Lets say I want people to be able to buy shares in some sort of decentralized entity. Then when the entity has Bitcoin revenue, I want the entity to distribute the revenue to "shareholders" in proportion to their ownership stake. Whats the best way to do this?

Counterparty would work. You'd have to work out how exactly your counterparty token pays people dividends though. If you're looking to just pay out a different aset then you can have a sub-asset to your counterparty token.

There`s no best way.You will have to pay a programmer to write such script.
The other way is you, or somebody you hire, to do it manually.
What if your entity doesn`t have any profits (revenues-costs).Will you pay dividents to shareholders?
Can you explain us more about your btc business,OP?

If he means decentralized entity then most probably he would really need to be anonymous and as you said the risk on having negative profits will really put him on trouble since he do mention that he do have investors and if results are going on opposite way would compromise things. For security then better to hire someone and do it manually no matter what kind of business he is up to since he didnt mention about on what it is. For now BTC methods on sending those divedends will surely affect you because of the fees we are experiencing now. You can use other altcoins ETH would be the best choice for me, XMR and LTC would be good also.
