Definitely has the possibility but with the number of other cryptocurrencies in the market as well, it may be highly unlikely by this year. Just to give you an example, last January 2017 the price of 1 bitcoin was around ~$1,000 and by the end of the year it closed to around $14,000-$15,000. That is a 1500% increase on its price in a span of a year! The question is, will that also happen by 2018?
A lot of people are speculating that the prices would reach around $35,000 by the end of 2018 but I think that it may only reach around $30,000 due to a number of factors in the market, like government interventions, pump and dump schemes by whales, county prohibitions, or even shift of interests. But there is definitely that possibility of its price exceeding $40,000 depending on the situation.

Yes, I think it could reach more than that. There are some speculations that the price will go up to 20K in the 1st quarter of the year. And 40K is not far enough to achieve.

One need not to be optimistic about because if your prediction didn't come to pass so many people who has invested as a result of your prediction will be misled and probably loose huge amount of money as a result one speculation. I don't think you get your information right because ethereum market value far above $500 even as at the time you open this thread.

Just a very small advice, do not invest over the information that someone in a forum is giving you, you do not know why the person that is giving you an advice is doing it, maybe that person has an interest that a particular coin does well and it is trying to attract investors or maybe he has just bad intentions and wants to see people lose their money, so before investing always verify all the information you receive before making any choice.

Not sure of $40000, but it'll reach above $25000 at the earliest. Because recently an cryptocurrency enthusiast to an channel interview gave a talk in which he mentioned $50000 might be reached shortly as little by little situations were getting stable. Taking this into consideration I believe at least half the value of his prediction will be attained shortly.

The problem here is the question is CAN?   yes of course Bitcoin can reach 40,000 however I dont think 11 or 12 months is really long enough to be speculating on what is more likely a long term cycle event.

The last price obective I heard from someone speculating on the tail end to moves since the Mt.Gox sell off was a rough estimate of 15,000 to 25,000.        Think of it like a high tide and low tide, free markets follow natural patterns in that way.

The tide never rolls one way forever.      So 40,000 is possible but unlikely this year I think.    I will post the reason why I think 40k is possible not impossible and that is the decline of the dollar.  

Every price is a combination or fraction of two factors.   So bitcoin relates to dollar and dollar is in decline for decades now, hence 40k is possible

Yeah, no one can tell us if that can happen by the end of 2018 and for me, it is too early to discuss end of 2018 and bitcoin will reach $40k? As what we can see, bitcoin price is continue to fall and we even don't know if bitcoin price can still rise up again or maybe no chance for it again.

Why not we go for predicting on what bitcoin prices will be having by end of this year. Because, speculations are based on what are the development happening around bitcoin ecosystem hence I'm not seeing any big trouble on speculating this year end bitcoin prices. I am expecting more $40k levels by end of this year as lots of new investors are rushing in to bitcoin ecosystem which will be helping bitcoin prices to reach any new peak levels based on these I am expecting bitcoin prices to reach at least $100k levels by end of this year.

Bitcoin will never have these low rates. Bitcoin will become an alternative to offshore. People will anonymously store your bitcoin lot of money. They never massively sell their coins. They are not interested in the price drop bitcoin. This means that a large number of coins will always be on hold. The demand will always be there. So the price will only grow.

Predictions and speculations makes a strong impact to push Bitcoin to a new ATH, because it will attract investors to put more money on btc. Although big players can somehow manipulate the price of btc, I dont know, not really sure but it really seems like they are involved with every movement of the price.

No one knows, but i think it is posible if the negative issues have done. If those critics against bitcoin currency will cease to disperse the negative issues it might be sure to recover the bitcoin price at the sink and could be reach at $40,000 or more than that.

I'm not sure about this. Last year, I actually thought that this thing has a high probabiloty to happen but seeing how Bitcoin is struggling due to the continuous dumps, I think it won't be able to reach 30000 USD before this year end. I do not see the 40K. Not in 2018, and not in 2019.
I think that the people won't forget the drop from 20K for a long time.
So every time the price will increase a little, there will be many who will sell in order to save their profit.
The strong believe that bitcoin can fly is not there at the moment. And it will take time until people start believing again.

Although it is possible knwing that bitcoin spiked its price by the end of the year, it could also happen by the end of 2018 that bitcoins price could go up to $40k but let's not expect anything yet. The year has just started and we don't know how the market runs in the next couple of months so it is better to not really expect anything yet so you won't get emotional and then out of frustration you'll withdraw your coins on loss which is mostly happening to some newbies.

It seems to me you are mostly correct, the previous year was an impressive year when we see the growth but it is not very smart to think every year is going to be the same, this year most likely will be a year of transition in which not much happens and even where the price goes down but we must not panic this bear market cannot last forever and the price will go up once again.

This is the kind of news those who panic sell their tokens during the crisis and i do hope it will be imprinted on their brains that bitcoin will never cease to rise and it will be a wakeup call for them to HODL their bitcoin next time.
