I think the best option is to buy both of them to reduce the risks. But in the long run, I believe Bitcoin may give better profit so you can consider investing more in bitcoins. This is just based on thinking so you need to think and make a decision which one you want to invest more.

Buy BTC/ETH/LTC using USD, then transfer the funds over an exchange like Binance[1] or Bittrex[2]. Then you can trade for other trading pairs.

Not complete newbie. Have a coinbase account but gdax still has yet to approve me been a couple weeks sent all docs multiple times and no response from the support. Been using binance and seems to be a pretty good platform to trade with, but just recently ive been looking into expanding my portfolio and spreading my coinage to maximize my options and potentially maximize gains.

For me invest that you can afford to lose, there are many great coin in crypto currency, there are some coin has small value it can gives you good amount of profit.

I wonder did he buy bitcoin yesterday before the new year? because if he buys bitcoin yesterday, I think today he can make nice profits. today, I see bitcoin price increase and if he can get bitcoin at the low price, I am sure that now he can have a smile to see his profit. Just buy bitcoins when the price is low,no matter of before or after new year.You can use coinbase exchange for buying bitcoins and litecoins,it is one of the most popular exchange.But if you want to store your bitcoins for longer time better to store in a wallet like electrum and your coins will be safe forever but keep your private keep safer to access your bitcoins later.

You should purchase more bitcoin before new year, but after new year is ok ( fine ). Basically, you can replace your money in any time you want, depend your strategy and money management. No one will stop you, that's your money your call. Try to find buy/ sell area depend your strategy, so you can decide what time to open position. New year only moment, nothing special with that.

The price of bitcoin arond this time has been stagnant and hence good to buy. I am expecting a rise later this month. Litecoin on the other hand if dropping and hence a good time to buy too in case yo have not stocked up when the price was around 50$.

Cheap/Free exchange? dafuq you talking about? No exchange is free. They all cost fees for trades and most accept fiat deposits. However you should check what verification you need to do before venturing into the same.

I think new year or not does not matter when you are going to purchase Bitcoin, Litecoin or any cryptocurrency. If you want to add your investment in Bitcoin or Litecoin it depends on your goal, if you only want to invest for short term profit then it is the best time to buy since the price of Bitcoin drops from $19k to $13k right now but for long term investment there is no need to wait for the price to drop and buy as soon as posible. I can't recommend any exchange that has the cheapest fee because I think that kind of exchange does not exist haha, but you can check what is available in your country or if coinbase supports banks from your country you can try that.

As long as you think that you will profit 5x and above then go buy. Buy cheap sell high, don't you dare you sell it below the price you bought it. Be wise enough to think always and be strong enough to face some troubles especially when the price will go down don't panic and destroy your plans but be patient enough to wait, to hold for your better future and for you to become happy. Hold! Bitcoin price will become more expensive before January ends trust your guts.

Make the most of 2018 as it is  new year with new hopes and new beginning. Invest in altcoins to greater extent if possible in top coins because it is going to see some real rise in coming years. ICO are the best time to buy at the cheap price and holding may some time make you get a many times multiples returns.
