of financing of various projects .
