I ordered an 82 BTC withdrawal 4 days ago and it never arrived.  Those bastards at MtGox have been most uncooperative despite that I was able to show them the blockchain has no record of any 82 BTC transaction to my address.  I have repeatedly asked them for proof of this transfer but they won't (can't?) and still haven't provided me with the transaction ID.  They even insinuated that I had an address that couldn't receive bitcoins!!  Idiots!  So I proved to them it could by sending a small amount of BTC from my MtGox account to the very same address, which showed up in the blockchain immediately.  The 82 BTC withdrawal shows on my MtGox transaction history as being paid so I think they are trusting their own fucked up system more than the truth of the blockchain.  I believe the transaction may have gone to a bad fork and has since been obliterated.  Help desk (an oxymoron) keeps delaying and delaying, which I'm sure is meant to buy time for their phantom transaction to surface.

Does anybody know what is the absolute longest amount of time that seems reasonable to consider a transaction lost?

You should be able to get this resolved via the Blockchain - Mt.Gox are fairly reasonable folks.. unless they have recently changed for the worst.

I've been working with them for 4 days and they just won't send me the bitcoins.  I understand they need to figure out what happened, but they're unjustifiably holding my money hostage in the meantime, and they won't give me any indication how long it will be.  Losing my mind!!

Wow! That truly sucks! My suggestion: don't use Mt.Gox. Of course that does not help those of you who are waiting for your BTC.

Time to dethrone MagicalTux.

There would be a delay sometimes.
But it won't take for days.

You may loss your BTC for some special reasons.  Undecided

Does it strike anyone else as odd, that Mt.Gox does not list the block chain txid for withdrawals?

That one thing would likely put this whole issue to bed.

Recently changed for the worse?  They've had terrible service for a long time now.

Actually, they do show the Bitcoin transaction ID on the 'withdraw bitcoins' page immediately after you make the withdrawal.  Unfortunately I just assumed that they would keep that information available for me and I didn't bother to record it; big mistake.  So, subsequent to their losing my 82 bitcoins, I made another withdrawal from them, this time noting the Bitcoin transaction ID and then used that ID to find the transaction in the blockchain, and it found it immediately, essentially proving that they didn't send me the first transaction.  When pressed for the Bitcoin transaction ID for the missing 82 bitcoins, they sent me some GD MtGox internal reference number that is meaningless outside of MtGox.

If it was sent you can find the transaction id by searching for the receiving address

So they don't save the transaction ID on their databases?
That doesn't make any sense.

Can you show us your communications with the support? Thanks.

My anger against what is wrong in the Bitcoin community is productive:

It wasn't sent; simple as that really.  82BTC transaction is never going to take 4 days, even with 0 fee.  And at least would show as unconfirmed anyway.

If there was a TXID presented on the confirm screen, I doubt they made it up.  It was probably a malformed transaction and as such never got picked up by any nodes.  Who knows how... Maybe a it was a really big TX but didn't pay fees (thought I doubt that would make it die on the vine).  If you had the TXID you could show them they screwed up and ask them to resend.

So best case:
1) They don't record / track TXIDs.
2) They are ocationally making bad TXIDs but since they don't record them, they never know when this happens.

Worst case:
1) Mt. Gox has a steal_now(seed) routine in their payment processor.  They randomly steal every Nth withdrawal.

My advice.  If you deal with Mt.Gox.  Print-Screen EVERYTHING.

Hello.

Linda Support 18:33:
Is that correct?

yes

Linda Support 18:35:
We have a recent BTC withdrawal delay and our development team is working on this.

Linda Support 18:35:
I will keep you updated once the issue is resolved.

It gave me a transaction receipt number... is that the MtGox receipt or some Bitcoin receipt

galgitron 18:37:
hello?

Linda Support 18:38:
Yes, it is the transaction reference number of the withdraw you have made.

galgitron 18:39:
Linda, I really really need these bitcoins. When will I get them?

galgitron 18:42:
Is it a security issue?? Is it because I used a different payout address?

Linda Support 18:42:
Please apologize. This is just a temporary issue and we will let you know once the issue is resolved.

15McP3sb1svztdC9WUYJjdaaVRRG9L2jaV is absolutely correct.

You can see that no payment was sent to this address by visiting http://blockchain.info/address/15McP3sb1svztdC9WUYJjdaaVRRG9L2jaV

This address belongs to my wallet on my computer, not an online wallet, but that is irrelevant because you can see above that no payment was sent in the first place. If you did actually send me the bitcoins, then you should have a Bitcoin transaction ID as proof. Please provide me that bitcoin transaction ID

Hello galgitron,

Thank you for your reply and for confirming the details. Looking at all the transaction on blockchain we can only see that address 15McP3sb1svztdC9WUYJjdaaVRRG9L2jaV was able to receive BTC only from some thing like "No Inputs (Newly Generated Coins)" and we do not see that the address 15McP3sb1svztdC9WUYJjdaaVRRG9L2jaV was able to receive any funds from any other BTC address and we have a second thought on why this was not processed.

Could please confirm if your BTC address is completely capable of receiving BTC if the BTC are send through other BTC address.

Look, its very simple, if you sent me my bitcoins, you would have received a bitcoin transaction number to prove it. If you can't locate this transaction, then you didn't send me the bitcoins, which is clearly demonstrated by the current block chain that shows nothing was paid to my account. Who knows, maybe your transaction went to a bad fork and was destroyed, or maybe your system never sent the bitcoins at all. in any case, you still have my bitcoins. If you can find the bitcoin transaction that proves you paid me, then send it to me, otherwise, please send me my bitcoins. I cannot wait any longer, I need my money urgently.

August 01, 2013 13:27

I just sent myself the rest of my money from MtGox successfully to the address. Please review

http://blockchain.info/address/15McP3sb1svztdC9WUYJjdaaVRRG9L2jaV

to see that I have received 0.07661107 BTC from MtGox on 2013-08-01 at 13:08:01. Now you have proof that MtGox is able to send to that address, and you also have proof that you DIDN'T send me my 82 bitcoins 4 DAYS AGO!! PLEASE SEND ME MY BITCOINS!!!

Hey, thanks.

If you need the cash so desperately, why are you buying BTC?

Wow that's so stupid.

Oops, did you remember to contact Satoshi and have him enable your address to receive Bitcoins? lol

And as for those trying to blame them OP "Why do you need your money", it's his money doesn't matter why he needs it.  82BTC wouldn't put me out on the street but I'd still be pissed off if someone had hi-jacked it.  82BTC I would think is significant enough for most people to get a bit irritated if it was missing.

Sorry that Gox is messing you up. Hope it works out soon.

There's more to the story.  I had actually wired MtGox the money on July 9th and expected it to show up immediately, then I was going to convert it to bitcoins and buy some mining equipment and sell a portion of those bitcoins to all my friends and contacts who do not have a MtGox account.  I figured I would have cash again within a few days of the initial wire.  The crushing results were that MtGox didn't even credit my wired funds for over two weeks!, and then this tragedy where they won't acknowledge they didn't send me the bitcoins...  It's nearly a month since I started this whole thing.  I'm really scratching for cash now.

Finally some useful information from MtGox...

Hello galgitron,

We sincerely apologize for the problems caused. Actually we had an issue with the synchronization of the hot wallets with our cold storage(a methodology to prevent the intruders to hack the BTC directly from the server) and the same had been resolved. However we are still having few transactions(hash) failing to enter the block chain. Already we are in the verge of re broadcasting all of the transactions that had an issue and hopefully this is resolved sooner.

A special thanks for confirming the capabilities of your wallet address and it was helpful while we escalated the issue to the development team.

Also be noted that the hash: "a326763ea5294879aa16c32b345d2627705006fee16369851af411f9fecd2854" still is in our MtGox transaction that needs to be broadcast and 100% be assured that your BTC's are not lost.

Once again sorry for the delay and thanks for the kind understanding.

We will speak to you once the coins are purged out.

And.. it's finally over...  Got my money Smiley

Hello galgitron,

We were successfully able to re broadcast the transaction and now it has entered block chain, currently 3 confirmations as i type this email.

https://blockchain.info/address/15McP3sb1svztdC9WUYJjdaaVRRG9L2jaV

Kindly check and let me know once you receive the coins.
Thanks a lot for the patience.

I definitely will not be using mtgox again after this, their customer support is a joke really.

I usually get a pretty quick transfer even without paying the fees, but I'm sure that will change as adoption matures.  Ultimately, no fees would've prevented this disaster...

Faraday, seriously keep on them in the help desk.  Be the squeaky wheel that they just want to get rid of.  Despite my painful experience, I'm fairly convinced that MtGox is motivated to maintain their reputation, and if you can prove their shenanigans (like I did with the blockchain evidence), they'll probably do what they can to correct it and avoid bad publicity.

Sadly, despite all this drama, I think I'm still stuck with MtGox for the short term.  I'm completely offshore and have no interest in utilizing US financial conduits.

Maybe it was a really big TX but didn't pay fees ...

Wow... I called it... Horrifying that Mt.Gox is sending Fee-free TX and just hoping a charitable node will pick it up.  That is really cheap!  I suspect you would have been willing to throw in an extra 0.0001 BTC in order to get your other 81.9999 in and hour instead of a week.  Mt.Gox really deserves some he11 for that.

OK that transcript alone is enough to launch a MtGoxSux site.  Glad you got it worked out man.  Didn't realize that the TXID they give you is a Mt.GoxTXID not a bitcoinTXID.  Scary!

I'd start shopping BitStamp at this point.  I founding it pretty easy to get money in haven't tried getting it out Sad

I'll take the blame for not paying the transaction fees, it's a checkbox that I can select or not during payment.  This wasn't what caused my BTCs to get lost, it was an internal error from MtGox.  I've never paid fees for transactions because it doesn't make much difference in processing time, as evidenced by how quickly my 82 BTCs showed up once they re-attempted to send the transaction.  I imagine once the bitcoin network starts to saturate, this fee will become much more effective, but as it is right now, there's ample bandwidth for free transactions.

I looked at BitStamp and it definitely shows promise, thanks!

This TX qualifies for free relaying. It does not need fees to be relayed by the Satoshi client.

So according to James a whole day of bitcoin transactions is missing? Why am I the only one posting about this if it's true?! Anyway it seems there is not much I can do other than keep waiting.

Also this was the one time I didn't pay transaction fee. (As I didn't need the BTC immediately, thought it might take 24 hours or something. No idea the transaction would end up lost for a week! Pay transaction fee people!)

So, what you tring to say? Only galgitron is affected? Gox suppresses his 82 BTC, intentionally? A bit paranoid for my taste. I am 100% sure that galgitron gets his coins from Gox, some day. It is clear that he is pissed because of this thing. I would be too.

I'm fairly certain it has nothing to do with the transaction fee.  I've made many withdrawals without paying fees and never had a problem.  You seem to be suffering from the same technical glitch that I suffered from about the same time, and I'm sure many others that aren't privy to this forum are also affected.  Keep after them and they should come around.

Gox is implementing capital controls on the flow of funds.  They will be exercising more "errors" and "fraud flagging" as the exchange becomes more and more illiquid.

Gox is implementing capital controls on the flow of funds.  They will be exercising more "errors" and "fraud flagging" as the exchange becomes more and more illiquid.

I was suspicious of this because it was the first large sum that I tried to transfer and it blew up immediately, even though I could still make small transfers.  If this really is true, I can't understand why they just wouldn't volunteer this reasoning as the cause for this non-payment issue, rather than exercise endless delay tactics that just anger and worry their customers.  I would've completely understood the security measures and I even asked them if this was the reason but they just fed me the 'technical glitch' reason, which just further erodes trust.  To me, it doesn't make much sense to make their customers lose confidence in their technology if they are really just exercising caution.

What is your source for this info?

What I don't understand is why you have to get verified to withdrawal BTC.   Huh
anti-money laundering laws I assume.

I don't think so.  Wallet to wallet is simply a transfer, I couldn't see how that would apply with AML.

Yeah, AML is only supposed to be applicable to fiat.

Yeah, AML is only supposed to be applicable to fiat.

US tax laws consider trading bitcoins to be the same as 'bartering', and bartering is still taxable for the fair value cash equivalent.  Person-to-person bartering is not regulated (they expect you to report on your taxes though), but any company that facilitates a bartering exchange has to report all activity, which makes their activity subject to AML.

Foreign companies and even their governments risk US sanctions for not complying, even if not under US jurisdiction.

This makes sense.  Thanks for the link.  Wasn't aware of the IRS side of things.  It's also true as it relates to FinCEN and if I'd thought about it before I posted that, I already knew this.  (frustration post)

Gox exchanges virtual currencies for fiat and vice versa, thus they are an MSB by definition.  Although to my knowledge they haven't actually registered in any of the 50 states so, I suppose just registering with FInCEN is just their declaration that they intend to comply.

Still waiting for 15.9 BTC withdraw from 29th of July.

Any support tickets I create I am told "The problem has already been forwarded to the developers and I will be contacted when they have a response."

Any suggestions as to what I can do from here? Just wait?

Alright!  Good for you man...  I think it's important to post failures/successes in this forum so that others can decide for themselves what level of risk they're willing to take with these exchanges.

I had to complete verification and communication was very good back and forth.  They apparently have a support site you can sign up to and track your tickets.  Wasn't aware of this.  Anyways, verification finished and my account was unblocked.  All is well here.  Sent out BTC, no problem.  My guess is they're intentions are good.  Trying to avoid FinCEN regs pre-Dwolla raid, may have proven to be more than just an account seizure.  I hope they can turn it around.  FWIW, I still plan to use them.
