To calculate the difficulty level, the sum of work necessary for creating the last 720 blocks is divided by the time it took to carry out work. The block size can adjust accordingly to the demand, while its exponential growth is under control at the same time.

1) Yes, you can use the CryptoNight algorithm. CryptoNote is the name of the coin techonlogy while CryptoNight is the name of the hashing algorithm which it uses.

2) Yes, CPUs are used when you mine with the wallet, the miner or some third party miners.

That's because the maturity depth needs to be 100. Means there has to be 100 blocks processed before the payment arrives to pay you and other miners out. I'll put some hashing power towards it to help you get it faster.

Where is all the Network Hashing power coming from?  I just looked through all the pools I could find and I only see about 10% of the Network Hashing power (135KH total vs about 16KH from pools)... guess solo guys are crushing it....?

I have a channel where Ive put out a few videos on mining and I was all geared up to do one for this coin... but MAN the 5 coin reward thing is just a killer without knowing what the price may be...

Being that stocks exchange has only traded at like 9cents each and I only have the ability to get like 2ISH a day... I sadly have to keep looking for something better.   If the reward was different, I'd probably be singing your praises with all I had in me... even if the price isnt great, knowing that you can get a few coins just feels better than 1 or 2 a day.

Is everything OK with Bitcoinote network. pool.bitcoinote.org send the transactions, but no coins on wallet. Since today everything work perfect, and nothing was changed in setup.

- I'm mining bitcoinote since yesterday on official mining pool using the address I got from the windows wallet

My problem is that the stats on the pool is showing the amount of btcn paid, but the wallet is showing 0 balance.

Usually to successfully mine XVG blocks, every "next" block must be of a different algo.. so for example scrypt,then x17, then lyra etc.

Due to several bugs in the XVG code, you can exploit this feature by mining blocks with a spoofed timestamp. When you submit a mined block (as a malicious miner or pool) you simply
set a false timestamp to this block one hour ago and XVG will then "think" the last block mined on that algo was one hour ago.. Your next block, the subsequent block
will then have the correct time.. And since it's already an hour ago (at least that is what the network thinks) it will allow this block to be added to the main chain as well.

This is what is going on since about 06:00 UTC of 04.04.2018: ......

As you can see in the text above, those blocks are all subsequent, so one miner gets them all and you see there's 90 min difference between all the blocks, thats one bug the miner is
exploiting. You also see the correct time is the latter time.. so the last block ended on 13:51:06 and the block before was 12:17:47 and the block with the correct time before that one
was at 13:51:05 .. That means the hacker is mining one block per second !

The vergeDEV @ Discord says "everything is okay - there's nothing to fix"..

Since about 99% blocks by legit pools are rejected - and the dev team is not able to understand this problem, i'm closing and removing all VERGE pools from suprnova...."

It will ensure the investors to know well your ICO. But basically, it is a good concept presenting the decentralized promissory note for the bitcoin. Great timing, mezonexuca. Also, it's nice to see someone who shares my point of view on how grossly mismanaged this (theoretically decent) coin is.

The post timestamps are too close together for this to have been posted in response to your post though (unless they prepared the post and had it on waiting). I think they either pushed the fork before having a formal announcement (which I understand, since it's time critical) or there's some bureaucratic hangup behind the scenes that we don't know about.

I too wish there were more technical details about the nature of this hard fork. We already know the difficulty algorithm is lwma, but the "emergency difficulty recovery feature" looks like a spontaneous reaction to the recent network issues. It might have been developed specifically for this case.

We wanted to let you know that the problem that caused the network to get stuck has been resolved! It was a different issue and not related to the problem solved already in the hard fork - the hard fork update proved to work well.

Pool owners should update their software to ensure mining will continue to work well on their pools.

Wallet users should also update their software. This will prevent the wallet optimization feature from breaking and blocking parts of their balance for a few hours.

HOW TO CREATE A BTCN WALLET:

1. Download the 1.2.1 wallet version (Windows or Linux) from GitHub: https://github.com/Bitcoinote/Bitcoinote-GUI-Wallet/releases

2. Open the downloaded file (with BTCN icon). When wallet opens, press on the button 'Create wallet'.

3. Give it a name and click Save (make sure you know in which folder.)





4. Your new wallet should open. Make sure you set a password to protect your coins. And then you're ready to go!

HARD FORK AT BLOCK 178500 (around 20th September 2018)

We are reaching out to notify you about the upcoming changes in the algorithms that will require your attention and ACTION!

WHAT IS A HARD FORK?
A very nice explanation of the concept of a hard fork in general can be found HERE.

In short, it means that the coin software has been modified in a way that it produces data (blocks) which the existing software will see as invalid, because we “changed a rule”, so the existing software would continue playing according to the old rules and will therefore disagree with what the new version would do. This “rule change” is scheduled at a certain point in time (actually: block height). The new software will know about that and continue playing by the old rules until that point and then switch to the new rules.

Therefore, it is very important that all users of the coin have updated their software before that date, because after that date (block 178500), the network will no longer support the old versions because the rules will have changed.

People not upgrading until that date will experience problems because they will either not be able to synchronize with the network anymore or will start living in a “bubble” of other people with the old version, separated from the main network, meaning that any coins they spend or receive will not be accepted by the majority of the others.

WHAT WILL CHANGE WITH THE HARD FORK?
1) MINING (PoW) ALGORITHM - The previous algorithm was the original “CryptoNight” (in variant 0). The new algorithm is “CryptoNight Lite V1” (in some places also known as “CryptoNight Lite V7”). This brings two benefits:

• The “Lite” version of CryptoNight has lower hardware requirements, allowing easier access to mining on mobile and IoT devices (using the Linux miner).
  
• The “variant 1” is a modification of the original algorithm which none of the known ASICs are compatible with. This makes BitcoiNote stay ASIC-resistant.

2) ADJUSTMENT OF MAXIMUM BLOCK SIZE AND REWARD PENALTY ALGORITHM - We previously enlarged the so-called “full reward zone” for blocks, i.e. the maximum size of blocks for which miners will not get a reward penalty. This was done to allow larger transactions to be submitted, as we saw demand for this. However, because there is another dynamic in this picture, which is the slowly growing maximum cumulative size, we reached a situation where some very large transactions were accepted but then never included in a block at all (until they expired), leading to frustration with users. We now adjusted the algorithm so that larger blocks can be submitted (at the moment up to ~180,000 bytes), but also, too-large transactions will be rejected upfront to prevent the “stuck transactions” phenomenon.

WHO IS AFFECTED BY THIS AND HOW?
Everybody. All the GUI wallets will have to be updated. UPDATE YOUR WALLET NOW!

Users using the Core software or other CLI tools like the “simplewallet” utility (for example exchanges) will have to update these as well. UPDATE CORE!

Furthermore, pool owners will additionally have to update the “node-multihashing” and “node-cryptonote-utils” libraries to modified versions which we are now providing. UPDATE NODE-MULTIHASHING and NODE-CRYPTONOTE-UTILS!

HOW DO I UPDATE MY WALLET?
Simply download the new version of the wallet and use it instead of the old one. Your coins will be taken over to the new version. You should not use the old version afterwards anymore, it’s best to delete it once you verified that the new version works for you.

HOW WILL MINING CHANGE?
i) If you are using the GUI wallet for mining, you just need to update it to our latest version.

ii) If you are using a third party tool, you need to check if it supports the algorithm “CryptoNight Lite V1” (sometimes called V7 instead of V1) and use the new algorithm after block 178500. For “xmr-stak-miner” for example, you can select algorithm “cryptonight_lite_v7”.

iii) If you are using an ASIC, you are out of luck, and that was precisely our goal.

iv) You also need to check if the pool that you are using is ready for the hard fork. If you are unsure, you can use our own pool (pool.bitcoinote.org).

Dear BitcoiNote community!

As you must've noticed by now, the new rules introduced by admins of the forum have demoted many accounts to Newbie accounts. Unfortunately, our account has been reduced to a Newbie rank as well  .
Therefore from now on we're not able to post links or pics in our posts. The situation will change if we receive any merit, that however, doesn't really depend on us. We looked into the copper membership - that doesn't make up for all the lost functionalities (especially links).

To make it clear, BitcoiNote team fully support anything that contributes to improving the quality of the forum and helps fight spam. However, through this forum and our ANN thread we have been communicating with our community, providing links, placing photos etc - now we're not able to do that anymore.

Obviously, we have other social media channels to share info but we have always treated Bitcointalk forum as one of the most important ones, as the one to give the fullest information on all changes and updates regarding our coin. We have treated this way of sharing information as natural and didn't expect (or ask) for any merit. Having received none, we went from Jr. Member to Newbie, despite almost 9 months of activity and 249 posts.

We haven't spammed or scammed, yet now, we will have to find a new way to communicate updates effectively with our Bitcointalk community.

We'll keep on working on our Bitcointalk account and hopefully soon we'll be able to make use of the full functionality of the account.

Secondly, the HARD FORK has been successful at block 178500! 

You may notice a that the algorithm is still adjusting after the hashrate drop (ASICs cut off). Block time creation is longer than usual but this is a normal, expected thing and the algorithm will adjust. No sweat!

meh monero price is high coz its controlled by nobody. No stud duck is around that has the authority to influence distribution of coins. However retarded it may seem, 90 percent of cryptos which are not decentralized enough to reflect on core philosophical principles of the blockchain, they are all broken by design.
