You gotta fight back the voice that screams inside your brain "Come on, double again and we recover!".
Unfortunately, that's the same voice that cries out for booze or drugs in substance abusers.  The very same voice, the one that wants another hit, another drink, wants to fuck, wants to overeat, whatever.

The question of knowing when to stop is a tricky one.  A lot of addicts first find themselves in the position where they think they should cut down on whatever it is they think has gotten out of control.  Gamblers try to gamble less, or make smaller bets.  I would suggest that if you've reached that point, you've already got a problem and stopping altogether is the only--and ironically the hardest--solution.

This isn't true for 100% of people, but it's certainly true for the majority of them, I'd say.  I've dealt less with gamblers than drug addicts and alcoholics, but your brain sees all of it as intense pleasure and craves whatever it is that's your drug/behavior of choice.  If you've realized you have a problem with gambling, I would strongly suggest quitting if you're able.  Also, I'd recommend NOT hanging out here in the gambling discussion section, or at casinos, or in any place that will cause you to want to gamble.

The memories you formed from all the good times gambling are burned into your brain like nothing else.  Everything you associate with gambling has the potential to trigger you to gamble again--just like drugs.  People, places, things as they say in recovery.  There are a lot of triggers you probably don't even realize.

I do stop playing in a certain day for two reasons.
1) if I know that I already won a quite big or a big price or money that I know it is enough to get back my losses today and losess before. It something like a goal but I do not set a price or money to get. You already know in yourself if it ia big, enough, or not.
2) if I lose too much. We may not bet all pr everything that we have. Gambling is not always a good strategy. Sometimes luck is what we only need.

But for someone who is addict in gambling, or for someone greedy, he/she do not know and do not think about this kind of thing. He/she is unstoppable.

Lets you you lost $1,000 yesterday and today you win $500. So you wont stop because today's winning is not enough to recover what you lost yesterday? The word "enough", you will miss it once you are in winning time as your mind may say "again, it is my lucky day and I'll win more".

2) if I lose too much. We may not bet all pr everything that we have. Gambling is not always a good strategy. Sometimes luck is what we only need.

Why you need to lose too much to stop? Too much means that the amount is much more higher than your own limit. So it is a wrong mindset, you should stop before you lose too much. Stick on your own limit, dont wait till you reach the words "too much".

Chasing losses is very dangerous and can blow up your bankroll in no time. It's very easy to get carried away with reckless gambling which can multiply the initial loss manyfold or even destroy your entire bankroll without you even noticing it as you are too busy trying to recover that lost $100... Been there and seen that many times. Bankroll management and damage control are of utmost importance as well as suppressing one's emotions.

In gambling we must be smart in controlling emotions, if we lose a lot of money, that is the right time to stop. We need entertainment and can gamble again on another day.

The best way to stay in control is to never violate our own rules that we have planned. Because, once we are caught in a bad situation, losing too much money, our emotions will be difficult to control.

Hard to control yourself the main problem for most gamblers, before we start to gambling we need to use money that we can afford to lose to prevent bad emotional in the future. Try to promise to yourself and set the time when you need to stop after reaching the target or losing the minimum target.

You can't exactly say it's time to stop when you don't undergo more failures with your bets, and that money you're using has gone so bad when it happens. You should be able to determine the serious aspects of gambling so that you'll be able to gain enough knowledge. The best ways to do it is to stop when you see the gameplay was failing, and the current scenario still hinder your bets towards the winning piece of gambling games.

If you have a high tendency to not stop until busting, then I came across these tips which do help:

  • Don't put all your available bankroll directly in the game (in case you're using deposits). Leave always at least half outside as a security measure if you go bust.
  • One must stop after reaching a certain goal, The goal should be predetermined and shouldn't be changed during the play.
  • If you're doing really good, withdraw part of your earnings (if you can, ofc) to avoid losing it all in one go.

Having a big bankroll can make you feel falsely safe in that "oh I'll just keep increasing my bet until I win" but alas, the 30 reds in a row do exist, and will come. Do not let them take it all.

The goal you make should be realistic and firm, Don't change it or else be prepared to face bad consequences.

You gotta fight back the voice that screams inside your brain "Come on, double again and we recover!".

You have a good advice, but you can't stop people for what makes them happy. When a gambler decide to put their money on the line, they usually do it without any hesitation. So advising them to stop when they feel like lossing it all is pointless unless the gambler himself is determined to stop.

That is right. If gamblers became desperate, they are close to being unstoppable unless they don't have the money to continue. One of the gamblers said to me that they'd rather keep losing than just stop hoping.

I can't blame these gamblers to continue on betting their money but sometimes, it escalate to the point that they need to sell some items or do something bad just to earn money and go back to gambling. If that happens to me, I will be having a lot of restless nights can't stop thinking what am I doing with my life and my money. I am the person that thinks what am I doing and my conscience is always my acquaintance.

Yeah it's good if before you start gambling you have to set how much money you will use to gamble and that amount must match your ability to afford that losses. sometimes getting out of control can also make it difficult for you to stop, so you have to control yourself well..

Yeah, it is always better to have a stipulated rule on ground and try as much as possible to stick with it. One of the rules is never to gamble more than what you cannot afford to lose since you will end up losing it anyway. With that kind of mindset towards gambling that everything is just simply luck, but you are exposed to huge risk of losing more than winning will make you accept your fate when you eventually lose and know when to halt the activity.

I always start with a certain set amount and play until either thats gone or play until I am bored. For example if I start the game with 50$ to gamble and I end up finishing all of that before I got bored than I stop nevertheless, not try to recoup that at all. Usually I play like something smaller than 10 cents or so each bet so whenever I lose my money I only lose a small fraction of it and it takes a lot of time to lose all of it at which time I get bored anyway.

I don't know why people have hard time stopping. I think its not stopping thats the problem, if you run out of money you will stop no matter what.
The harder part is not starting, if you feel like you are not cut for gambling and you are gonna have hard time stopping than you should not even start. That not starting for wrong people is the true issue, they don't know what type of people they are and they gamble and fail to stop at the correct time. Learn to not start whenever you want before learning how to stop.

Thats right dude, people usually just start without knowing how to stop the game. there may be some players who allocate special funds so that it can stop them playing if the funds run out, but if you play emotionally you might use your main wallet to gamble again, so you should know how to stop using your own abilities dude!

Curiosity kills the cat that is what they say. The only thing that a person could do wrong is to start gambling because of others people influence, because he heard in the news that a certain person have won a big amount of fiat in gambling so he decided to give it a shot, believing he could also win something big like that. Being positive about things in life is not bad, but we have to make exceptions, and gambling is one of the things we shouldn't even try.

Gambling is so gamble, meaning you are risking something to get something, and that is money, you are risking money to get more money. The chances of winning in gambling depends on what game you are playing, for example you are playing lottery which the chances of winning is 1 out of 175 million.

Usually when either I am really bored or I have no money left, I of course don't put all of my money into it, I just put a limit for myself and deposit that amount (usually 50 dollars) and I gamble accordingly, sometimes even though rarely I stop because I have to sleep but that doesn't happen that frequently because I do not gamble at night when I have to sleep, it takes away the whole purpose of gambling, I gamble for fun not to make money and if I am sleep I won't be capable of focusing on the fun part of gambling and just click buttons with half dead brain.
I might as well use the "auto bet" option after that. So most of the time its either I got bored or I spent my daily limit.

A gambler should stop when he/she has gambled as much as he/she can afford to lose.

Well, kind of. You don't know when to stop. That's why you should have an amount in mind before you start playing.
There is no way you can rule out emotions for those who simply are gambling because they want to make shit loads of money. Once the reality of gambling kicks in, they i9mmediately start making bad decisions, end up exposing themselves to higher risk until they lose everything simply because they hoped they could end up winning hugely if they just could just continue.
You know when to stop if you are in control and know you really do not have anything much to gain from it anyway and you are ok with losing the little you want to gamble with.

In our country, when you are gambling, you are already putting your family and loved ones in shame. It is not that gambling is bad but the effects of it and the people saying about that certain people will really ruin them. A lotof people in our place is crawling with a lot of gossip makers that is not really true, whether you gamble or not and they find something interesting or will be something that may degrade you, they will be attacking you.

As soon as you can’t risk to lose the money you are betting with.
Whilst recreational activities (hobbies and whatnot) are important, there are other things that take a clear precedence. The number one rule in gambling is don’t gamble more than you’re willing to lose. Remember the bills/payments you have lined up, the dependents you have and the consequences of losing the bet you’re about to place.
Be aware. Don’t let it dictate your life and always stay in control.

but some of them can't control themselves no matter what their financial status is. making yourself busy is a good way to not get distracted by your gambling habits. people tend to ignore their current situation just to feed their gambling habits they will most likely ignore their bills because they can just pay for it if they win and guess what happen they will most likely lose. agreed people should seek help if they cant control themselves.

I know its been repeated constantly but don't gamble what your not willing to lose.  Keep a portion of your funds for your gambling budget and use the rest for your necessities.  Some people like to spend their extra money on alcohol, concerts, clothes, but I prefer to use my extra money on gambling since I have a fun time doing it.  I allow myself a gambling budget and I don't go over that limit so I don't have trouble with not stopping.

I also had that kind of 'method' to at least not put myself in a difficult situations. I already gain experienced as a gambler so I always put forth everything on a budget. Of course gambling budget in not on top of my priority list, but if everything sums up and there's some extra money to burn then I allot a small portion for my weekly gambling habits. Range from .015BTC-.035BTC. So if I won then more gambling in the coming days but it I got burned, then wait for a week or two and see how the budget goes.

That first point you raised is actually the reason why a lot of people ended up finding them gambling and just wish if only they could just have the same luck as that caliber of person you mentioned, while forgetting that among 100, there can only be 1 winner, with the rest 99 wallowing in self-pity.

As long as they understand they are risking something and can control their emotions and that urge, I believe even when they start hearing some voices to just try it one last time, they will discard it.
